Romero don't run. but the scary thing is, what would really keep a zombie from running? sure, sooner rather than later the zombies leg muscles would tear and not heal, making it so they can only walk, but even if only for a day, I bet you a zombie could run like a bat out of hell.

The reason why zombies cant run is because the virus that makes them zombies pretty much destroys all motor functions other than a slow shuffle. Running and actual walking are higher motor functions.

I did (and am) reading the zombie survival guide, and I read World War Z (also by Max Brooks). But think about it, if the motor functions to walk, dig (yeah, they can dig for prey, just not very affectively, read WWZ), and stand back up, why not be able to run until their muscles tear up too much?

Good point. I have read WWZ and own it too. Both good books. I would figure though that since the virus so rapidly degenerates the brain into simply the motor cortex(s) that they wouldnt be able to run or do much else than those basic little movements. I suppose, that maybe for a few minutes a zombie could run, but when you run the lactic acid builds up QUICK. So it would start dissolving muscle tissue nice and easy.
