I tend to tell my grandmother, "I respect you, your friends, and your religion too much to disrespect you all with my presence," whenever she asks me to go to church with her. I have no intention of joining any church. I don't think the truth requires a church of any religion or denomination therein to find.

God is real and his son Jesus died for you so you could end up in heaven. Jesus is coming back very soon to take back his people to heaven. please repent im begging you. Don't say you havn't been warned if you read :)
@craqqer you'll die 'with' jesus but you'll never live to see him lol why try to "convert" people who don't believe in it? It's annoying, seriously lol
Think if people can respect other's religions and not try to shove their own down that other person's throat the world would be a little more better. Either way I can see your point.
I can touch air, collect air, blow air, compress air, and even burn air. You're honestly comparing God to air? Nope. Does not help me. Either way, nobody is stopping you from believing. Go ahead. Just don't tread on me.
@BIOToxC You can't see air? You've obviously never been to Los Angeles or Mexico City.
We know air exists. We can feel it when it moves and when it's noticeably hot and cold. We use it to burn things. It inflates our chests when we breathe. It creates pressure on everything around it. It lifts airplanes off the ground.
God, on the other hand, cannot be sensed in any way. I wonder why that is.
I can understand atheists' viewpoint but it strikes me as being just as stubborn or bigoted as being a theist. Agnosticism, ignosticism, or apatheism are much safer religious, philosophical, and spiritual viewpoint.
Stop biting your tongue. what gives them the right to stand on a soapbox and talk down to those of us who prefer reason to dogma ? I refuse to kowtow to convention and speak my mind freely when asked about my beliefs. It's the only way to gain equality.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like atheism in Japan is the norm. I know they have Shinto and Buddhism, but Buddhism is an atheistic religion and Shinto is so ancient that it is probably seen as a tradition more than a hardcore religion. What do you guys think about atheism in Japan? Another thing is that Jesus really wasn't a nice guy! Read Luke 19:27 if you have any doubts. There are other examples, but this is the best one.
@TheDavid2222 Yeah I went there and it was more of tradition rather than religion. It's more obvious in the later generations. I didn't think of Buddhism as an atheistic religion though, but the aspect of "I am my own God" does make sense now. I do feel like visiting Japan again. People there were fantastic. :)
Well Jesus was human, he wasn't in his purest of form.
Speaking as a Discordian, akjsfhakjhdaLHGKlkegnb'[eoiahno.
But seriously. I am totally behind you mate, mostly due to the large number of projectiles launched at you from Alabamians, but I live in Alabama myself and I must say that there are a large number of non-christians. The thing is that we are cowed by fear of Christian retribution because no matter what Jesus would do, the majority of Christians would prefer to ostracize rather than accept people of different beliefs.
I believe in karma! That's about it. There are elements in this world just picked up into religions like: "You shall not spite or hurt others or bad things'll happen to you".
This is preferably called justice.
About the karma: Yes it happens. Especially much around me lately.
Other than that I'm an atheist, but my parents think it's a stupid idea to be one in our society still. =(
I'm atheist and I spoke up in college, most of my colleagues are catholic and give me alot of trouble for not believing. It's a major problem because they preach love to everyone and yet turn on people who do not believe the same as them :\ I'd rather spend my college days away from such people thank you very much lol
Doesn't have to be "I believe in God" kind of thing. Us "Religious" folks always forget that, and so I apologize (on behalf of those people) for not being as tolerant and accepting of your existence as we can be.
@ScientificPions Atheism is not a religion. Religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a god(or gods)... -Oxford
It is not the lack of belief in a god.
Atheists have a lack of belief in the claim.
Theists believe in the claim.
The burden of proof lies on the person making the claim. Simply using semantics to turn "I dont believe in a god" into "I believe in no god" isn't going to cut it, as the believing/worshipping a god is the definition of a religion.
@DaFawky This is a way "Religious" people will accept, or I guess tolerate Atheism. Well, in most of my experience. For some it's the starting point of it all.
So, as I know that yours is the definitive explanation of what Atheism is, it will not cut it for some.
I see science as a sort of a religion simply because they believe in things that exists but are not or can not be proven (yet, but who knows). Belief in God is not present in science, but the aspect of "believing" is still present. :S
@ScientificPions by they do you mean atheists or scientists? atheists don't follow a code of what to believe in within science.. I've noticed both theists and atheists who believe in the same exact scientific theories, or maybe even atheists who don't believe in those things..
Scientists though, base beliefs on theories provided by facts, (although I guess conclusions to some theories can be made through over-analyzing or misunderstanding what the facts mean)
@DaFawky Sorry for the misunderstanding. By "they" I meant the scientists.
I'm not saying Science is an actual religion, I am saying... it acts in a similar way in some aspects. Take for example Gravity.
It is proven that it exists, but can we clearly see it? Can we physically touch it? Scientists believe that it exists, yet it cannot be seen. It's the same thing for Catholicism. The Bible has evidence of God's existence, but no one has physically seen him/her yet. But remember human is flawed.
@DaFawky Ok so I'll try and compose again. I'm pretty sure I said Catholicism, not the whole population of the world. We're different people, with different beliefs that suit us. Faith is a powerful thing an individual can have, so I'm sorry if I am a believer. But that's not the point. The point is, Atheists exists, and religious people should accept this fact, like how they accept that other religions exists. From my experience atheists are the most tolerant people I've met. :)
@ScientificPions science is not "sort of" like religion in any way shape or form. Science uses evidence and facts and religion does not. Believing in science is not the same thing as beliving in religion for that reason. Science has consistently proven itself to be reliable. Religion has not.
@TheDavid2222 It is. It is not a religion, I'm saying it acts in some way. Take for example, Gravity.
It is "proven" that it exists, but can we clearly see it? Can we physically touch it? Scientists believe that it exists, yet it cannot be seen. Another one... the missing link.
It's the same thing for Catholicism. The Bible has evidence of God's existence, but no one has physically seen God yet. But I believe.
But you know human is flawed, and so are its creations so we're either wrong or right.
