what was the republican party actually became the democratic party and what was the democratic party became the republican party i know its wierd but so is most of the stuff you can learn about this country from a history class (civil war wasnt even about slavery till 1/2 way throug and other stuff like that)
@dyhongloong that isnt really true. no one still supports slavery, and no one supports legalized segregation. it is worth noting that most people live in relatively homogenous neighborhoods, which means that even most liberals and democrats tend to self-segregate based on race/ethnicity. there are more white democrats than black democrats, so if they really believed in integration, the white democrats would move into black neighborhoods. they don't because they are no better than anyone.
True, but even Lincoln was a racist in his own words and the original Republican party was progressive to the Democrats conservatism at that time. Parties and the people that make them up can change drastically in just a few years.
Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act pretty much guaranteed that racist Dixiecrats would jump to the Republican party (which they soon took over).
You can look it up about America not wanting 1 party. Because one party might see something the other party didn't see so there can be a equal balance. I know my history that's how I know about that I'm always reading books on history I love American History your right about them emerging before and after Washington due to disagreements.
I get the point of these videos and your saying that the dem party is better then the rep party when we are all equal You should do your history cause Rome was a republic but they had one party which became an empire and ceaser was there emperor america didn't want that so we created 2 parties so rep could do the stuff dems might not have thought of and the dems could do things the rep might not have thought of we could have this balance between the 2 parties. Not one being better then the other
The Founding Fathers were against factions. However, they recognized that it was probably inevitable (Federalist Papers, dude). No where is it written in the Constitution that there should be a 2-party system. The first two parties were the Democratic-Republicans and the Federalists. They really emerged during and after Washington's admin becuase of disagreements over states rights/federal power. I agree that it's a good thing to have more than one party, but dude, get your history right.
one note, it wasn't really a civil war because by definition the south was trying to seperate itself from the north, while the north wanted to rule the south.
In what way is that not a civil war? A civil war is, by definition, a war among the citizens of a single nation. The legitimacy of the Confederacy was supposed to be demonstrated by the civil war because according to the laws of the union, there was no legal way to back out of the union.
And called others ignorant in history for supposedly not knowing that.
You need to delve into the history of the multiple party systems the United States has had over the years and note the transition of the liberal republicans into the modern day conservative republicans and vice versa on the democratic side.
If you had any honesty you would be calling republicans on their shit because the democrats in those days were CONSERVATIVE.
yes, it was true that democrats were conservative, and as such they supported slavery, while the libreral "radical republicans" had been recently founded as an antislavery party. After their extremely liberal party cought on in the north they won there first election with Lincoln.
hmmm, i'm a republican from maryland, my parents were from up further north, so don't believe stereotypical nonsense. Lincoln was from Illinois, from a modest household, you dumbass.
lol its the confederate flag. The civil war abolished slavery. What ever happened after war was because of the north regardless which state stop slavery. But that does not matter since the north didn't have slaves during the war of Independence which was way before the civil and before we were a country.
Troll much? Every fact you've spouted is wrong. The Confederacy seceded so they wouldn't have to abolish slavery. Lincoln never owned slaves. Davis did.
its true, slavery was first abolished in the south, but not BY the confederates. lol the South didn't abolish slavery. the war was about more states rights than federal so the South broke from the Union. Lincoln then later on had the emancipation proclamation which freed all slaves in the South. The Confederacy didn't do this. Lincoln was trying to create morale boost and make the war about slavery, thus giving more support for the North.
So they're implying that all Republicans are pro-Slavery, racist, and wish to concede from the U.S.? Hmm, and if I recall Abe Lincoln was a Republican... Man, Republicans sure are racist, golly gee.
It's secede, concede means to surrender. You are right, one of the founding issues of the Republican party was anti-slavery rhetoric. Not the Emancipation was a Republican's creation. Earl Warren, who lead to the Supreme Court in the Brown v. the BOE, was appointed by a Republican. That Republican then enforced the Court's decision with military units. The Democrat's then passed legislation that granted things and made all the achievements of African-Americans appear as a government handout...
maybe in a state house. as for families, when the democrats and the republicans gradually switched sides on race, you think no one was willing to change over with it?
the south = racist racist= anti black anti black does not = black does not =black =repucain studys have shown that raist are more likly to vote republican
I can do this. Affirmative action= debilitating racist legislation that hurts both groups involved through preferential that removes all merit from the benefactor and gives reason for others to perpetuate racism. Democrats support affirmative action. Democrats= new age racists. Yes, it is indeed racism because it's what Rudyard Kipling refered to as the "whiteman's burden". BTW, Democratics split the ticket for Congress in most southern states. The vote republican because of religion not race.
affirmtive actoin is to make up for past racism 2nd you should use such big words talking to a young liberal. affirimitivwe actoin is also making up fort current racism look a person doesnt get one job becuase they are a minority(or a women) deserves to get a job becuase they are
I know what affirmative action is suppose to do but for all of its benefits it has very detrimental affects. It racism to continue and spawns new racism. People being passed over for jobs based on race or students not being accepted to school because they are white. And then the minority parties that have degrees are seen as less than. Clarence Thomas said his law degree was worthless because everyone saw it as a result of afirmative action, which it wasn't. It's not worth it anymore. Obsolete.

