  • I was watching this game and I was stunned when Jiri collapsed. You never EVER want to see this happen regardless of what team you root for. By the way I am a huge Red Wings fan so this made me cry very hard.

  • i remember watching this game on tv. when i heard a player collapsed, i sat in my chair, eyes glued to the tv

  • Since when are locker rooms called dressing rooms? Makes it sound like the players are wimps...

  • @LivingALife2theMax because there is no lockers

  • The silence is deafening. You can just feel the emotion. :/

Such a sad and scary night.

  • What a horrible moment for her..

  • From what I heard Fischer was actually dead before paramedics revived him

  • 2:15 I want a picture of that framed.

  • what a horrible moment in red wings history. i'm glad he came through it ok.

  • True Class

  • i remember when i was at that game

  • Saying some prayers???? Fuck off with your politically correct religious bullshit!

  • @james32870 EXCUSE ME?

  • Got to love the expert medical staff and all the tremendous work they do. They definitely saved a life with this one.

  • FSN detroit handled this situation with great class

  • when that happens when someone collapses it usually is a heart related thing, those things happen too much I swear undetected problems or sudden heart attacks its a shame. I'm glad he recovered it was soo scary. When they announced how he was doing over the pa after they had took him to the hospital they either didn't know his real condition or down played it because they said he had suffered a seizure but wasn't it cardiac arrest and his heart actually stopped beating? he almost didnt make it

  • A bad event. Players and fans alike praying for a fallen player. This is why, I will always be a Red Wing fan... always.

  • You know it's really serious when the Joe is hauntingly quiet on Game Night. Thank God, Fischer is alive.

  • Jiri fischer is now director of player development with the red wings. At least he's still part of the red wings franchise

  • i was there it was really scary

  • i was there to..section 217.... still remember it like yesterday. dead silent. you know what it was like you were there to... ive never heard it that quiet you could hear the converstations over the arena thats hwo quiet it was.

  • man it must have been scary to be there when the p.a. announcer declared an emergency situation

  • i don't even watch hockey but this is so sad..

  • I was right behind the red wing bench, i saw fisher grab his heart and just went down... it was very sad

  • i take it the woman robert lang and brendan shanahan bring over is his wife?

  • His fiancee at the time, and now wife Avery.

  • @YouDummy thank god he was okay. he did play again as i recall correctly?

  • No. He has played a couple of charity games, but his pro career ended that night.

  • @YouDummy But he is wanting to get back into the game professionally, but it probably won't happen

  • @YouDummy

He tried a comeback, but he started to have a irregular heart beat again, so they made him stop

  • @YouDummy Very sad.

  • @norjak71 thank god ? umm no, thank the medical staff, fucking idiot

  • @BlueBlazer89 what are u talking about you moron?

  • @norjak71 what the fuck do you think im talking you fucking MORON ?? use your fucking head before you say stupid shit you dumbass

  • @BlueBlazer89 arrite your an idiot trying to start a fight on youtube. your gay. see ya.

  • @norjak71 ya im an idiot, and your the one who believes in a fictional character, lmao ok kid "see ya"

  • @norjak71 i want to say he works as a prospect coach with the wings currently?

  • @YouDummy She is now with Sean Avery ? Yikes.

  • @GuerreroBestEver Jiri's wife's first name is Avery.

  • @YouDummy what, shes with Avery now?

  • @YouDummy oh lol her names Avery. I just hated Sean Avery more just then. never mind, thanks

  • very classy announce team they have. Handled this very well, from not giving out the name and just in general how they handled it. Who are they?

  • Ken Daniels does the play by play, and former Red Wing Mickey Redmond does color.

  • @wilhelmce What's wrong with giving his name, anyways?

  • It was pretty cool how Yzerman and Draper came rushing out to get the stretcher. :)

  • does anybody know that he had a heartattack

  • yea he did

  • You're an ass and your comment shows your ignorance.

  • Only time I ever cried during a live Wings game.

  • You could hear a pin drop.

  • It brought a tear to my eye to see Yzerman & Drapes skate the gurney over....true teammanship!

    LET'S GO RED WINGS!!

