Comparisons side by side really do not mean any thing. It entirely depends on what settings you have set in dxtory. If you have a hdd that can really handle dxtory the quality is by far better than fraps. I use both programs and am much happier with dxtory. Oh and fyi. I have found that you need to add a brightness filter in sony vegas for both programs to make the video have the regular brightness.
Also, inaccurate brightness/saturation *is* a color issue. Decoded Dxtory RGB footage looks exactly like my print screens down to every pixel, whereas FRAPS RGB shows up as brighter and more saturated than the original. This shouldn't be happening.. FRAPS RGB is lossless and *should* look exactly like my print-screens.. so it's something wrong on my end that I can't pin down.
I have the opposite problem. Decoded FRAPS video is way too bright and saturated when compared to a direct game screen capture (with pintscreen.)
I'm guessing we are both having some kind of problem on the decoder end. What did you use to re-encode this?
Never had trouble with sound on Dxtory. "Speakers" or "Stereo Mix" always record perfectly. I actually prefer Dxtory's sound recording options; being able to record multiple audio tracks is nice.
The FRAPS codec seems to be known for inaccurate color storage. Either it doesn't store correctly, or it doesn't identify itself to video renderers correctly. This even happens with RGB capture, which is ridiculous. :/
The Dxtory Codec captures color perfectly when set to RGB, as does any other lossless codec I've tested. Not sure what's up with FRAPS..
@velocitas I used the default codec for Dxtory. And nothing is wrong with my fraps the color is fine it's just a tiny bit brighter than my actual game. Dxtory came out way too dark. And it didn't record any of my sound even though I had the sound record button checked and the right speaker selected in the options.

What colorspace on Dxtory? RGB?
