  • Regardless of the size of the cage, this rat looks very content and busy.

  • I think your rat is brilliant. We put a tissue box in the cage every time we clean it an put in fresh bedding. its so much fun watching them make their bed

  • He buries hes food i love my ratss they always make you laugh even if i cry

  • ok i hate that wen you say that someones cage or aquarium is to small and that its bad they say something like i modidfied i or i have a 20 gallon now or my cage is now a tall as me

  • @radarada1259 This video is 4 years old now. And i did have a modified cage who are you to say otherwise?

  • @MrsJelly i am radarada1259

  • your suposed to have two or more

  • i love how people are like "SMALL CAGE! D:"

when i have two small rats in just a 10 gallon tank , they're sooo happy

and many rat owners i've talked with said its fine

and trust me , my babies need the best , i wouldnt keep them there if they werent happy

  • @bvbkilljoy I agree i dont think the cage is too bad a size (though as they said theyve made a bigger run for it) but you should be careful of putting rats in tanks as even with mesh roofs they dont have enough ventilation and rats have high amounts of ammonia in their pee and are prone to respitory infections - so not the best combo! x

  • Absolutely awesome cage setup. It has lots of stuff to engage. Also the fact that you free range them means they likely get their play and exercise. Always makes me happy to see.

  • Where did you get the cage? is it just a bird cage or what?

  • Not sure why people are saying that is too small of a cage. I read that you've expanded it, but speaking for the one in the video, it doesn't LOOK that small.

  • i must say i am a herp lover. owned many many reptiles. and when i decided to lower my feeding bill by gettin a few rats to breed just to see how it went.. its kinda sad to see how so many people think there gross. i never found them gross or even strange. like a giant hamster if you wish but much smarter. im glad my current snakes eating rodents are only gona be eating pups.my girls i got have so much love to give. n if i had to let the pups grow anymore i thnk id be 2 attached .rats r AMAZING

  • @twiztedjuggalo4lyfe most people would call you mean for feeding pups to snakes, but what you say is true. even professional rat breeders (for pets) never get attached to the babies to due the chance (5-50% depending on the rat) of them not living pass 5 weeks old. its good to know that some snake owners like rats and keep both as pets, even if they are using the females to produce pups. also glad to know you take care of your girls, most snake owners don't even take care of their feeders.

  • @IceTigerStorm yes i am kinda mean. but it is the cycle of life sadly. i keep my rats the way any pet owner should. larg wire cages carefresh exc. even have some of my females litter trained.. i love my ratties. and even tho i do need to feed pups off i still love them and wont breed a girl more then a month or2 after the litter is completly weaned so i know for a fact im not over breeding. love my girls[and my guy] to much i already know if they die theyl have graves. not be lunch :) <3

  • @twiztedjuggalo4lyfe *high five* you are probably the best snake owner i know now, well know over the internet. very few snake owners take care of their rats let alone fall in love with them. hope your little girls, and guys, live long lifes :)

  • @IceTigerStorm lol woot *high five* yea im an animal lover. ive seen some other breeders conditions. i save just as much money as them. but im probly one of the verry few breeders who care about all there animals... and thanks i hope your babies live twice as long ^.^ *fingers crossed for 10yrs!*

  • Rats are the best pet of ALL IMO! I don't know why people persist in criticizing when they don't see the whole set-up. I have lots of individual videos of my rats but I have THREE rats in a big cage that I purchased based on a cage size calculator. You can google "rat cage size" and probably get the calculator.

  • i think hammys r best

  • my rat freddy looks like yours^^

  • Hi! I am fond of pet rats too! I am just giving a gentle advise : make sure that the pieces of paper you give them to play with are not printed papers!! otherwise they can ingest ink which can be dangerous for their little stomach

  • my rat did that

  • My rat does that too, exept she uses it as litter for her toilet area...

  • nice cage--did you make it yourself ?

  • This cage is way to small i feel bad for the rat you shouldnt have got a rat if you were going to treat it this way

  • wait a minute... this cage is small?

  • Cool rats! I have some videos of mine on my channel. I'm working on modding a cage.

  • LOL, I love it when you gave him one on the bottom and he gets all the way up top with it, decides "Wait, that's not right, it goes on the bottom!!!"