    Anaheim Ducks, you're next!

  • For the people that think you know what you are talking about Jiri does NOT play hockey any more and is still alive and well.

  • I was watching this with my dad and i was so scared. I love the preds and hate the red wings but it didnt matter then

  • @mychemfan99 nigga u corny

  • CPR ftw

  • This was the last game he played in the NHL. The date was November 21, 2005.

  • did he die?

  • He did not return to hockey. He has retired.

  • Actually he has returned to hockey but as the Director of Player Development for the Red Wings.

  • no he had to retire but he still plays in charity games and stuff

  • Jirka je bejk, ať se mu daří

  • yeah they had some great fast thinkin doctors that day it just all came together and they all worked together and saved his life thank goodness

  • Regarding the doctors---it also helped that the team physician was right behind the bench; I would not be surprised if he was already working on Fischer before the whistle blew.

This would result in changes in where team medical staff must sit, as well as other procedures. Thank G*d the Wings were prepared.

  • That is just so hard to watch. Even harder being a hockey player yourself. I almost cried while watching this.

  • yes it was very sad.

  • whats happened?heart attack?

  • Yes.

  • i saw that game

  • two dudes with their extra large beers. do you think they drank em up? what a shocking thing when this happens to a pro athlete. Why does happen to top notch players?

  • he had the same undetected heart condition that Cherapanov had. sad man. he was just starting to become a beast on the ice.

  • how cool was it when yzerman and draper rush the stretcher over to the bench? choked me up a little bit.

  • im glad he is alive, hopefully he is doing well

unfortunately the same medical assitance wasnt in place for Alexei Cherepanov, or else a 19 year old would be here today

RIP Alexei, and best wishes Jiri

  • On great player. the next Vladdy. its a shame

  • thank god i was not watching this game... i'm like getting teary eyed and i'm not a wings fan.... it just puts everything in perspective

  • I know. Chris Pronger (hated) went down once at JLA with a stopped heart. I was in tears and praying for Pronger. I saw this live and was numb in fear.

  • i dont remember prongers heart stopping when was that? how sad i kno he isnt very liked but that shouldnt happen to anyone glad hes ok now

  • 1998 Playoffs in JLA. See his wiki on Google.

  • oh okay thanks that will be interesting. I wonder if someone has that on youtube?

  • The most chilling part is when Mickey says "It wouldnt be out of line for people to start saying some prayers" or whatever. I think that was when they must have used the defibrulator on Fischer and started his heart again. Just think, if they hadnt had that defibrulator where it was when it was there (a lot of rinks didnt have them so near the bench's) he would have died.

  • who was that girl they brought across the ice? im guessing it was ficher's wife or gf

  • It was his then girlfriend, now wife, Avery.

  • i saw this live and i thought he died im so glad he is skating now

  • yeah, these are so scary. also, were you at the zednik game this year? i couldn't believe that anybody would live with that much blook coming out of them.

  • no i dnt remember what happened

  • man... u have obviously never heard of what happened to clint malarchuk, look it up on youtube

  • He's alive, but he isn't playing anymore...and I would be shocked if any doctor ever cleared him to play again.

  • yea i no but that wud be cool if he played again

  • češi a slovaci maj smůlu

  • I remember when this happened sitting in my basement. One of the scariest moments ever.

  • When I see this I remember that Teppo Numminen had the same problem with the heart

  • hard to imagine ur playing a game, then the unthinkable happens!! this is a nightmare

  • he just played in a charity event today or yesterday, he is looking to start practicing again

  • i thought the worst when they pushed the stretcher away...thank god he's okay

  • Wow never knew this happened... and I'm a huge wings fan.

  • Must be a HUGE fan if you NEVER knew this happened! /sarcasm!

  • Well... I didn't really pay that much attention that year :P

  • You're not a huge fan if you never knew about this, let alone "didn't pay attention to that year." wtf

  • I wasn't a huge fan that year.

  • A fan pays attention every year.

  • (A true fan)

  • Are you guys gonna keep dragging this on? Just let it go.

