Watching this debate, I conclude that one-on-one debate in Iranian presidential election made far more sense that this. 4 candidates, 8 (1 hour) one-on-one debates, each candidate receiving 1 minute per turn at each debate. that gives each candidate a full an hour and half to talk. Duceppe did not (or could not) receive as much time as others. This was no debate !
If you think that all gov't spending increases and tax increases are bad things then you must be in the top ~10% of wealthy Canadians. Either that or you are simply lost.
@KillerHurdz If gov't spending increases and tax increases were good things, I would've lived a very prosperous and happy life in USSR today. If you're in the top 10% of wealthy Canadians, you are a business owner, your taxes are going up and your std of living is decreasing as a result, you don't sit around and think "that's helping other Canadians"... you fire your workers and increase prices to your products to keep up. That's just common sense.
@KA3AXCTAH2030 Like I said before, look to the USA. Are they doing well? Hardly. They have a huge portion of the poorest people in any 1st world country as well as a large number of the wealthiest. Sure, you need some people at the top and some at the bottom but a solid middle class is crucial to a stable economy. The NDP and Greens aren't full blown communists --they're, instead, both solid left wing parties that will give Canada its own identity.
@KillerHurdz The U.S. does just fine there bud, don't believe fake statistics. Our poor have big screen TV's and free places to live. They choose to be poor, you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. No matter how many benefits are dished out, you cannot make people succeed. 99% of our "poor" people are not trying to make their lives better, they just run around whining and expecting hand outs by hard working people.
I like how Harper doesn't look at the leaders of the opposition parties in the eyes when he's lying his way through this debate. That's a pretty sure sign he's not being honest.
Wait... did that Liberal Party leader have the balls to say that the Conservative plan was approved by local communities but not by public officials? i think the people have the right to govern themselves, not to be dictated upon. It doesn't matter what you even think of the plan at that point... wow, just... wow...
The only thing I could agree with is that raising corporate taxes will increase consumer costs and increase unemployment. The rest of the debate is a complete joke. None of them understand economics or stand for public interest. All are big government spenders and do not truly believe in personal or economic freedom. I wish I could see a person up there I could support. We need a Canadian Ron Paul here to have a debate worthwhile watching.
Harper enacted the public works act at the G20. Spent billions of dollars to enact martial law so the police could burn their own cars and arrest old folks walking in the park.
canada: you guys are so fucked. this debate was pathetic. there was absolutely no vision. "why didn't my friends get tax dollars?" "no, MY friends should be getting all the tax dollars?" you guys seriously need fresh ideas, and a new vision.
Harper is a douchebag. He seems like he is a global warming conspirator, global warming is not the real problem in the environment, it's an exposed conspiracy. He is lying and a deceiver. Do not be fooled by his lies.
@leejae LOL, his government was held in CONTEMPT! Thats an international embarrassment! He avoids answering any questions directly. He is the stereotypical politician: a snake.
@leejae what? how has that anything to do with his government being in contempt? they are forcing an election BECAUSE he was held in contempt. How is that a dumb reason for having an election.
@andreaniall2 It's dumb because they force a pointless election. Waste of time and money. And the funniest thing is they gave the conservatives a majority. Congratulate yourself. Thank you.
@trooperman100 By saying that, you just denied 300 years of history. Culturally, economically, historically and linguistically, Quebec has always been like another country in Canada. So, yes, as a matter of fact, it IS Quebec and Canada.
Everyone bombs harper, harper doesnt dare to stare anyone in the eyes. Hes lookin at the camera. Honestly, I like the NDP & Bloc leaders even though I work for the liberals xD
Notice Harper's face didn't have an expression during the debate? Criminals and liars use Botox to stop their expression from betraying their words - Chemical composure! Anyone else notice that? He was blank - and given barrage of questions it is humanly impossible not to display micro-expressions ie. Surprise, anger, sadness, fear, contempt, joy - etc
this is not fair.either all leaders of all registered parties should present on debates or none of them. this is just a promotion of establishment. where is green party? libertarians? action party?
@KillerHurdz I thought by 2011 people would've learned that "let's rob the rich" game never works... [sigh]
Why vote for anyone, who wants to raise taxes at all? I mean, they all will, but still... They should be talking about decreasing spending, not increasing revenues and finding victims to rob.