  • THAT CAGE IS WAY TO SMALL

  • I really hate seeing animals in small cages it makes me sad....

  • @Leanneldok21 I modified it to have a massive run over my bed :'D

  • @MrsJelly I hope that part over your bed has a solid floor so that nothing falls through...

  • @MrsJelly btw, your original cage wasn't even that small. I have seen many many people keeping rats in cages that were a at least half as small :)

  • @MrsJelly what u mean? it sounds cool,i wanna get a rat but i wanna make sure she has a big cage and this sounds cool

  • @MrsJelly It's sad enough you didn't got a big cage BEFORE you got your rats...

  • @Leanneldok21 There let out everyday and also love the security of there home they dont stand much of a chance in the wild , we give them heaps of love and fun and the best food.

  • @Leanneldok21 thats a good size cage for a rat plz do the research before you criticize people

  • @balkoth667 I have and it doesn't have the miminum requirments. There isnt even enough room for a bed. It needs to be tiple the size in length atleast. Poor thing can't even move. It should have atleast 60L, 60H 50D. That cage is like 20L at most. And you should have atleast 2 rats. If there was 2 they wouldn't even be able to move on the lower floor. And if you notice theres SAWDUST which is a NO for rats. Not saying this to be mean im saying it so the rat has a better life.

  • @Leanneldok21 Hi, 60L*60W*50H is outragouis,(please tell me we're talking inches here). my rats live in a a roughly 26 (24?)W*16D*32H cage, they have plenty of room and it can hold three rats (i have three rats). the cage she has is plenty big enough for 1-2 rats. the only problem i see is that the lower shelfs are bit too low, should be put up a few more inches. Also by the looks of it, that's aspen bedding not saw dust. anyways she built a run so the cage is must better now.

  • @IceTigerStorm My rats are somtimes bored in my cage thats 3 floors and 104 cm in hight. This cage isnt even as long as a DECENT hamster cage. Your reply just says it all. This cage cant even fit a fucking house for it to sleep in. Thats how small it is. It has no toys or anything. NO ROOM! If the cage was big enough surey you could fit toys in it. Erm no you can't thats why theres none in it. Now don't talk to me. I know im right.

  • @Leanneldok21 you just restated what you originally said, and what cage are you even talking about? my cage has plenty of toys and houses in it for them to sleep in, plenty of left over room, my rats love it. the cage in the video, yeah 1-2 rats tops, but she redid it so it's much bigger. and why are you yelling at me? you said 60x60x50, i didn't know if you meant inches or centimeters, now don't get bitchy at me, i wasn't trying to start a fight.

  • @Leanneldok21 oops, sorry ignore my last comment. i checked the rat calculator thing and you were talking about centimeters not inches. i thought you were saying inches not centimeters, i live in the states and since alot of rat people live in places where they us CMs i didn't know for sure. i was trying to start a fight, but yeah 60x60x50cms is a decent size cage. sorry for bothering you wasn't trying to piss you off.

  • @IceTigerStorm Atleast you had the guts to say sorry. So its fine lol.

  • @Leanneldok21 you're simple minded aren't you :)

  • @Leanneldok21 My rat cage is pretty small, but I usually wold let them roam my house :)

  • @Leanneldok21 I really hate seeing people not have any food to eat. Get over it.

  • @Leanneldok21 This cage is not small. at all.

  • @Leanneldok21 if he let him out off is cage its not sad my rats most of time walk in a room

  • I had a Rat before, All she did was clean herself and poop everywhere..... Lol

  • @CatsRcute03 Thought I was the only one clever enough to name my girls Dr. Who companions lol....I've got Amy, Sarah Jane, Tegan, Rose, Peri, Romana, Ace and Nyssa keeping me company(:

  • @CatsRcute03 hahah doctor who fan X] ??

  • is it okay to have 2 male rats in the same cage

    p.s i never had rats

  • @AbbyIsMyWeim

They tend to fight over which ones is the 'leader' much like other animals

  • @AbbyIsMyWeim It Should Be Fine,Just Watch Out For Fights. They Will Fight Over Domination,Territory And Food. They Really Start To Get Agressive Around 6-8 Weeks Of Age,And Thats When They Reach Puberty. If You Want To Avoid Fights,Either Nueter Them,Or Get Females. But My Girls Fight Over Food Too,And They Have Little Play Fights. It Just Depends On Thier Personality!Hope You Have Fun With Your Rats,They Make Great Pets.