What current US demographic has decided to enslave another group of people? We have entire generations of people who never experience so much as segregation or common racism. Would you punish the theif's son and grandson for his crimes?

The US doesn't punish racist? You go nowhere nationally as a outspoken racist. Also, people are entitled to an opinon, not matter how backward it maybe, and have a constitutional right to speak their mind. However, to proclaim all republicans racist because racists may vote for them is like declaring all classical music Mozart's work because he composed some of it. 2nd Amendment rights are probably the main reason the South votes republican, because slavery and segragation are not coming back.
im not saying all or even most im sayying that their are more racists in the south . that is a fact 2nd the confederete flag is in the south. luckily most people arnt racist and you are acully very right with the reason they vote republican
ummmm....... what? I don't get it. But, my guess is that if you are a Republican... you are a racist. Come On! This a a joke right? Is this what you Libs are resorting to now? BTW... I'm on a MAC. So this must mean I'm a Lib... by your analogy anyway. Just a very poor video. Not clever at all.
I'm on a Mac too! We did this one over a year ago when the Virginia senate race was still being talked about (Sen. George Allen was known for his Confederate flag appreeciation.) It's nice to see that the current crop of Republican candidates seem to be much more willing to stand up to racist symbols (sorry if any Southerners out there disagree-- it may have once been a symbol for States Rights, but that was a LONG time ago.)
Republicans are white southern bible bashing NRA xenophobes with noteable exeptions ie members of the business community and the uneducated housewives of suburbia who gain most of their info from Fox News.
The latter make up the urban ranks of the republican party.
It's no secret that working class republicans are predominantly rural, southern, and poorly educated. This group favors low gov intervention, low taxation,is against gay rights and 'lets be honest'remains somewhat racist though never admitting it.They are overtly conservative and wish to keep the age old racial, sexual and religious hierarchys in place. They furthermore resent federal power and fav social and political independence which is a cultural phenomenon that has its roots in secession.
Yes the Republicans where liberal in 1854, the position of the parties has switched drastically since then but the underlying ideology of certain groups within society has changed less.
The fact that former confederate states all vote Republican isn't a coincidence.
Dinkus2000... Race cars? WTF are you talking about? You are so full of hatred. I live in Wisconsin. I've never been to a race. I have a college degree, I work hard, and I pay a hell of a lot of taxes. Let's talk about you. age 21. Never had a good job. Never supported a family. Never ran a business. Never had to worry about your employees and their families. Obviously uneducated. Full of Hatred. Spews of ignorance. Hypocrite. Stereotyping moron. You're just a spoiled snot-nosed little punk.
It's funny that you make these outlandish statements with no factual basis, and are an uneducated twit yourself. I love how your page states your occupation is a "studant".
Regardless of your opinion whether the flag is the racist symbol that it is (is the problem that it reached that connotation through EVOLUTION? or just your own personal racism?), if a presidential candidate whipped out a confederate flag, all the crybaby liberals and ethnic-types would get all uppity, and the candidate would be screwed. That's the only flag point-of-view being presented in the video.
No no, just the whole thing about the Rebel flag...not sure how you ment it. Don't mean to come off rude, it's just the "Rebel" flag didn't stand for racism, and in fact that particular one there, was actually a battle flag, later adopted. Just sayin, the flag is not much of a bad thing, if thats what you ment it, not saying you did.
Oh thanks for not bein an ignorant idiot like most people :)
Point taken, but do me a favor some day and try and find one African American who agrees with you about the Rebel Flag not being a symbol of racism. It may not have started out that way, but far too many racists have taken it as their own for it to every regain its original "states rights" meaning. Time changes all.
This is true, I know of only three African Americns and one Jamaican who believes it does not stand for it. But down here in Florida alot of the African Americans and Jamaicans had either family who volunteered for it, or who just learned from hanging out with us "whiteys". I get your point though, somewhat sad...
Yea, the flag definately has nothing to do with slavery. And its over. get over it. Just to let you know SCross35, Slavery was a very little part in the cause of the civil war.
except for the fact that the statement upon which the confederacy staked its existence and lost was slavery. Also, ironically enough, the video didn't mention slavery. You made that connection, so perhaps you should tell us how you arrived at that... deduction.
i would agree with the confederates washington should not be able to pass bills that dictate the entire country issues should be decided on a state level don't get me wrong im not pro slavery!
the civil war was not fought over slavery you idiots it was fought over the power of the national government dont be idiots look up your history before you argue
President Grant declaired war on terrorism -- he made it illegal for democrats to lynch black people. KKK was the terrorist arm of the democratic party for years. Eisenhower used troops to help blacks go to school.
Don't try and re-write history and play down the republicans anti-white supremacy platform dude!
It was the democrats who responded to the 13th, 14th and 15th amendment with "Jim Crow" laws -- they also passed laws that required some states to fly the confederate flag.
Dumb asses who posted this video are just over-simplifying and changing history (the book 1984)
If you were actually educated, you would realize that for a long time, the democrats were conservatives and the republicans were liberal. You can't adervtise the past achievements of the republicans, or the past failures of the democrats, because then you're just being a hypocrite.
If you look at congressional court records in the National archives, and compare the voting records of the two parties -- Democrats have a lot more to explain. (even if southern voters switched sides)
Republicans fought for the freedom of slaves you idiots.
and look up your civil war history! OMG the union invaded the south because they tried to suceed... it had nothing to do with slavery! the union had already promised to leave the south alone about that! and even when they did invade, the emancipation proclomation only freed slaves in the south! read up om your history before trying to look smart
The Civil War had everything to do with slavery; it was kicked off to stop southern secession and nullification, but why were they succeeding and what laws were they nullifying?
Actualy today Abe Lincoln would be a Liberterean not A democrat. Up until Kennedy the democrats where against imagination and African Americans. LBJ was the one that implemented civil rights laws. And Southern Democrats are still racists.
People who are refering to past leaders as being members of the Republican party are stupid. It was a different time back then; Abe Lincoln was a Rep. but if he were in this era he would easily associate with the democrats.
actually no he wouldn't. Abe Lincoln today would be a libertarian not a Democrat. The Democrats up until (I don't want a fight here) so I'll say Kennedy have been against imagination and against African Americans. and southern Democrats are still racists.
Does KKK member and Virginia Democratic State Senator Robert Byrd or Louisianas finest David Duke know the Republican stole their flag? I wonder what Republicans Dr. Martin Luther King or Fredrick Douglas would think of this ad. Spewing hate is easier than absorbing the truth guys.
This video is making fun of George Allen like neo-cons and the whole pot calling the kettle black that is a constant part of politics. I think you are over reacting a bit. It's funny!
I will nevermind, you apparently don't know the US's party history. You dont have to be a Dem or a Rep to know the Dems have had the true racist past.
This really makes me laugh. All of them do. I live in a very political family. My uncle is a senator so probably why. Well just saying thanks for all the laughs. ^_^
Thanks! "Democrat" and "Republican" really appreciate your supprt, but if they're going to keep on doing this, we're going to need a LOT of people to RATE this and SAVE IT to FAVORITES. PLEASE send it to your friends!!!
LOL I Lol'd when the flag came out but this was stupid.