@KA3AXCTAH2030 If you want to live in the United States then go move there. This is Canada and most of us are willing to pay for services like healthcare and better education. The Conservatives have decreased taxes at the expense of these things. It's great for the wealthier folks as they pay less tax on their annual income but this just isn't helping to keep the remaining majority of us Canadians financially stable and above the poverty line.
@KillerHurdz I understand your concern about the rich class, but the proposed solutions are no good and the poor/middle class will end up paying for it. The majority of us will never get any better if we simply steal from the rich. If you want a rich and prosperous middle class you have to address issues of central fractional reserve banking and fiat currency, which none of the candidates even mention. Why would I move to the US? Analogically, if you want to live in Cuba, then go move there :)
@KillerHurdz 30 years old and you still haven't figured out liberalism is a failure? lol. No govt. is efficient and waging class warfare sparked by jealousy, and trusting some all might powerful central govt. is not a good idea. Don't you read history? Macro/Micro economics? Oh wait "Books: Ya Right".
@Warpath2198 jesus man. just shut the fuck up about your stupid ass libertarian bullshit that failed as badly as liberalism and go cry about imaginary ''leftist propaganga/they want to destroy the world/conspiracy'' somewhere else.
@KA3AXCTAH2030 The hurdz guy is a moron anyway. He talks about the U.S. as if he has lived here. 99% of our "poor" have big screen TV's and Xbox's and they have more benefits thrown at them than anyone else yet they choose to live that way. You can force people to succeed. After 10 years in the military I was finally able to go to college and support myself, even now as I finish up my school while working 40-50hrs per week, the "poor" get free education and sleep in class.
@Warpath2198 My family owns a home in Arizona. This isn't about country vs country, this is about what is financially best for you. If you don't need government-provided benefits, then you're not going to like the high tax left wing system. If, however, you have trouble paying for those dental appointments because you don't have a ccompany that will pay then you should be voicing that.
@KillerHurdz Its not about country vs. country but the western world is failing because of liberalism and its amazing to see people such as yourselves pushing for the concept. Liberalism has bankrupt much of Europe and the United States. Seriously if people can't afford dental care why is that my problem or some companies problem? I know a guy right now with two teeth missing in the front and our company pays for our dental care and he would rather buy guns or video games.
@KillerHurdz Liberalism has turned places like the UK into a police state, bankrupted Greece, Spain, Ireland. Everywhere it has been used the people suffer greatly, China, N. Korea, Cuba, Russia, Venezuela, even monarchies and despot govt. are forms of socialism where the people work for the state, depend on the state, and their individual rights are trampled whenever the state sees fit to do so.
@KillerHurdz Look at your own nation, most of your population lives near the U.S. border, and survives mainly off of trade with the U.S. or U.S. created jobs. Your military has been greatly scaled back in favor of social benefits poorly ran by your govt. Here in the U.S. Indian Reservations, Hispanic populations, and inner cities where most of our black population lives are liberal Democrats and are the biggest failures in our nation. That is not an accident.
@Warpath2198 Tell me why the top 1% of the US population account for most of the total wealth? Sometimes, it's a good idea to sit down and discuss why there are multiple government structures as each has a purpose.
Also, why are you talking about how you dislike the US's gun craze when your right wing party favors it? That seems like backwards thinking to me.
I'm not trying to anger you, I just think having less wealth in the top 1% while also shrinking the lower class is a good idea.
@KA3AXCTAH2030 Its sad that foreigners from Eastern Europe come to the U.S. and love this country and they work hard in school receiving "free" education paid for by people like me. Raising taxes is bad for any economy and every central govt. runs their programs like shit because they are more concerned about trading votes for benefits and their have their own district and personal agendas.
@KA3AXCTAH2030 I really hope this fair tax system goes through in the U.S. the Russians are already using it. How many people have you met in an income tax system that says things like "well I don't want a promotion because it will move me into a new tax bracket" or the famous "I don't want overtime, they tax me more and its just not worth it". Income tax systems is a system of class warfare. The politicians play on the jealousy of the ignorant and keep them fighting amongst themselves.