  • I think hamsters are pets for younger children as they don't need much interaction, but rats are forf older children and families as they are friendly and extra cute!!!

  • i like your cage, where'd you get it XD

  • I love the names, mine were Buddy and Holly!

  • You named him Heinz? I had one named Ketchup. lololol

  • the people who think rats are not good pets are idiots

  • @v8wr Why?

  • @v8wr ikr

  • Hihi, I gave mine a peanutbutter jar and he luves to stuff it with paper, toys and sometimes his poop *.*, I don't know why, but he doesn't think it's gross I guess?

  • @megadrummer100 You suck.

  • I had a rat with the same name, only his name was spelled Hines (after Hines Ward) from the Pittsburgh Steelers :D

  • 13 people are mayans

  • My rat put it's carrot back in the food bowl swell xD but she died :(

  • every rat makes a nest

    it's natural

  • Hey FYI MrsJelly if thats a galvanized steel cage you should really get it powder coated. The zinc has been proven to be toxic for rats and its also not good because the metal will rust and corrode as they continue to spread urine on it. Its super easy to do or to have it done anywhere if you cant. Smart lil guy btw, he seems like a happy lil fellow

  • cage 2 little....

  • My rats always do that, with every scrap of paper they can find. They even rip up the paper I put under the bedding and use that lol.

  • I wouldn't say that the rat is smart because of this, but I'm sure he is. My previous rats were clever little bungholeos. The ones I have now...not so much.

  • i miss having rats so much! had 5 when i was younger, used to take 1 with me wherever i went, to the park, supermarket etc. id forgotten what characters they were until looking at rat videos! some of the best pets i ever had :( RIP Trouble, Fudge, Rocky, Neo and Morpheus <3

  • Did you make that cage yourself? very nice, i made my girls' cage as well, they love it. and a good sized cage (priced 80-150 at a petstore) cost me only $40 to make! and i was able to customize it however i wanted!

  • @12stonesfuel1, I can tell by your spelling and punctuation that you are HIGHLY intelligent, aren't you. BTW it's spelled M-O-N-I-T-O-R.

You should be euthanized before you have a chance to reproduce.

Sorry for all the big words.

  • w0w...last week, i put my essay that i had all typed up and spelled nicly for school, i sat on her cage accedently and forgot it, and i woke up the next morning looking for it, and i happend to look in her cage, and there it is, in her cage while she is laying on it...i'll tell ya what, i could have strangled her, but i love her and didnt do anything haha

  • I agree with the discription on rats shouldent be treated bad

  • Aww cute :D

  • @12stonesfuel1 - your just sick. That's nasty to watch a snake eating a rat. Keep you ill comments to yourself next time. I'm sure people would agree with me on that one.

  • @12stonesfuel1 they're not nasty, they're cute and friendly. I'll feed your lizards to my rats. HA

  • @12stonesfuel1 You know, that probably wasn't the smartest comment to leave on this vid... A lot of rat-lovers would flay you alive for dissing rats. I would too, but I'm going to just warn you instead...

  • NICE CAGE! That must be one HAPPY rat!

  • Nice, how much money was the cage?

  • what kind of cage is that and how much is it? PLEASE ANSWER!!

  • @12stonesfuel1 Rats are very smart and make great pets. I think that you should just kill yourself. Nobody cares about you, idiot. And i'll bet that your lizards are tired of eating innocent animals but they have no choise because you don't feed them anything else. I hate you and so does your gf and your family. And you have absolutely no friends. Get out of this beautiful world.

  • What a cute little sweetiepie ratty rat!!!

  • I have six rats and i left my feather duvet about foot away from there cage when i came back the bottom of my duvet was gone and the rats had a very comfy bed lol

  • I got some mice, they act almost the same, but since a while one is totally crazy, it is putting the hay from the floor in every hole it sees

  • where did u get him/her??? and where did u get the cage???

  • My rats pull in anything near their cage. One time I left a roll of paper towels next to the cage and they pulled in the whole roll leaving on the cardboard out. Clever little critters. :P

  • what bar spacing is this???? it looks one inch.