Watch other Japan earthquake videos on youtube and you'll notice religious fanatics saying this is God's punishment towards Japan. Fuck you and your religion if you can't even feel compassion and sympathy for other dying men, women, children and newborns.
@morpheus9494 I believe that is called "agnosticism".
Also, just contemplate about your relationship with God, or with whoever you believe in. That is always a hard spot to be in you know being in that sort of dilemma. Some people find their way back to God, some stops believing, but at least there is clarity in their hearts and minds.
I have no problems with Athiest as long as they dont have a problem with relegious people. I am a Budhhist, but it irratates me when Athiest criticize Religions. Its just an asshole move. Your questioning a beleif of someone. Let them beleive what they want. Do I beleive in God? Yes, but do I folow God? No. The rules and guidelines and the whole ten commandments things is taking away Mans nature. Nearly all 10 commandments opposites is what makes us Human
@longsolid9 True. You know, I've never thought of atheism in this way. The only reason I became one was in rush when a friend told me about some kind of benfits about it. I was an agnostic person before that. I think I'll revert back to that and stay.
Besides, Christianity has to be the most boring religion I've ever heard of. This is coming from a guy that grew up in a Christian society with a partly Christian mother. When I read about e.g Buddhism it responds better to my ways of living.
@Scourgeandmephiles93 Ahh yes, Agnostics. They are very fair people, Is there a god? Or isnt there? If so, I dont care. if there isnt, I still dont care. Christianity's beleifs are a bit harsh in my POV, but the story's and the history of it is interesting. Thousands of Christians, burnt alive and eaten by lions... because of the Romans. interesting history. I just dislike the Athiest who will not give a shit about your ideas. Its just a beleif, I'm not doing anything harmful to the enviroment
@longsolid9 the history is ok. The execution however sucks. I don't know how religious places (temples) in Buddhism work. Christianity only have stained and boring churches.
I really don't know about the God thing. It's probably better to believe in a life after death than nothingness.
I'm particulary rooting for the rebirth principal in Hinduism. Your spirit will be reborn into another being.
I support this ideology, hands down. think it was connected to karma which anyody will encounter.
@TheThaipoo : This idea of Christianity under persecution cracks me up. Christianity is one of the most mainstream and accepted religions on earth and has in fact been the cause of more persecution that it has ever received.
@GameShowGuy Wrong. During the time of the Empire of Rome far before the Byzantium Empire which made Christianity its main relegion, the Romans had no trouble with Christianity spreading from Paul, at 1st. Then of Course Jesus of Nazareth came. The Romans still didnt care. Jesus was becoming TOO big and the Romans killed/crucified Jesus thinking he was trying to overthrow them. Later Christ's Apostles spread the Word. From story, Jesus donated his own life for the survival of the world. strange
I love Ricky Gervais, I mention him in my last video. I realy don't care what his beliefs are I just enjoy his podcast with Carl P. I am not going to say one way or the other but I don't want to get punched in the face or kicked in the groin or stoned or FITA. LOL.
LOL, how on earth did I not stumble by your channel until now?
Anyways, thank you for the video sir (Is it alright if I call you Victor?). Though, I do believe this is going to get a lot of negative responses. I'm a closet Atheist myself (for the most part), but that's simply because the reaction most religious people have towards Atheism is shock and awe. My bible thumping family would disown me if they knew.
I could go on with this, but alas, character limit. Subscribed, thanks again.
OK Victor I may say do to your respect well one of my sister's best friend is a Jew, I'll say its OK to have free will and thank goodness that you and me live in a free world where anyone could practice their religion of choice !
the trouble is victor, you can't say god if your athiest, otherwise your just making another religous group out of athiesm, but its those who go around promoting the dark forces while claiming thier athiest is what i can't understand and believe me cause i believe god not because of religion itself but because of the sense of a spritiual force in us all and the fact that lots of crazy things happen in this world that mankind can't explain, let alone religious proghets to dare jump at such things
Congrats. Very good response. Maybe there should be a follow up with phylosophical discussions about gods, religions, superstitions, spirits, hell, heaven, etc. Do you want a very provocative topic? Questions about the virginity of the "virgin" Mary, from the secular viewpoint. But you may get lots of hate mail and the promise hell. Maybe we leave the virgin alone. She is a revered icon for most christians.
Victor-san, arigato for choosing my comment on Ken-san's channel. While I'm really happy to win, as a fellow atheist I'm afraid I won't remember the happiness after I die like everyone else in the book. I've always believed life is like being trapped in a giant casino where its hard to motivate yourself to play because the more you win the more you have to lose when you exit. Solipsism might even be better than atheism; the only thing that exists is our own mind. Richard Dawkins is my hero
the individual pleasure of pissing others off is always accomplished when the theme is religion or politics or sports.. this type of videos are pure self-brain-masturbating
Mmkay first off, lived in Alabama for 14 years, they need to leave and explore the world, seriously. I agree with you 100% on this video, even if I am Christian haha
Funny though, I've never heard of an "in the closet" atheist. However, I wouldn't, would I? Heh.
My boyfriend's atheist though and devoted to it. He thinks religion is false..... and I'd have it no other way. Though I'm Christian, most other christians are hypocritical and annoying quite frankly.
I'm a stand up comedian and a youtuber... (getting started) From where I sit atheists are not silent or in the closet. Ricky Gervais is one of many comics to find themselves laughing at the religious. No religion takes it as much as Christianity from where I sit but that could be because that is the primary religion in the States. Maybe in Japan comics are saying, "whats with these stupid ass Buddhist mother fuckers? Peaceful fagots!" LOL is that funny? What could we say about Islam and Mohamed?
The vocal atheist are really loud... come to think of it that's a rather stupid observation. All loud people are loud. My point is I'm betting there a lot more atheists out there but they just don't want to admit it.
@Gimmeabreakman I think that may be part of the issue driving stereotyping atheism; most "loud atheists" directly attack other beliefs, and they are the only ones to be heard from. So the only thing most have to go from is Atheists make fun of your religion and beliefs, and in turn your intelligence. As for "closeted" atheists, who wants to be clumped in with a stereotypically belittling group, when only in entertainment is there a benefit at all? Just my thoughts on it.

