I was watching this game and I was stunned when Jiri collapsed. You never EVER want to see this happen regardless of what team you root for. By the way I am a huge Red Wings fan so this made me cry very hard.
when that happens when someone collapses it usually is a heart related thing, those things happen too much I swear undetected problems or sudden heart attacks its a shame. I'm glad he recovered it was soo scary. When they announced how he was doing over the pa after they had took him to the hospital they either didn't know his real condition or down played it because they said he had suffered a seizure but wasn't it cardiac arrest and his heart actually stopped beating? he almost didnt make it
He will never play in the NHL again!!! You cannot put players with weak hearts on the ice. Odds are - he'll have a long and fruitful life - but he does have a weak heart. Rigorous exercise may trigger another heart attack!! So he's done!!
(And NO - he DID NOT DIE! Death is the complete cessation of all bodily functions - and this was just a heart attack - his brain was still functioning. By definition - once death has been achieved - there is no coming back - dead is dead!)
i was there to..section 217.... still remember it like yesterday. dead silent. you know what it was like you were there to... ive never heard it that quiet you could hear the converstations over the arena thats hwo quiet it was.

His heart stopped and he collapsed. They performed CPR and got his heart pumping again. He returned to the Red Wings and as far as I know still plays today.
Regarding the doctors---it also helped that the team physician was right behind the bench; I would not be surprised if he was already working on Fischer before the whistle blew.
This would result in changes in where team medical staff must sit, as well as other procedures. Thank G*d the Wings were prepared.
two dudes with their extra large beers. do you think they drank em up? what a shocking thing when this happens to a pro athlete. Why does happen to top notch players?
I know. Chris Pronger (hated) went down once at JLA with a stopped heart. I was in tears and praying for Pronger. I saw this live and was numb in fear.
The most chilling part is when Mickey says "It wouldnt be out of line for people to start saying some prayers" or whatever. I think that was when they must have used the defibrulator on Fischer and started his heart again. Just think, if they hadnt had that defibrulator where it was when it was there (a lot of rinks didnt have them so near the bench's) he would have died.
yeah, these are so scary. also, were you at the zednik game this year? i couldn't believe that anybody would live with that much blook coming out of them.
Scaryy, even though hockey is a competitive sport, after all is said and done, the fan, players and the people at home never want to see something happen.
man that i was at that game it was so crazy we could see them using a defibrilator on him on the bench. and for those who are wondering he is retired and he is the director of player development for the wings