  • I used to tie small pieces of cloth to the bar, and let my rats untie them. They seemed to love doing it. You could try something similar with your rats, it is always a good idea to challenge them.

  • Mine got a piece of printer paper, shredded it, and used it for a bed.

  • i absolutely love your cage! very creative ^.^ did you make it yourself?

  • im gonna breed rats to feed to my snakes, but the breeders im keeping as pets

  • @CorbinDCreptiles That has to b so hard 2 do. Actually i loved rats through snakes. I loved it so much, that i begged my mother not to let the rat eat her, and she gave in, and we all loved her. Even my dad cried when she died, which is kind of weird since he's the tough guy in the house. :)

  • @Nintendogsfreak11 neh, all animals are worth the same value, as long as something is being killed for a reason, like to be eaten, im fine with it.

  • My rat pwns this! 1 a4 sheet of paper right in 1 go through little squares! Pwnd u :) xxx lolzzzz I like x's xxxxxxxxxxxx Badger Badger Badger Bad Ger

  • what cage is that???? i really need a cage like that bcuz mine keepz breaking... and can that hold 2 rats?

  • i like your rat, he's smart, my rat doesn't even know his name, but i love him anyway.

  • cute :)

my rats perla and diamond used to always rearrange the cage right after i cleaned it...which involved dropping things down the ramp. perla intrigued me most when i saw her method. after letting go, she'd quickly reach out and swipe at it so it would land in the middle of the bottom level instead of just down the ramp in the corner. :D

once in a while diamond gets in a mood and transports most of the bedding UP a level! rats are so fun and silly! :)

  • Yes it is surprising how intellegent such a small animal can be, I didn't believe it until I saw some vids. Anyway, there are some really dumb cats and dogs out there soo lol. I am waiting to get employment before I buy some.

  • Wow! I love your cage. That is such a good idea to have a plastic tub underneath. Why have I never thought of that??? Did you make the rest of the cage? It's really brilliant, it makes me want to make my own.

  • I love you rats cage!!!

  • @milkarandy Dog? CAT?!? LMFAO! Okay mate... o.O

  • @milkarandy lol rats can be trained too and rats are usually really clean animals... u obviously don't know much about animals ;)

  • @milkarandy you claim rats arent smart then say dogs and cats are smart cause you can teach them. rats are perfectly capable to 'teach' just as well. they will respond to name calling, do tricks, and so on just as a dog or cat would.

  • @milkarandy Gee dislike rats much? Rats are incredibly intelligent. Rats (along with dolphins and humans) are the only known species to show cognitive thought processes (i.e they'll do things not because of instinct, but because there's a benefit to doing it).

  • @milkarandy I don't mean this as an angry retort at all, I just wanted to make sure you were aware that rats are intelligent. Not only can you teach them tricks (they learn their names, you can teach them to walk on two legs, and I could go on and on) but they also have an official Rat Olympics. Also, both domestic and wild rats have been known to outsmart humans and other animals. Rats are also not as "filthy" as their reputation suggests. They wash themselves at least six times per day.

  • @rats639 i'd say much much more than six! lol

  • Rats are very intelligent animals. Usually these facts are used based upon comparisons. Your idea of "Smart" is an animal that is close to our intellect as humans, in which you are right, dolphins are very smart animals. But, if you look at rats, dogs, cats, and pigs. All these animals are very smart too, and are also capable of showing affection. Its amazing that they are living changing beings just like us, and not just there surviving. They are thriving in their environment.

  • @milkarandy rats are not filthy animals. they are very clean. they are not more filthy than a stupid dog or a cat.

  • @milkarandy really? so why could my rat write hi when i was on imvu with him on my shoulder saying say hi to them and it go down and press them? cant be a surive skill

  • I ended up with a rat that looked just like this in one of my unexpected litters... So cute :D

  • LONER!

  • why was he so smart??

  • @LeoniejtePietje because rats are really intelligent animals.

  • I had a hamster that was extremely similar to a rat. Spike. He would escape, and come back. And he was very affectionate, only bit a few times, like a mini dog! But then one day he escaped, and we left our window open, and there was a neighborhood cat.. yeahhh. D= Poor Spike.