@Gimmeabreakman : Most people have a really loose definition of how they relate to religion. Over a billion people identify themselves as Catholics for instance, but in some regions (forgot the source, but I wouldn't be surprised if this were consistent throughout the developed world) only 39% of self professed Catholics go to mass on a weekly basis; something their religion says is a mortal sin. More than not wanting to admit it, I think many people are socially corned into religion.
@Gimmeabreakman I'm a loud atheist and even I in many cases keep my mouth shut. We live our lives surrounded by Christians. We realize they're not all bad. Many of them say things like "I'll pray for you." Or "God Bless You." and we realize that they have no idea that they're actually being rude. They mean well and there are just times when you have to nod politely and swallow it.
@scratchmybackerman I do not think so. In Japan is mostly Shinto which takes from Buddhism and other religions. Actually shinto makes lots of sense. You can be Christian or muslim and practice Shinto, I think, buy I confess my utter ignorance. The little I know I learned from japanese friends.
@scratchmybackerman no religion takes it much as christianity? well if you take a look at the FBI's Hate Crime statistics of 2009, out of 1,575 victims of an anti-religious hate crime, 71.9% were Jewish, 8.4% were Islamic, 3.7% were Catholic, and 2.7% were anti-protestant... so by far I think jews have it the worst!
I get what you mean by saying the majority religion of a country will be more likely to get critisized, but to compare buddhists to... christians... is a whole different story lol
I don't think it matters whether or not athiests decide to speak out or not. Just look at Islam. They have hordes of people who don't hide it but the radical minority made them an easy target for fear and hatred in america. Athiests don't have any agenda in general (I mean I guess some of them find athiest church like places to congregate) so what's it matter? As long as there is freedom of religion in the country you live in I see no reason to care.
I understand your frustration with the Gov. I have a lot of time to think while driving and I have reached the same conclusion as you. A God who abandons his creations and expects belief based on faith alone makes no sense. But religion does benefit society for the most part. So why bother to argue the point? Because sooner or later some religious fanatic decides that his faith is the only true faith and all others should convert or die. This is not a prediction. It is history.
My point is that you could have said what you had to say in less than a minute. You kind of ramble on. I have nothing against your opinion. Just try to be more concise, that's all.
LOL! OK, man. I've been doing this for 4 years but I'll now change my whole style just for you! :) In fact it would have been easier to yell out the window. Life is not about saving time, hoozy.
Maybe I should have told this guy to give me a buzzcut.
@fightprejudice ...and change the channel I did. All I wanted to do is offer the guy was a little constructive criticism. Didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings. When making a reasoned argument, half the battle is getting your point across with as little superfluousness as possible. It may win him more viewers in the future.
Maybe because there is little to no evidence to back up anything in the bible... except faith. Faith is good, of course. But I find it hard to believe in the bible personally.
It's a shame how many Christians behave irresponsibly and don't follow their own beliefs in regards to how they treat people of different religions. I, myself, am a Christian, but I honestly can't blame athiests for looking at us like we're morons, considering how many Christians let their beliefs fly out the window and act out hatefully because they simply lose their temper over someone disagreeing with them. I wish more people would try to at least be a good witness.
Victor, don't let this guy get to you, and don't think he's representative of America or even the South as a whole. Yes, some Christian Americans will identify with what he's saying, but far more of all faiths just want to survive and thrive alongside their fellow Americans of all stripes. That's what America is about; coming together and lifting up, not dividing and stamping down. That the governor would choose the celebration of King to make such divisive comments is especially ironic.
The irony is, that Alabama actually has some of the biggest brains in the country there working at NASA in Huntsville. They have a very active Free Thinker community and I can only imagine how mortified they must all be.....that such a backwater hillbilly is their governor. Apparently he doesn't realize that NASA spends a shit ton of money in his state, and neither do the voters.
@Rokkiteer - Nice troll. By saying "can it include the 'belief' in evolutionism" you have essentially made the claim that evolution is highly debatable when it isn't. Evolution is not a belief as beliefs lack evidence. Evolution, in whole or in part, is regarded as undeniable fact in academic circles. This conclusion is based upon mountains of verified supporting evidence. If your complaint is the usage of the term "theory", then try and keep in mind that "gravity" is "just a theory" as well.
@ixamraxi I don't want to turn this into a discussion.
For me, believing in god is as natural and obvious as gravity. And i've never seen this evidence, so i think that was a fair question. I apologize if i was rude to you or anyone else.
Maybe if i rephrased the question: is an atheist simply a non-believer or someone who doesn't believe in any god or other such divine entity?
@Rokkiteer - I am sure your experiences are important to you, but they are meaningless to anyone else. I don't doubt God seems natural and obvious to you, but your personal experiences are not the yardstick we use to measure our own experiences. If you have never seen the evidence for evolution it suggests a lack of effort and education on your part, not a failure of the sciences. Atheism means without belief, thus both claims ("there is a god" and "there is no god") are beliefs that we lack.