@blastedwpg harper now has got 166 seats which is about %54. That's a majority government. that means opposition have to shut their mouth until next term ! ..... Only if more educated people would vote.
@ramin85 Yeah I know that! Just pointing that out. 60% didn't vote for him but I forgot to mention his plurality of the vote was enough to secure a majority of the seats. And who the fuck are you to act all superior by suggesting I'm uneducated! Fuck you!
@fenix144 why would you even consider separation if your current country is in G8 ?! and if you're thinking Quebec can compete with Canada on the international scale I suggest you look at Canada's history and how they played the fox AND the idiot in the middle of it all...

why the hell is gilles deccepe aloud to be on this? it pisses me off that Canadians have to pay taxes that go to funding this extremist's party. and it was funny how the only guy on there to do well was Stephen Harper, layton and iggy completley blew it for themsleves when they started making wise cracks and unprefessional accusations < those things are pretty much the biggest reason Canada is so infamous for a low voter turnout, nobody wants to watch grown men act like children trying to be PM!
This isn't even a debate. This is three power hungry career politicians attacking a well spoken man who would crush them if they ever actually gave a straight answer to any question.
Duceppe is the greatest at debates, he's great at applying pressure, he's always fully prepared with quotations from the opposition. It's too bad he's the leader of a party that can't make him win.
They should do this more often. That was damn entertaining! My main man Gentleman Jack took that debate hands down(and the debate en francais from today as well IMO). Hold that lying, undemocratic, fear mongering, Republican puppet Harper accountable baby!
Why don't people remember the Sponsorship Scandal that toppled the Liberal government in 2004, which is why it has not been in power these many years? Stephen Harper has managed to steer the Canadian ship quite well through the troubled waters of the last few years, insomuch that Canada is still number 8 on the UN Poverty Index compared to number 16 for UK and 17 for the USA. Let's keep this captain on board till we get to the other side.
I used to lean with the Liberal party during the during the late 1990 and early 2000 until this scandal happened. Since then I stuck with the Conservative and never missed to vote for them every election. CONSERVATIVE ALL THE WAY!!!
OMG if any government other than the Conservative win, I will choke myself!!! Especially whinning French Ass.....none of these guys even know how to speak (except for Harper)
@cutzie99 Yeah, none of these guys know how to speak(propaganda, mis-info, lies, and half truths) like good old Stephen Harper... You should be proud.
OMG if any government other than the Conservative win, I will choke myself!!! Especially whinning French Ass.....none of these guys even know how to speak (except for Harper)
the government today, announced that it's changing its emblem from the Maple Leaf to a CONDOM, because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of dicks, and gives you a sense of security while you're ...actually being screwed.
quebec's party needs to disolve, this whole crap about them taking a chunk of my canada and leaving is bull****. those whining french need to accept that or get the hell out. Theres way too much comping for those frenchies they lost the war they should of went home or the british should of shot them all
@Xeidasx ''quebec's party needs to disolve, this whole crap about them taking a chunk of my canada and leaving is bull****. those whining french need to accept that or get the hell out.''
it's exactly because of bitches such as yourself we want to gtfo. you're motherfucking clueless, bitch.
@AncientFuturist That would be the ideal scenario. I'm sick and tired of Harper going way left and compromising on everything because of the Liberals and NDP. I just hope he actually follows through on some Conservative policies, like immigration control, spending decreases and tax reduction.
@return135 You and me both. We really don't need another coddler in Parliament. Our economy would be shot with someone like the "give everyone hugs" Layton in any measure of power, and Ignatieff would choke everyone in a cloud of smug.
@return135 im voting conservative to cut down on all this immigration. these guys are slashing the throats of good buisness and living 2-4 families in one house hold
@Xeidasx Good choice. Where i go to school i am around many East Indian and Arab immigrants. I have to say, they are not very smart, very annoying to be around, and quite frankly are not people you want to live around. They are also tend to vote for left wing parties, which is not good.
Proportional representation is needed in this country, especially when the Bloc Quebecois 1.80 million votes(9.98%) and receives 49 seats and the Green Party gets 938,000 votes(6.78%) and does not even have a single seat in parliament. I could also say that the NDP received 2.51 million votes(18.2%) and receives 37 seats. Something needs to change.
