The Stanley is steam heated and you're there in february when it's usually below zero at night in Estes. The radiator vents in most of the rooms are right below the windows and when the steam comes up, the cold window box reacts to the heat.Therefore you hear the wood creaking sounds as it expands.

The heater maybe? The heater panel is on the other side of the room though? What ever it was, it was cool to have the experience while at the hotel!