  • aww cute and smart rat.

  • thats a good way to gve it exercise =)

  • lol no way... i have two rats... one named Kit and the other named Kat :D

  • This is exactly what I found that one of my rats, Knight, can do. ;)

  • wat is it doing

  • @shinzochan my rat sleeps all night he never gets up its not a problem for me

  • whats so cool aboiut papper

  • at 1:40 it looked like Heinze was gettin mail

  • lol its like. if i get enough paper i can burn it and suicide

  • Rats are much better than hamsters...

  • thats a really smar rat

  • omg did u train it to do that mine knows several tricks but my step sis not as much

  • this cage is too small, poor rat! :(

  • i want that cage omg ! where did u get it !

  • YOU ROCK. I totally agree with you! About everything!

(about what you said in your vid description)

  • i'm a girl and i did have a Rat for a pet for a time.

  • did utrain him to do that?

  • well rnt hamster still intelligent?

  • hey heinz,what's up :)

love this video,A+ and thumbs up on this one,God Bless

  • Ok, so i bought my rat a fancy and expensive bed...she hated it. I got a small box...she didnt want to come out. They teach us so many things...Like enjoying the small inexpensive stuff

  • Haha, rats indeed are clever. My rat pulls the curtain the bars of the cage-well, as much of the curtain as she can- and I wake up to find it stuffed in there. It's funny and I still have no clue what she's intending to do with it :D

  • My guess would be she is nesting. Every female rat I have ever had does this and even a few males. Try giving her a few paper towels or even sheets of newspaper--my guess is she will shred them and make a nice nest.

  • what is it doing? nice cage

  • Making a nest/bed

  • @MrsJelly no, it's covering it's food...=) mine do that too

  • @MrsJelly What's it doing?!!

  • @ktrkingfish u gotta check out my channel,,i upload a video of my hamster walking to get his treat :P

  • ok i will try that thing! ..... your rat is totally same as mine... same color at the same place... hahaha That's my rat!!!!!!!! You stole my rat!!!!! :O

  • cool, my rat does that too

  • mom the rat ate my homework!

  • @xxrob511 great i can say that to my teacher i tell you if it worked

  • nice cage

  • how cute! my rats do the exact same thing.

  • @Qutie135 ya. my first 2 rats lived alone then i got 2 together and like a week later 1 died. now that other rat lives alone but i let her out of the cage all the time-like all day ...

  • oh rats are fun i got 2 new ones today but my mom got a small cage and when we put it together she said they looked a lot smaller at the pet store so we have to get yet another cage that is bigger but we had rats before and they are realy fun

  • @Qutie135 thats why theres an owner.

  • Rats live naturally in big packs and should in captivity never live alone. Even with the best of owners they need a rat-friend. Petstores where I live never sell only one rat unless you already have a rat at home for company to the new one.

  • my pet rat use to clean his own cage he use to flick the woodshaving onto a dustpan and i'd empty it when it was full. sadly ralph the rat isn't with us anymore

  • maybe because you used wood shavings.

  • wood shavings is okay just as long as there's no dust and the rat isn't allergic...paper based cat litter or wood based cat litter works just as well and is easier to clean and not messy or smelly and not allergenic

  • my rat is the same breed

  • rats should never be kept in wood shavings

  • @pinksodasara hardwood shavings are okay.

  • erikandfox, no they are not okay as they can dry out their skin and cause eczema

  • @pinksodasara So can a light bulb. Check out your basic rat info sheet.

  • please dont patronise me,is it really that difficult to buy them safe paper bedding, no it isnt

  • @pinksodasara Wood won't kill them.

  • It is actually okay to use hardwood shavings, if that is what you're using. However, if you want to talk about basic rat sheets you'll see that rats should be kept in groups of at least two and need a bigger cage than the one you're keeping yours in.

  • i like black hooded rats and dumbos

  • So cute ... I must dig out and upload our video of one of our ratties trying to drag an entire cardboard box into the cage :) Wonderful, intelligent creatures, and much maligned - so undeserving of their negative reputation.

  • mine looks almost identicle to him/her mines a she

  • YEA!!!! the cage is awesome!!! and the rat is awesomer!!!!