What a bunch of shameful cretins we have as choices in this election. It makes me sick when Harper plays the nice guy. This is the same guy who shuts down parliament on a whim to avoid a confidence vote and tough questions about his foreign policy. I hope this control freak doesn't get a majority. As for Ignatieff... WHO ARE YOU? NO ONE IN CANADA HAS EVER HEARD OF YOU. YOUR APPROVAL RATINGS ARE A DISGRACE. Duceppe / Layton aren't even worth a single word. These guys all SUCK.
It's so creepy that this Harper guy is staring in the camera all the time, during the debate. Duceppe, Ignatief and Layton are the people's representatives, look THEM in the eye, you lunatic!
I had to watch, as I wasn't yet sure what way I'm leaning. Harper, although robotlike, fended off a lot of hostility and explained himself well. He's never been a passionate individual. Layton promises the stars, but doesn't really seem to have any game plan to initiate all these great promised. Iggy kept repeating his questions after being answered, kind of annoying. Gille is a stark raving lunatic who only gives a shit about what's good for Quebec, and he murders the English language
Amazing. Harper answers the question, repeatedly. Duceppe assaults him on an unrelated question. Ignorantieff tells him he's a liar, while lying about his own history. Layton delivers the most childish condescending statement in the history of political debates. Part 1 appears to be Harper vs. the douchebags. Seriously, voting for someone other than CPC this election might be a sign of a mental illness.
I want to urge Canadians to not look so much at a particular leader's personality as much as you look at your ridings mp's to be elected. You may find that you're voting for a leader when the MP you elect ends up completely going against you're views.
I don't know if your comment was removed or something, and although I agree with you somewhat (I think you were suggesting that MPs don't really care for the ridings they represent and that they don't have a lot of autonomy in their party), I do think in the current system that voting for an MP is more important than a leader however. If you do your research on votes by the individual MPs on bills, I think you'd see they don't necessarily "vote on party lines" as you said.
Posters of Jack Layton's moustache all over Canada every time. Fourth fucking election in seven fucking years, for fuck's sake, I feel like voting Harper against just to have a stable government.
Because whenever Canadians have been given the chance to vote for election reform in provincial referendums they have voted against proportional representation or multiple member pluralities. Because Canada is a democratic society and the majority of the people in Canada don't want electoral change there hasn't been any.
Harper Gov FELL on CONTEMPT of PARLIAMENT. That is a SERIOUS OFFENCE. This has NEVER HAPPENED in the HISTORY of the WESTMINSTER PARLIAMENT. That MEANS ALL COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES. NO GOVERNMENT has EVER BEEN FOUND in CONTEMPT of PARLIAMENT.
For the first time in History a committee of Parliament has found a government to be in Contempt. This is the third charge of contempt in this period of government
You're really focusing on the wording and not the allegations that actually caused parliament to fall. Yes it is an historical even, but are the charges here any worse than charges faced by previous governments? The quoted source in your statement is an opinion piece and can hardly be seen as an unbiased source.
I'm not a Conservative by no stretch but looking at my options, How can I NOT vote for Harper this time around! I am sick and tired of the bickering and misdirection created by the Libs and NDPs away from the real issues that matter. I sure as he77 am not going to vote for a party that wants to destroy Canada.
Harper - looks like a middle aged former school yard bully. The block guy - looks crazy; The ndp guy - nice guy, just wish he wasnt the leader of the ndp; liberal guy - he will have a scandal where he is lining his own pockets within 6 months; short fat lady that wasn't at this thing - can't see her being the leader.
Ok - I like they are buying the new jets. I don't like that we sent forces into Libya. I don't like there is still a gun registry. I don't like that I can't get child benefits because my wife makes too much money. I like my healthcare. I don't like there is a minority government.
I am curious as to why a street girl and convicted money launderer is allowed in the presence of the PM. While the PM has recently had his staff defend not allowing hard working Canadians near him because of security reasons?
There seems to be a disconect or many untruths being told by this man to Canadians.
The Green Party Received more than 7 PERCENT of the Votes during the Last Election (From Across Canada), Why are they NOT Represented in this Debate while the Bloc from Quebec is ??