Trust me, no one has forgotten atheists exist. Most of the popular YTubers are actually atheist or at least agnostic. All the people I know who are ashamed or bite their tongue are actually theists. I know I do. I am a christian and have been my whole life, and I am ashamed to say it to anyone. Every time I have told an atheist I believe, they go "Oh, and I thought you were smart" or some smart shit like that and go off on how uneducated I am and how everything I believe in is wrong. I know
(cont) more atheists than anything else, and they all are incredibly rude and out about their beliefs. Everyone I know who is a theist is actually very polite about other people's beliefs and let everyone do their own thing. I was never anxious around atheists like I am now... And it isn't because I am disturbed by your beliefs, it's because I have been faced with so much meanness. So don't think you're rare. In religious beliefs, disbelief is the third largest group in the world.
@mywingsareyours Yeah. Atheists like that are people I dislike for that very reason. They turn self righteous and assholish on you the moment they find out you believe in God. Not that I do, but I totally agree with you.
@mywingsareyours whatever man. You try running for president as an atheist in America and see just how that flies. I've had friends that have come out and said they were atheists to their friends, to which the response was "So you worship the devil?" Atheists are an extremely marginalized and generally misunderstood group. But that's definitely changing. It does depend to a certain extent on where you live though. Atheists in New England are better off than those in Alabama.
@mywingsareyours your post is so true its not even funny.. so im just gonna re-post it so people will see even when they watch this video now. I have experienced something like you.. and i know how frustrating it is being looked down constantly because i have a belief.
A lot of people have beliefs based on where they were brought up. It's difficult to reconcile the concept of a universal entity favoring any localized worldview, especially when time and politics intervene in the formation and distribution of religion.
I want to add that having faith doesn't keep you from seeing the world objectively or automatically makes you not believe in gravity or whatever. There are plenty of religious people who believe in evolution and change their opinions given scientific evidence.
Also, religious people, quit trying to pray for atheists to "find the truth". It makes you look condescending and shames us sane theists even more.
Both sides are prone to condescension. It's human nature to think you know what's right.
I honestly think that politicians should be obliged to keep their religion on the down low. There's really no reason to go around saying what religion you are since people are automatically going to vote for a Christian if they are one too if that Christian is running against, say, a Jewish or Buddhist politician. And I say that as a Christian knowing how people from my faith can be. Your faith doesn't effect your ability to run (or SHOULDN'T anyway, beyond personal inspiration).
@SasukeVamp Why does is make you sad? Be happy for me, I am free of the oppression of religion. My mind is free to think, question, accept or reject, analyze, explore, discern, and continuosly look for what is right and for the truth. Should I be sad for you who have succumbed to superstition? God bless!
The irony is I just finished watching a Ricky Gervais stand-up special before watching this video. :P I really should do a video like this as well. ^^; Some of my family still doesn't know my standing... You've got a lot of guts!
@TheKankeinaiFactor Hope you succeed in "coming out of the closet" about your atheism. I don't say that because you're an atheist, and I'm an atheist. I say that because I don't like it when someone feels afraid to be honest about who they are. I say, prepare yourself to be emotionally detached. Prepare for the worst reaction imaginable to you, and then tell them. It's best to show yourself fully in this one lifetime. Don't waste another one of your valuable seconds not showing who you are.
Christians are the most crazy i think. they're always right. you're always wrong. other religions are always wrong. but! something i learned in my mythology class, the world before jesus,(omg there was a world before him?!) believed in greek mythology. yeah, that's right. zeus, athena, hades, ect were the gods. people only picked up christianity because it promised eternal happiness, opposed to greek mythology when you just went to hades and that was that.
@DekuGirlDesu I say it's not necessarily "Christians". I say it's every human being who has traits like that. Traits like you mentioned. "You're wrong, I'm right. That's that."
A lot of these people (majority of humanity) self identify with their beliefs and opinions. And since they have emotional attachments to their "self" (survival, success, love, hate, ridicule...), they then have an emotional attachment to their ENTIRE belief system.
I see the mistake being made, where people identify themselves based on their views, opinions, and beliefs. When you really THINK about it, your views, opinions and beliefs have absolutely NOTHING to do with who you are.
Here's WHY: If people view the world logically, and try to understand reality, what they will find is information they didn't CHOOSE, but what they GATHERED. What you gather is not who you are. You are simply the person who found it.
The reason why people have such different views and beliefs of what is within our world, and reality, is because they don't search reality, and they don't search logically. They flip through ideas and decide to CHOOSE, not search, but choose information, and they do it based on what feels comforting.
Try to argue against THAT. And of course you're going to have major denial, closed mindedness, and automatic "You're wrong, I'm right".
@DekuGirlDesu Wow. I do not understand how you could possible get that from what I wrote... I was half way agreeing with how you see it, and adding to it, by saying that it's not just Christians that have closed minds, but a lot of ordinary, even non-religious people do. You didn't offend me at all.
@agentm83 From what I've seen. Yes, he's intolerant, but what i mostly noticed is that he is not smart when it comes to making points. He does nothing but speak to the people who are already on "his side", which is fucking easy, since everyone who's on "a side" already agrees, therefore he has to make no effort in making true points.