  • the thing is that Fischer had a heart disease. His heart I think is smaller than average and was subject to arythmy

  • roger that

  • Thank got he is ok

  • Yea, thank god but it ended his careerer.. =[

  • that just sucks...

  • he said he might come back next year

  • for real?

  • no he'll never get cleared to play again

  • He can be cleared. Its very unlikely though.

  • The reports on the NHL Network, was that

He won't be cleared to play in the NHL

He was cleared to play 1 game two weeks ago

It was a Charity Game for Heart Conditions.

  • Scaryy, even though hockey is a competitive sport, after all is said and done, the fan, players and the people at home never want to see something happen.

  • thats just really unfortunate for him coming that close to death and having to give up his nhl career.

  • Just thank god that hes okay

  • man that i was at that game it was so crazy we could see them using a defibrilator on him on the bench. and for those who are wondering he is retired and he is the director of player development for the wings

  • POOOR FICSHE! HE WAS MY FAVORITE!

  • Any chance that he can get back into hockey, or has he retired?

  • From what I've read, he can suffer another seizure at any time with no warning. Even while doing something so simple as mowing his lawn. Given that information (and insurance rules in professional sports) I don't think anyone is willing to take the risk.

I loved Jiri but I would never want him to play again. It's just not worth his life.

  • Thats very true, I just didnt know those details. Thanks.

  • how could they cancel this game and NOT Clint Malarchuk's game? lol wierd

  • you've got a point, but it was different in '89.

  • because malarchuck got stable, jiri had to be brought back.

  • Shit happens, it was just worse because it was on national television and millions of people saw it. Very scary indeed.

  • wat the hell does that have to do with anything

  • yeah really wats that got to do with fischer

  • this happened a week before the ref who helped perform cpr on fischer got hit with a puck and practically died..

    hockey's intense man.

  • very scary stuff.

  • smutny co se stalo

  • i remember watching this, everybody in my family was so scared for him!

  • Jiri actually was a good hockey player, pretty sad that this messed him up.

  • i heard(not sure and ye watever) that hes making a impressive recovery and an even more impressive return

  • He may want to return, but I don't see ANY doctor EVER clearing him to play ever again.

  • Do anything to make that happen? No, he had a pre-existing heart condition.

  • that wuz a scary game i wuz there

  • i was there

  • what there happened ?

  • his heart stopped

  • Does anyone know where I can get the full coverage of this game and the makeup game I would like to see it in full

  • so scary

  • Actually Jiri Fischer is not all that fine. He has had issues with his heart following the incident. He has said that his main priority is his health and his heart. If he plays again, so be it, but he doesnt care if he does or not.

  • im from czech republic and i am fun of jiri. i hope you ll play in future...

  • i was at that game and all they said to us was that there was a red wings emergency which really annoyed me cuz we didnt know who it was. get better Jiri

  • I believe Fischer is currently not cleared to play, and it is unlikely he will be cleared at all. I hear that he is still on IR, but with the Wings, however, I think he is done with hockey, as much as I hate to say it.

  • i think i heard sumthin from Jiri on TV not too long ago about him sayin that the doctors still dont know, but he's just glad to be alive and i think that's the main thing here, that he's alive. i hope he can play again.

  • what is the status of Fischer right now with the Red wings?

  • Officially on long term injury (LTI) and still under contract with the team. He still works out, but does not practice. His salary still counts against the Wings cap. He still wants to return to play, but is being realistic about it.

  • well at his age ppl might say he still got a long way to go in terms of his career but then what are his chances of ever playing again?

  • thats good to hear

  • He's probably fine. No team will ever be able to take a chance on him for legal reasons (my guess). Major lawsuit if he were to collapse and die.

  • get better jiri <3 wish u well

  • im a referee for USA hockey, and this is the worst thing an official can ever see. Get better soon Jiri. You the man.

  • im huge avalanche fan and i hate the red wings but i never would wish this on any player and im am really happy that jiri fischer is ok and hopefully back out on the ice as soon as possible

  • I just hope that Jiri could return someday...

  • That was horrendous. Hope Jiri gets better soon.

  • Get better soon, Fisch, I'd love to see you in a Wings uniform once again.
