Awsome video, I agree with almost everything you say about the game. Personally I'd love to see the Kremlings, but maybe that's just nostalgia. But then again this game is all about nostalgia for me.

@Mr64jaime Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't a 2D platformer. It has some 2D platforming in it, but you can't say it's the best because of that.

I actually have to disagree with you with the animal buddies. In DKC1 the animal buddies were only used for secerts however in DKC2 the animal buddies were maindatory.

P.S. I'm just wondering this.I've seen some of your comments on DKC returns. Why do you hate Rare?

Whoops, I've been watching your trailers for ages but didn't realize you did reviews too. Already picking up DKCR but it's good to see a review not drop BS marks due to waggle or being 'too hard'.

Also, since it didn't come up in your review, what's your opinion on the older games? Seen a few places compare it favourably to the old trilogy while others seem to liken it more to Jungle Beat. Huge fan of both (no idea why the DKC’s get a lot of flak nowadays) so was just wondering what to expect.

@KanineKruizer The gameplay and controls in DKC on the SNES were not revolutionary by any means. Everybody was just blown away by the graphics and music. DKC Returns has some great controls and some of the BEST level design in any 2D platformer. Thats what it brings to the table - amazing, clever level design that out does the old games by a long shot. As far as the music goes - anybody who has listened to tracks like "Music Madness" or "Tidal Terror" would not say the music isn't amazing.

I love the way you go into details of the music, the minor animations (like the flies around the frogs), etc.

Touches such as these is what makes the entire level seem alive for me - whenever something happens eg. DK pounding the ground, everything shakes, there are particles everywhere, bits of rubble falling off rocks, drops of water, etc etc - this game has a level of polish that's almost never seen in games any more.

I'd agree with most of that except the controls.

Having to waggle to do the roll and blow moves does not feel very intuitive at all and it does imo make controlling and playing the game sometimes a little less instinctive and indeed fun as it could have been without the forced and unnecessary waggle.

Other than that the game is great but to me the fundamental controls are a very important part of the overall quality of the gameplay experience and they are not quite perfect imo.

Probably the best review I've heard! I gotta say, this game is really good. On of the best this year, but i dont agree with it bieng a new installment in de DKC series, i think it suits more with Jungle Beat then it doesn with DKC. You can`t switch between Diddy and Donkey, no underwater levels, i think the level design and gameplay looks more like Jungle Beat and only Rambi makes his return.

Switching between characters is no big deal.

No one likes underwater levels, they are slow and boring.

Maybe it looks like it, but it plays different.

Rambi is the only one you get to use but not the only one.

I don't see the big deal about switching and underwater stages are not fun because you can't speed run them well.

If I remember correctly, you were only able to use the animals like for a total of 5-6 stages for the entire first game and they were pretty similar.

this game totally deserves a 10 though the music could have been more ambiant/ gloomy. that was really the reason for me why dkc 2 was so good. so i really hope this game sells well so we can see a sequal soon
