no he's jsut being realistic..ppl from the slums dont have global exposure nor much exposure to the media..hecne since the show does cater to those requirements as we;ve seen for such shows..the winners are generally well educated..hence he came up with that idea.

Slumdog is an excellent film, really genius. I love it. And love Dev Patel, he's ace. Its annoying how little Letterman knows about the film and about Dev, on chat shows in the UK (e.g. Jonathon Ross) and on other shows in the US (e.g. Ellen), the interviewer finds out stuff about the star before the interview, Letterman makes himself loos stupid and then makes Dev look stupid by knowing nothing about the film and about Skins, which is a big shw among teens in UK. Its really annoying.

No, I'm not an actor at all. Stuck in academia unfortunatley, lol! I think Dave Letterman didn't want to be 'bothered' by such a small star, at the time this was taped SDM wasn't as huge a movie as it's turned out to be. I'll bet if Dev goes back now, it'll be a different story altogether. It was uncomfortable watching Letterman being so careless about his comments but like I said, Dev handled it like a pro.

Dev has been acting in th UK prior to Slumdog - most notably in the British TV series "Skins" with Nicholas Hoult from "About a Boy" (with Hugh Grant). Boyle's daughter recommended him when he was looking for a Jamal and the rest is history.

Letterman's never seen Skins, evidently. Neither have I. Dev makes it sound like a silly show, and Letterman is just joking around about it - that's all. I seem to be spending a fair amount of time defending Letterman for his interviews with actors who are Indian or of Indian descent. Maybe his humor just doesn't translate well to non-Americans.

and he didn't have any professional training in ACTING before or during skins...all he had done was GCSE Drama (compulsory secondary education)

Dave Letterman was just an idiot - his questions were crap and he clearly didn't do any research on Dev (he didnt know what Skins was)
Usually Letterman is good, and i have total respect for him...but this was a poor interview on his part (not Dev's)

I agree Letterman didn't seem interested in the film or Dev. But Dev I think seems quite shaky which is why I thought he seemed nervous. Either that or hes a bit too excited to be seeing Letterman.

Amitabh Bachan and Regis!!!!!!!!I mean the fan following of bachan in his hay days was like 10 times more than the likes of Tom Cruise and all the top line hollywood actors.I think Dev should have empphasised the popularity and greatness of Amitabh keeping in mind the inherent ego problems that people like letterman have.

Why you getting so pissed? Everyone has their own opinion about Letterman, and I say he is a DOUCHE, he's not even 1% into this movie or its story, I feel like he's bringing it and Dev down every chance he gets. Calm the fuck down.

hes not even a real actor- he got into skins at 16 and in slumdog millionaire all he really did is sit most of the time in shock. theres so many more people who are more talented then this dude.

Perhaps there are people more talented than him. But that doesn't take away the fact that he's talented. He did an excellent job in Slumdog Millionaire, IMHO.
And regarding the backup to your claim (i.e., "hes not even a real actor"): Are you also implying that Haing S. Ngor from The Killing Fields, who was not a professional (i.e., "real") actor, had little talent? Oh, and perhaps Pierre de Fermat, who was not a professional (i.e., "real") mathematician, had little talent as well?

True - completely agree, there wasn't much to his "acting" per se..but he lucked into it - only because he looks like a "loser" (to agree with blueash28).
The little kids - the first set - were AMAZING. As for Letterman being "racist" - I assume that is who the comment is directed to - he did not act weird with Ash Rai - who cannot give an intelligent interview if her life dependent on it. The girl is a moron, an embarrasment.

Yeah but try to remember- would you take a role of a character being naked in the entire series? Even at the age of 16?!!! Teen characters in the U.S. did that part at the legal age of 18. So that takes balls of steel to try that role, even if you have family that sees your movie. Ouch.

yea he is a joke, and bollywood blows, a disgrace to the country. But i've seen some of bacchan's older movies (MUCH better than the ones nowadays where he tries to be overly cool and westernized), and i understand why hes revered. those older movies were leagues better than the movies back then. (they all still for the most part sucked)

Letterman's never seen Skins, evidently. Neither have I. Dev makes it sound like a silly show, and Letterman is just joking around about it - that's all. I seem to be spending a fair amount of time defending Letterman for his interviews with actors who are Indian or of Indian descent. Maybe his humor just doesn't translate well to non-Americans.
