bastard RS4 V8? another comment from someone, who, apparently, has never driven one of them. the V10 only makes the car a lot heavier, making it handle worse. on the race track, the V10 may be the better choice, giving it a better acceleration and top speed - but 4.4 seconds from 0-100km/h (V8) and 100kilogramm less compared to the V10 is fair enough for public streets. besides that, the V8 sounds much better...

well I say bastard because it should had stayed in the RS4 (and I think S5) not getting in the league of a more exotic engine (R8 is supposed to be an exotic so I don't see why it should even go with a more common RS V8 being a "purist" myself) But it is NOT a bastard in its conception as I explained

yes, i drove both the R8 V8 and the RS4. well, youre right, i also like the old biturbo V6 (not inline!) more! i bought one 2 years ago with 145k km on it and i am really happy with it!

well, i personally think you should put better arguments up - i mean, of course its your opinion and i respect it - but saying that the RS4 engine (only a few thousand RS4s have been built) is not exotic and bastard for being put into the R8 lacks is a bit one sided.

ya that's quite informative, (ya sorry it was not an inline my bad) your opinion is good too, the RS4 is a little wonder of engineering and to keep the costs down I can consider that wasn't a so dumb decision from audi's officials to put it in there but I would have waited a bit the V10 to follow the lead of the lemans quattro its why I feel uncertain about the V8 of the "little" RS4, its why even if its "heavier" or "harder in steer, brake or anyway" that I longly prefer the 5.2

moreover, do you really think audi puts money and effort into constructing a new V8 engine for the R8 that differs from the one used in the RS4 if the engine in the RS4 is just as perfect as it is? it is probably one of the most efficient and powerful (not supercharged-) V8 engines in the world. and it is exclusive...as i said, only a few thousand have been built so far. any porsche engine is far more "common".

Sorry, but even this info is not correct! All Audi gasoline engine above 3.2l are developed in Neckarsulm/Germany. But yes: The V10 is no Lambo engine but a S6 & S8 V10 with exceeded engine speed.

Audi S6 and S8 have Lambos 5.2 V10 Engine... Audi RS6 V10 5.0 TFSI( Bi.Turbo) 580Hp all new Audi engine.... New Audi R8 V10 5.2 535 Hp same Engine like in Lambo LP560 but with less power, and yes Audi OWN Lambo since 1998. RS 4 EVER!!!!

I agree with those who expect a Lambo V10 inside the Audi´s body... having driven a Gallardo just a few weeks ago and still bearing that matchless, aggressive sound in mind, especially while downshifting, there can be nothing else accelerating this convertible than an engine build in Italia. Awesome performer, don´t you think so? If this is not the case, then a great applause to Audi´s sound designers...:-)

Sorry to rain on the parade but that it's the 420 V8 in that particular car. It'll be the first R8R into production hence why it is the engine being tested first. The normally aspirated V10 will follow but hasn't been firm tested in the Roadster yet. The R8R will have the same single exhaust each side as the V10. The quad pipes will be no more!