He also seems to bring nothing to the table. He has no substance, except that he's a christian.
@AbnoCreations Thanks for that. I'm Canadian, so I don't usually follow Governorship races in the US particularly closely. Up here in my province of BC, both the governing party and the opposition party are in leadership races, so it's interesting times up here to be sure.
@AbnoCreations Cause I thought it was interesting. I haven't heard much about Governor Bentley except for the whole Christian thing. So that's more info on him than I would have had otherwise.
I was baptised and raised catholic, went to a convent school, taught by a nun, was an altar server but I still turned out an atheist :P Religion is simply something that doesn't suit everyone, that doesn't mean that we're "evil" or "damned", we're regular people just like the religious and were really not all bad! I respect those who believe as that is your own personal choice and I don't have the right to question that, please do the same for us :D
Interesting. When humans take the next evolutionary leap, maybe these frivolous differences will dissipate. Unfortunately neither of us shall live to see this transpire. :(
I did my share of talking to christians - in my opinion some were crazy(really few though) - and few could not believe how silly i am not to believe(^^) but believers most are cool with it. and thats what I like about germany. The people let you be as you are. If you re a star you can walk to the store shopping and most wont bother/recognize you xD
This makes me think of The movie ' Religilous ' by Bill Maher fantastic movie, I think Atheists are a greater minority then hispanics, or African american people [ in the US ] atleast. It's a staggering statistic he mentions in the movie, and Atheists really should come out of the closet so to say more.
Technically, I am a religious atheist, as Nichiren Buddhism is based on life itself as being Buddha. There is no Deity in our system of belief. Yes, you must stand up! In Islamic 'law', anyone who is born into a Muslim family cannot switch religions, or disbelieve. That crime equals the death sentence. Amazing ain't it.
As a former atheist living in a secular country, the Netherlands, which is in Europe, secularism is the norm even though there still many people calling themselves christians.
I have no problem with atheists themselves, i laud you even for not being obnoxious like many ardent anti-theists are, i have a problem with their behaviour if it is less than commendable.
But the same holds for christians and other humans as well.
And seriously, what an oaf that governor is, obnoxious and irritating.
I think part of the problem is that there are a lot of theists that don't really know much about their own faith. I know of theists who are very intelligent, thoughtful and have very logical reasons for choosing their faith. Then there's the crazy ones. There's atheists who have considered their position and then there's those who did so because they're just not interested. Atheists, theists, there's bad apples on all sides and it's part of human nature to split up and fight each other.
I am an Atheist, married to a Catholic. We are not monsters, freaks or whatever. I love my family, my friends and all. What I find monstrous is the religious people who need to bully and wumper and try to force us to see their gods. Ultimately, we'd all get along if we didn't have religious dogma telling us what to eat, who can be friends, and who can even married whoever they want.
I believe in God because it's comforting having a heaven to go to when I die and see my loved ones who went there before me and those who arrive after me so we could all be together again. I also like having a Jesus because he is a good role model and someone I can try to follow and be like XD
"Question with boldness even the existence of a God.. because, if there is one, he must approve more of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear."
I believe in God, and I completely agree with that statement.
Atheists are just as bad. They continuously mock people of faith by claiming that there is no God, but in turn they claim that those of faith mock them. Humans are all the same. Mocking each other about such petty things such as race, ethnicity, religion, or political stand point. Atheists try to stand out like they are the smarts of it all, when in reality people of faith have done a lot for society and they aren't stupid. Religions have become how they are because of humans, so blame humanity.
@bassbacke I guess all religions begin as a cult at one point in their life, but I wouldn't say that not believing in god is a cult. Hmm, I think it's more of an evolutionary thing, where people begin to understand that with enough scientific research you can pretty much do whatever you please given enough time.
@ExploringBeyond Of course people can live meaningful lifes and be decent people without a theist religion or cult but it's harder since you have to think for youself. I sure know. Science has never tried to answer everything. Religions fill those gaps and do not require you to make up your own mind about such things. It's much harder to write your own set of world views and rules than to accept one that is accpted by many people around you.
@CurrentlyDisconected That's just propaganda. :) Being agnostic means you don't believe the (non-)existence of god(s) can be proven. What you make of that is up to you.
@EliasCrowe If you think they are funny, otherwise, your just being ignorant. Atheism is simply a lack of belief in a god. Only ignorance can make so much more out of that as to find it funny. You do yourself a disservice with your comment.
Second, preaching doesnt make something a religion, otherwise marketing is a religion, and sports is a religion.
@waltermh111 - i.e. If I disagree with you.. no matter what I say.. you're going to say that I'm ignorant or can't say anything intelligent. <- this is how most RELIGIOUS people think.
I tend to tell my grandmother, "I respect you, your friends, and your religion too much to disrespect you all with my presence," whenever she asks me to go to church with her. I have no intention of joining any church. I don't think the truth requires a church of any religion or denomination therein to find.