@halcyon0830 maybe cuz the Bloc Québécois received 9.98% of the votes last election and has 49 seats in parliament, while the Green Party received 6.78% of the votes and doesn't have a single seat in parliament
@TracesofHumanity I liked Harper's expressions which seemed to me to be calm and more kindly. He did not let others control him despite the harsh accusations thrown at him. He does have naturally deep-set eyes and glasses which makes his eyes hard to see.
@9tyube9 Notice Harper's face didn't have an expression during the debate? Criminals and liars use Botox to stop their expression from betraying their words - Chemical composure! Anyone else notice that? He was blank - and given barrage of questions it is humanly impossible not to display micro-expressions ie. Surprise, anger, sadness, fear, contempt, joy - etc
Duceppe and Layton give me the impression that they are passionately and genuinely angry about the harper government which I think the voters love to see. Iggy looks contrived comparatively. I hate to say it but Harper would come out stronger from the debate. He looked clam and articulate.
You know what's wrong with this system? How political un-education is propagated among the populace. Harper can say whatever he wants in the creepy PR approved manner that make it seem like his words could be plausible to the media misinformed. No one (except right wing tea partiers) who really understood the mechanics of his rhetoric would draw any conclusion other than he is a sociopath. "forcing an election no one wanted" Anyone who knew what was going on would want an election.
It's precarious in Canada; Harper and his Conservative party are the only right-wing party, taking 38% of the vote in the last election, while the other three center-left to left guys and the Greens (not represented in this debate) took the other 62% of the vote. Canada is a centre-left country being governed by right-wingers. In the 80's the Progressive Conservatives were a lot more like Richard Lugar, Rudy Giuliani, and Bob Dole types, but today they're a lot more like Scott Walker.
These Conservatives have their roots in The Reform Party, the most right-wing party in Canadian history, not the Progressive Conservatives. There is nothing progressive about Harper & his gang of thugs.
Red Tories don't exist anymore. Even Joe Clark wants nothing to do with these Conservatives.
Re: America, I don't think most Americans give a rat's ass about Canada or this election or any other election. Half of Canadians don't give a rat's ass, why should Americans?
For our American friends and others, a little info about these guys: Harper holds 143 seats in the Parliament. You need 155 to govern with a majority. Harper threw out a budget he knew the others wouldn't support, triggering an election in the hopes that Cdns would be so sick and tired of elections every 2 years that they will hand Harper the majority he pines after.
Harper didn't trigger an election with the budget it was a vote of confidence on the contempt of parliament issue that brought the house down. It's ok to post your obvious bias but at least get the facts straight.
@SpySlowhands Our whole way of running our country is not working, we need a different system. We're sick of the way other parties can't assist the government that we voted in and all they can do is squabble and fight. I'm so sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Roachenator Stick your nose out of our debate. For anyone here who doesn't know..Roachenator is a american neo-con puppet who makes videos praising Fox News and bashing anyone who dares speak ill of it..He's a fan of John Gibson, Sean Hannity, Bill Oreilly and their like.. He likes to stroke the cock of the most evil neo-cons in the world and likes to lick fox news' balls. Not in our country Roach...we still have freedom and don't want to see it poluted by warmongering little shitheads like u
@Roachenator Hahaha thanks for proving how stupid you really are..I'm Canadian you little twat and you have no idea what being a proud Canadian is about. We don't want to be like your evil tyrranical poor excuse of a country. I know it's hard for you to understand that because you've nearly overdosed yourself by drinking Glenn Beck's bag sweat. Now go back to worshipping your fox idols and making videos of women in bikinis who you'll never even come close to talking to. Poor bastard LOL.

It's pathetic that some Canadian conservatives are claiming Ignatieff was not born in Canada.
Canada's very own "Birther Movement" - how original...
Google "Girther Movement" and find out about the new Tea Party-esque angle that could bury the left.

@KillerHurdz Exactly.
kodiak1966 10 months ago
@KillerHurdz I thought by 2011 people would've learned that "let's rob the rich" game never works... [sigh]
Why vote for anyone, who wants to raise taxes at all? I mean, they all will, but still... They should be talking about decreasing spending, not increasing revenues and finding victims to rob.