It's funny that you make these outlandish statements with no factual basis, and are an uneducated twit yourself. I love how your page states your occupation is a "studant".
Fucking moron...

The truth hurts dosnt it ?
You want factual basis - examine the demographics yourself -
yeeha !

That's the only flag point-of-view being presented in the video.
necrolingus 4 years ago
boy you need a history lesson...
jakdethe 4 years ago
We're listening. . . Just don't tell us all about how Democrats were racists 100 years ago and that Lincoln freed the slaves.
britethorn 4 years ago
No no, just the whole thing about the Rebel flag...not sure how you ment it. Don't mean to come off rude, it's just the "Rebel" flag didn't stand for racism, and in fact that particular one there, was actually a battle flag, later adopted. Just sayin, the flag is not much of a bad thing, if thats what you ment it, not saying you did.
Oh thanks for not bein an ignorant idiot like most people :)
jakdethe 4 years ago
Point taken, but do me a favor some day and try and find one African American who agrees with you about the Rebel Flag not being a symbol of racism. It may not have started out that way, but far too many racists have taken it as their own for it to every regain its original "states rights" meaning. Time changes all.
britethorn 4 years ago
This is true, I know of only three African Americns and one Jamaican who believes it does not stand for it. But down here in Florida alot of the African Americans and Jamaicans had either family who volunteered for it, or who just learned from hanging out with us "whiteys". I get your point though, somewhat sad...
jakdethe 4 years ago
LOL OMG i didn't see that coming!!