TheDavid2222 11 months ago
@TheDavid2222 Yeah I went there and it was more of tradition rather than religion. It's more obvious in the later generations. I didn't think of Buddhism as an atheistic religion though, but the aspect of "I am my own God" does make sense now. I do feel like visiting Japan again. People there were fantastic. :)

Clara6661 11 months ago
Silly people, Atheism is a religion.
It believes.
Doesn't have to be "I believe in God" kind of thing. Us "Religious" folks always forget that, and so I apologize (on behalf of those people) for not being as tolerant and accepting of your existence as we can be.
ScientificPions 11 months ago
@ScientificPions Atheism is not a religion. Religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a god(or gods)... -Oxford
It is not the lack of belief in a god.
Atheists have a lack of belief in the claim.
Theists believe in the claim.
The burden of proof lies on the person making the claim. Simply using semantics to turn "I dont believe in a god" into "I believe in no god" isn't going to cut it, as the believing/worshipping a god is the definition of a religion.
DaFawky 11 months ago
@DaFawky This is a way "Religious" people will accept, or I guess tolerate Atheism. Well, in most of my experience. For some it's the starting point of it all.
So, as I know that yours is the definitive explanation of what Atheism is, it will not cut it for some.
I see science as a sort of a religion simply because they believe in things that exists but are not or can not be proven (yet, but who knows). Belief in God is not present in science, but the aspect of "believing" is still present. :S
ScientificPions 11 months ago
@ScientificPions by they do you mean atheists or scientists? atheists don't follow a code of what to believe in within science.. I've noticed both theists and atheists who believe in the same exact scientific theories, or maybe even atheists who don't believe in those things..
Scientists though, base beliefs on theories provided by facts, (although I guess conclusions to some theories can be made through over-analyzing or misunderstanding what the facts mean)
DaFawky 11 months ago
@DaFawky Sorry for the misunderstanding. By "they" I meant the scientists.
I'm not saying Science is an actual religion, I am saying... it acts in a similar way in some aspects. Take for example Gravity.
It is proven that it exists, but can we clearly see it? Can we physically touch it? Scientists believe that it exists, yet it cannot be seen. It's the same thing for Catholicism. The Bible has evidence of God's existence, but no one has physically seen him/her yet. But remember human is flawed.
ScientificPions 11 months ago
@ScientificPions The bible has no evidence of god's existence, lol it's completely based on faith, that's the point of the bible.
DaFawky 11 months ago
@DaFawky FFFUUU did you receive my reply? jfdslfsajfdahfjaksd
ScientificPions 11 months ago
@DaFawky Ok so I'll try and compose again. I'm pretty sure I said Catholicism, not the whole population of the world. We're different people, with different beliefs that suit us. Faith is a powerful thing an individual can have, so I'm sorry if I am a believer. But that's not the point. The point is, Atheists exists, and religious people should accept this fact, like how they accept that other religions exists. From my experience atheists are the most tolerant people I've met. :)
ScientificPions 11 months ago
@ScientificPions science is not "sort of" like religion in any way shape or form. Science uses evidence and facts and religion does not. Believing in science is not the same thing as beliving in religion for that reason. Science has consistently proven itself to be reliable. Religion has not.
TheDavid2222 11 months ago
@TheDavid2222 It is. It is not a religion, I'm saying it acts in some way. Take for example, Gravity.
It is "proven" that it exists, but can we clearly see it? Can we physically touch it? Scientists believe that it exists, yet it cannot be seen. Another one... the missing link.
It's the same thing for Catholicism. The Bible has evidence of God's existence, but no one has physically seen God yet. But I believe.
But you know human is flawed, and so are its creations so we're either wrong or right.