KA3AXCTAH2030 10 months ago
@KA3AXCTAH2030 If you want to live in the United States then go move there. This is Canada and most of us are willing to pay for services like healthcare and better education. The Conservatives have decreased taxes at the expense of these things. It's great for the wealthier folks as they pay less tax on their annual income but this just isn't helping to keep the remaining majority of us Canadians financially stable and above the poverty line.
KillerHurdz 10 months ago
@KillerHurdz I understand your concern about the rich class, but the proposed solutions are no good and the poor/middle class will end up paying for it. The majority of us will never get any better if we simply steal from the rich. If you want a rich and prosperous middle class you have to address issues of central fractional reserve banking and fiat currency, which none of the candidates even mention. Why would I move to the US? Analogically, if you want to live in Cuba, then go move there :)
KA3AXCTAH2030 10 months ago
@KillerHurdz 30 years old and you still haven't figured out liberalism is a failure? lol. No govt. is efficient and waging class warfare sparked by jealousy, and trusting some all might powerful central govt. is not a good idea. Don't you read history? Macro/Micro economics? Oh wait "Books: Ya Right".

@Warpath2198 jesus man. just shut the fuck up about your stupid ass libertarian bullshit that failed as badly as liberalism and go cry about imaginary ''leftist propaganga/they want to destroy the world/conspiracy'' somewhere else.
fenix144 3 months ago
@KA3AXCTAH2030 The hurdz guy is a moron anyway. He talks about the U.S. as if he has lived here. 99% of our "poor" have big screen TV's and Xbox's and they have more benefits thrown at them than anyone else yet they choose to live that way. You can force people to succeed. After 10 years in the military I was finally able to go to college and support myself, even now as I finish up my school while working 40-50hrs per week, the "poor" get free education and sleep in class.
Warpath2198 4 months ago
@Warpath2198 My family owns a home in Arizona. This isn't about country vs country, this is about what is financially best for you. If you don't need government-provided benefits, then you're not going to like the high tax left wing system. If, however, you have trouble paying for those dental appointments because you don't have a ccompany that will pay then you should be voicing that.
KillerHurdz 4 months ago
@KillerHurdz Its not about country vs. country but the western world is failing because of liberalism and its amazing to see people such as yourselves pushing for the concept. Liberalism has bankrupt much of Europe and the United States. Seriously if people can't afford dental care why is that my problem or some companies problem? I know a guy right now with two teeth missing in the front and our company pays for our dental care and he would rather buy guns or video games.
Warpath2198 4 months ago
@KillerHurdz Liberalism has turned places like the UK into a police state, bankrupted Greece, Spain, Ireland. Everywhere it has been used the people suffer greatly, China, N. Korea, Cuba, Russia, Venezuela, even monarchies and despot govt. are forms of socialism where the people work for the state, depend on the state, and their individual rights are trampled whenever the state sees fit to do so.
Warpath2198 4 months ago
@KillerHurdz Look at your own nation, most of your population lives near the U.S. border, and survives mainly off of trade with the U.S. or U.S. created jobs. Your military has been greatly scaled back in favor of social benefits poorly ran by your govt. Here in the U.S. Indian Reservations, Hispanic populations, and inner cities where most of our black population lives are liberal Democrats and are the biggest failures in our nation. That is not an accident.
Warpath2198 4 months ago

Warpath2198 4 months ago
@KA3AXCTAH2030 I really hope this fair tax system goes through in the U.S. the Russians are already using it. How many people have you met in an income tax system that says things like "well I don't want a promotion because it will move me into a new tax bracket" or the famous "I don't want overtime, they tax me more and its just not worth it". Income tax systems is a system of class warfare. The politicians play on the jealousy of the ignorant and keep them fighting amongst themselves.

Why don't people remember the Sponsorship Scandal that toppled the Liberal government in 2004, which is why it has not been in power these many years? Proportional representation is needed in this country, especially when the Bloc Quebecois 1.80 million votes(9.98%) and receives 49 seats and the Green Party gets 938,000 votes(6.78%) and does not even have a single seat in parliament. I could also say that the NDP received 2.51 million votes(18.2%) and receives 37 seats. Something needs to change.

@SpySlowhands - true dat.

@SpySlowhands