Yea, the flag definately has nothing to do with slavery. And its over. get over it. Just to let you know SCross35, Slavery was a very little part in the cause of the civil war.
bttitans04 4 years ago
whats wrong with the confederate flag. it has nothing to do with slavery.
DeutschViking 4 years ago
except for the fact that the statement upon which the confederacy staked its existence and lost was slavery. Also, ironically enough, the video didn't mention slavery. You made that connection, so perhaps you should tell us how you arrived at that... deduction.
SCross35 4 years ago
Maybe it's from all the other comments stereotyping Republicans as racists?
didles123 3 years ago
And to this day the south is still heavily democratic
anwealde 4 years ago
ROFL you all are idiots for thinking the civil war had nothing to do with slavery.
"Republicans fought for the freedom of slaves you idiots.
and look up your civil war history! OMG the union invaded the south because they tried to suceed... it had nothing to do with slavery!"
britethorn:
"Huh?"
DarkNinjaKill 4 years ago
i would agree with the confederates washington should not be able to pass bills that dictate the entire country issues should be decided on a state level don't get me wrong im not pro slavery!
CountDraculer 4 years ago
the civil war was not fought over slavery you idiots it was fought over the power of the national government dont be idiots look up your history before you argue

Jadd612 4 years ago
It was the democrats who responded to the 13th, 14th and 15th amendment with "Jim Crow" laws -- they also passed laws that required some states to fly the confederate flag.
Dumb asses who posted this video are just over-simplifying and changing history (the book 1984)
Jadd612 4 years ago
If you were actually educated, you would realize that for a long time, the democrats were conservatives and the republicans were liberal. You can't adervtise the past achievements of the republicans, or the past failures of the democrats, because then you're just being a hypocrite.
Wattahmelonz 4 years ago
If you look at congressional court records in the National archives, and compare the voting records of the two parties -- Democrats have a lot more to explain. (even if southern voters switched sides)
Jadd612 4 years ago
1924 Democratic National convention was the largest KKK rally in American history -- dubbed "Klanbake"
geeky "white" liberals profit the most off scaring black voters.
Jadd612 4 years ago
Republicans fought for the freedom of slaves you idiots.
and look up your civil war history! OMG the union invaded the south because they tried to suceed... it had nothing to do with slavery! the union had already promised to leave the south alone about that! and even when they did invade, the emancipation proclomation only freed slaves in the south! read up om your history before trying to look smart
crazed410 4 years ago
Huh?
britethorn 4 years ago
The Civil War had everything to do with slavery; it was kicked off to stop southern secession and nullification, but why were they succeeding and what laws were they nullifying?
abashedblue 4 years ago
The Civil War has some to do with slavery, and everything to do with the sovereignty of the South.

yeah, he might be a reformist though. yeah and the stars and bars aren't anything to be ashamed of

Actualy today Abe Lincoln would be a Liberterean not A democrat. Up until Kennedy the democrats where against imagination and African Americans. LBJ was the one that implemented civil rights laws. And Southern Democrats are still racists.
ratpack7 4 years ago
People who are refering to past leaders as being members of the Republican party are stupid. It was a different time back then; Abe Lincoln was a Rep. but if he were in this era he would easily associate with the democrats.
paolisss 4 years ago
actually no he wouldn't. Abe Lincoln today would be a libertarian not a Democrat. The Democrats up until (I don't want a fight here) so I'll say Kennedy have been against imagination and against African Americans. and southern Democrats are still racists.

"Against imagination"?

Does KKK member and Virginia Democratic State Senator Robert Byrd or Louisianas finest David Duke know the Republican stole their flag? I wonder what Republicans Dr. Martin Luther King or Fredrick Douglas would think of this ad. Spewing hate is easier than absorbing the truth guys.
froochie123 4 years ago
This video is making fun of George Allen like neo-cons and the whole pot calling the kettle black that is a constant part of politics. I think you are over reacting a bit. It's funny!
MacGirvan 4 years ago
Exactly my point. There is no Pot calling the Kettle black in this... its the Pot blaming the Kettle for being the Pot it isnt.
froochie123 4 years ago
wow! you believe you're actually making a good point. ok. Nevermind.
MacGirvan 4 years ago
I will nevermind, you apparently don't know the US's party history. You dont have to be a Dem or a Rep to know the Dems have had the true racist past.