Nearly all 10 commandments opposites is what makes us Human
longsolid9 11 months ago
@longsolid9 True. You know, I've never thought of atheism in this way. The only reason I became one was in rush when a friend told me about some kind of benfits about it. I was an agnostic person before that. I think I'll revert back to that and stay.
Besides, Christianity has to be the most boring religion I've ever heard of. This is coming from a guy that grew up in a Christian society with a partly Christian mother. When I read about e.g Buddhism it responds better to my ways of living.
Scourgeandmephiles93 11 months ago
@Scourgeandmephiles93 Ahh yes, Agnostics. They are very fair people, Is there a god? Or isnt there? If so, I dont care. if there isnt, I still dont care. Christianity's beleifs are a bit harsh in my POV, but the story's and the history of it is interesting. Thousands of Christians, burnt alive and eaten by lions... because of the Romans. interesting history. I just dislike the Athiest who will not give a shit about your ideas. Its just a beleif, I'm not doing anything harmful to the enviroment
longsolid9 11 months ago

HadesJanitor 1 year ago
Thank you for speaking up, Victor.
Christianity states that:
- God was so upset with our sin that he was willing to send us to hell.
- Jesus was God's son.
- The crucifixion of Jesus saved us.
So, God was upset with us for sinning, but the solution was for us to kill his son. This absurd conundrum is largely why I am no longer a Christian.
GameShowGuy 1 year ago
@GameShowGuy Wrong. During the time of the Empire of Rome far before the Byzantium Empire which made Christianity its main relegion, the Romans had no trouble with Christianity spreading from Paul, at 1st. Then of Course Jesus of Nazareth came. The Romans still didnt care. Jesus was becoming TOO big and the Romans killed/crucified Jesus thinking he was trying to overthrow them. Later Christ's Apostles spread the Word. From story, Jesus donated his own life for the survival of the world. strange

@Gimmeabreakman I think that may be part of the issue driving stereotyping atheism; most "loud atheists" directly attack other beliefs, and they are the only ones to be heard from.

@scratchmybackerman I do not think so. In Japan is mostly Shinto which takes from Buddhism and other religions. Actually shinto makes lots of sense. You can be Christian or muslim and practice Shinto, I think, buy I confess my utter ignorance. The little I know I learned from japanese friends.
fightprejudice 1 year ago

I understand your frustration with the Gov. I have a lot of time to think while driving and I have reached the same conclusion as you. A God who abandons his creations and expects belief based on faith alone makes no sense. But religion does benefit society for the most part. So why bother to argue the point? Because sooner or later some religious fanatic decides that his faith is the only true faith and all others should convert or die. This is not a prediction. It is history.

Is an atheist a person who doesn't believe in anything or can it include the belief in evolutionism?
Rokkiteer 1 year ago
@Rokkiteer - Nice troll. By saying "can it include the 'belief' in evolutionism" you have essentially made the claim that evolution is highly debatable when it isn't. Evolution is not a belief as beliefs lack evidence. Evolution, in whole or in part, is regarded as undeniable fact in academic circles. This conclusion is based upon mountains of verified supporting evidence. If your complaint is the usage of the term "theory", then try and keep in mind that "gravity" is "just a theory" as well.
ixamraxi 1 year ago
@ixamraxi I don't want to turn this into a discussion.
For me, believing in god is as natural and obvious as gravity. And i've never seen this evidence, so i think that was a fair question. I apologize if i was rude to you or anyone else.
Maybe if i rephrased the question: is an atheist simply a non-believer or someone who doesn't believe in any god or other such divine entity?
Rokkiteer 1 year ago
@Rokkiteer - I am sure your experiences are important to you, but they are meaningless to anyone else. I don't doubt God seems natural and obvious to you, but your personal experiences are not the yardstick we use to measure our own experiences. If you have never seen the evidence for evolution it suggests a lack of effort and education on your part, not a failure of the sciences. Atheism means without belief, thus both claims ("there is a god" and "there is no god") are beliefs that we lack.

@mywingsareyours whatever man. You try running for president as an atheist in America and see just how that flies. @mywingsareyours your post is so true its not even funny.. so im just gonna re-post it so people will see even when they watch this video now. I have experienced something like you.. and i know how frustrating it is being looked down constantly because i have a belief.
Maha87 3 months ago
A lot of people have beliefs based on where they were brought up. It's difficult to reconcile the concept of a universal entity favoring any localized worldview, especially when time and politics intervene in the formation and distribution of religion.

Yep, this video made me the most uncomfortable. Maybe avoid this topic in the future?
dreamchaser171 1 year ago
Agnostic. It's the most logical answer. From my standpoint, of course.
BETonthisHORSE 1 year ago
I want to add that having faith doesn't keep you from seeing the world objectively or automatically makes you not believe in gravity or whatever. There are plenty of religious people who believe in evolution and change their opinions given scientific evidence.
Also, religious people, quit trying to pray for atheists to "find the truth". It makes you look condescending and shames us sane theists even more.
Both sides are prone to condescension. It's human nature to think you know what's right.
Kryyptehk 1 year ago
I honestly think that politicians should be obliged to keep their religion on the down low. There's really no reason to go around saying what religion you are since people are automatically going to vote for a Christian if they are one too if that Christian is running against, say, a Jewish or Buddhist politician. And I say that as a Christian knowing how people from my faith can be. Your faith doesn't effect your ability to run (or SHOULDN'T anyway, beyond personal inspiration).
Kryyptehk 1 year ago

DekuGirlDesu 1 year ago
@DekuGirlDesu I say it's not necessarily "Christians". I say it's every human being who has traits like that. Traits like you mentioned. "You're wrong, I'm right. That's that."
A lot of these people (majority of humanity) self identify with their beliefs and opinions. And since they have emotional attachments to their "self" (survival, success, love, hate, ridicule...), they then have an emotional attachment to their ENTIRE belief system.
AbnoCreations 1 year ago
@DekuGirlDesu Cont...
AbnoCreations 1 year ago
@DekuGirlDesu Cont..

