The thing about Total Wipeout: It's been done before and it's been done better. Takeshi's castle was more violent (and had more variety in the obstacles), Ninja Warrior was more athletically impressive and 24-hour Tag is quite possibly the purest, most straightforward tribute to the concept of Schadenfreude until someone builds a spaceborne gun orbiting in a sattelite around the earth that on command shoots any chosen person on the planet in the genitals and simultaniously films it.
Sometimes the guest's reactions to the shows make me lose respect for them. That total whipeout crap is shockingly stupid and tedius, and them liking it makes me wonder if maybe they're a lot more stupid than they appear.
@91nzn I thought it was based of ultimate ninja warrior, the set-up is more similar. I prefer unw cause most of them were complete twats but a lot were athletes and repeated competitors who trained and trained and you could actually root for. more suspenseful and dramatic as well as hilarious.
ben millers so right about the restrained britishness of the wipeout contestants. i've seen an episode and they can't seem to cut loose like their american counterparts.
turgid dross. LOL!

Note to self: use the phrase "turgid dross" at least once a week

Holly Walsh looks infinitely comfortable. I'm surprised more people don't sit that way in those chairs.

@RichardForkins Probbably because most people wouldn't fit. Sorry to supply a boring answer.

Oh my god, Gordon Brown doing Total Wipeout would be the best thing since It's a Royal Knockout.

Perfect line for the Dickens bit (concerning that little trollop at the restaurant): "Hard Times indeed!"

Charlie Brooker and David Mitchell should just marry each other. They could raise angry, clever, funny children for future generations.

"Turgid dross"...what a terrific insult! It leads one to consider the even beastlier flaccid dross.Cheers!

Did they actually bleep out the word "fucking" at 4:08, after David Mitchell used "fuck" about a hundred times in Part 1?
graytart 2 years ago 79
@graytart The commentary in that vid was added before the show started :P so they didn't know David was going to go crazy on the fucks :P

@graytart They do have a quota for swearwords, so quite possibly.

I actually think it's funnier that way. ^_^

@graytart Perhaps because it was pre-recorded?
oshadak 1 year ago
@graytart they have a quota, don't they? They can only say a certain number of "fuck" per show. And David used them all in 5 minutes xD