@AbnoCreations my god did i offend you or something? sssorry!
DekuGirlDesu 1 year ago
@DekuGirlDesu Wow. I do not understand how you could possible get that from what I wrote... I was half way agreeing with how you see it, and adding to it, by saying that it's not just Christians that have closed minds, but a lot of ordinary, even non-religious people do. You didn't offend me at all.

Thumbs up!
Gimmeabreakman 1 year ago
@agentm83 From what I've seen. Yes, he's intolerant, but what i mostly noticed is that he is not smart when it comes to making points. He does nothing but speak to the people who are already on "his side", which is fucking easy, since everyone who's on "a side" already agrees, therefore he has to make no effort in making true points.
He also seems to bring nothing to the table. He has no substance, except that he's a christian.

@AbnoCreations
Who is a christian?
Gimmeabreakman 1 year ago
@AbnoCreations Thanks for that. I'm Canadian, so I don't usually follow Governorship races in the US particularly closely. Up here in my province of BC, both the governing party and the opposition party are in leadership races, so it's interesting times up here to be sure.
agentm83 1 year ago
@agentm83 Yeah.
Btw, why did you say, "Thanks for that"?
AbnoCreations 1 year ago
@AbnoCreations Cause I thought it was interesting. I haven't heard much about Governor Bentley except for the whole Christian thing. So that's more info on him than I would have had otherwise.

I'm an athiest as well. I just simply can't understand why you would believe such ridiculous things. .-.

It's a staggering statistic he mentions in the movie, and Atheists really should come out of the closet so to say more.
cr0ssingpath5 1 year ago
Technically, I am a religious atheist, as Nichiren Buddhism is based on life itself as being Buddha. There is no Deity in our system of belief. Yes, you must stand up! In Islamic 'law', anyone who is born into a Muslim family cannot switch religions, or disbelieve. That crime equals the death sentence. Amazing ain't it.
TubaBuddha 1 year ago
As a former atheist living in a secular country, the Netherlands, which is in Europe, secularism is the norm even though there still many people calling themselves christians.
I have no problem with atheists themselves, i laud you even for not being obnoxious like many ardent anti-theists are, i have a problem with their behaviour if it is less than commendable.
But the same holds for christians and other humans as well.
And seriously, what an oaf that governor is, obnoxious and irritating.
Barachem 1 year ago

Somebody once said,
"Question with boldness even the existence of a God.. because, if there is one, he must approve more of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear."
I believe in God, and I completely agree with that statement.
EliasCrowe 1 year ago
Atheists are just as bad. They continuously mock people of faith by claiming that there is no God, but in turn they claim that those of faith mock them. Humans are all the same. Mocking each other about such petty things such as race, ethnicity, religion, or political stand point. Atheists try to stand out like they are the smarts of it all, when in reality people of faith have done a lot for society and they aren't stupid. Religions have become how they are because of humans, so blame humanity.

@ExploringBeyond So you're starting a new religion or is it just a cult?
bassbacke 1 year ago
@bassbacke I guess all religions begin as a cult at one point in their life, but I wouldn't say that not believing in god is a cult. Hmm, I think it's more of an evolutionary thing, where people begin to understand that with enough scientific research you can pretty much do whatever you please given enough time.
ExploringBeyond 1 year ago
@ExploringBeyond Of course people can live meaningful lifes and be decent people without a theist religion or cult but it's harder since you have to think for youself. I sure know. Science has never tried to answer everything. Religions fill those gaps and do not require you to make up your own mind about such things. It's much harder to write your own set of world views and rules than to accept one that is accpted by many people around you.

The governor's quote reminds me of that billboard from Idiocracy:

@EliasCrowe Religion is even more funny. I personally prefer being agnostic. Keep me out of it all. Thanks.
bassbacke 1 year ago
@bassbacke . It's all funny. People do well enough with "(I think therefore) I am."
"I am an Atheist"
"I am a Christian"
"I am agnostic"
"I am a Muslim"
"I am a Thelemite"
All of these are religions to me. And all of them funny.
EliasCrowe 1 year ago
@EliasCrowe
Atheism is not a religion. But now I must google Thelemite.
Gimmeaflakeman 1 year ago
@Gimmeaflakeman I understand .. but to me it seems -like- it is a religion. primarily because I've had several Atheists preach to convert me. ;)
EliasCrowe 1 year ago
@EliasCrowe If you think they are funny, otherwise, your just being ignorant. Atheism is simply a lack of belief in a god. Only ignorance can make so much more out of that as to find it funny. You do yourself a disservice with your comment.
Second, preaching doesnt make something a religion, otherwise marketing is a religion, and sports is a religion.
Again, ignorance, stop embarassing yourself.
