  • theres no point to do green screen if you have to go around every edge and double check. Just outline with the pen tool and skip having to have a green screen and all that bs. Plus your subject is still left with green color on his face and watch etc.

  • visit the green genie software web site.thegreengenie , on hard image with green genie mask you job will be easier , it is very helpfull video

  • Thank you for being a teacher. This was by far the best tutorial I've found so far. I've looked for days and days for someone who can TEACH.

  • Great video. Very easy to follow.

  • By far the best among the best of teachers every once else should move up to your level THANK YOU FOR YOUR PROFESIONALISIM. SOLE FAN FROM MEXICO. LOVE THE SOUTING VOICE AND CALMNESS, ALSO THE INDEPT EXPLANATION.

    THE BEST...............................

  • 6:01 Just hold down the ALT key and then press the vector mask and it will do it just what you want ! . You don't have to invert it then...

  • @zdumbi She explains that later on...

  • A Women?! Coooool :D

  • if you go to select then pick color range, you can get rid of the green so much easier

  • What if i want to add a Backround. that i have (More than 1 color)

  • @legosareus I'd suggest watching some of my more recent videos on Extraction Methods. Once you extract the subject you can place it over any type of background

  • I Have no Magic Wand!!!

  • @legosareus I'm sure we all wish we had a Magic Wand in real life, but in Photoshop it is located in the Toolbar. Depending on your version, it may be hidden under the Quick Selection Tool (CS5). Press and hold on the current tool and a popout of hidden tools will appear.

  • Great tutorial. Thanx for the info

  • Your video is great. I like it. Thank you for your sharing.

  • This is an awesome tutorial! Thanks for sharing your expertise!

  • this sucks its for windows 64bit ... im not installing the OS at all i fucked my hard drive disk enough LOL

  • this is painfully slow!

  • @AaaaghJOE Note the date...it was before YT did HD, all my newer vids are HD

  • @AaaaghJOE

I think he means the video overall... all I want to do is fast forward the whole video, that or sleep. But don't get me wrong... this was a great tutorial

  • what a nice tutorial...

  • I love your tutorials, i just dislike the quality. =/

  • @felipipi Note the 2008 upload date...it was before YT and Camtasia had HD. Most of my 2009 and all 2010 vids are 1280p HD.

  • @photoshopmama Can you re upload this in HD?

  • @legosareus Sorry, this was not recorded with HD dimensions or settings...it's an old recording, so unless I re-recording the whole thing over it will never be HD. My later videos are all HD, though.

  • Great video!

  • thanx mama :D

  • I'm using Photoshop Elements 6.0 so it's diffrent, i cant see any mask icon .. please help me ?

  • @iSilversaku Sorry--Elements does not support layer masks on pixel layers, only on Adjustments like Levels, so this tutorial will only go so far with Elements.

  • @photoshopmama Then can i request a tutorial on how to do it on Photoshop elements 6.0 ?

  • @iSilversaku I don't use Elements so you'd have to find another author that does. Sorry!

  • you are great, thank you very much, so clear and easy to understand. a hug from medellin, colombia!

  • @Drake144Drake Screenflow for the mac

  • magic wand tool is shit

  • enjoyed this Video will have to practice a lot cant get the hang of layers yet must be an age thing but thank you very much

  • Hi Mama Shan! I am trying to cutout a girl wearing white from a white background. What is the best way to do that? Thanks in advance and by the way, i love your videos

  • use the eraser tool with a fuzzy setting. Just cut out the parts not too close to the subject with the lasso tool or anything else. Then erase what's still around the subject. Usually comes out very precise and u can always edit it

  • Wonderful video. So much better than those by the kids who are unintelligible or answering IMs while giving their tutorials.

  • 06:30 control+ alt ? WTF????

  • ok now what do i do

  • Click on the more info link in the side bar and continue with the series. There are 10 parts.

  • Great tutorial

  • Good question...but the entire file is already a duplicate jpg

  • YOU SOUND LIKE MICHEAL JACKSON!

    =]

  • I appreciate your very thorough explanations of the functions of the various features, but it makes the guide go a bit slow.

  • Fantastic. Thank you.

  • This is so awesome!! I've been doing it the hard way. I didn't know there were short cut buttons. Finally someone can tell me how it's done the easy way! Thanks Mama! :D

  • what makes your videos amazing is the fact that you will explain what every one of the million settings to each tool does. It is very easy to learn from your teaching style. i can't believe this is free! thanks =)

  • Yup! Free! But if you ever want to improve your retouching workflow and show some love for Mama, go buy some of my products at my Website.

  • YOUR THE BEST BY FAR.. Check Out My Music AND Videos when you get a chance.? THanx mama keep up the good work. i just got photoshopcs4 and i feel like i know so much already. ive never been familiar with photoshop before. thanx for making it possible :)

  • Why do all the other tutorials say NOT to use magic wand?

  • First of all, not ALL other tutorials say NOT to use magic wand. Google magic wand and you'll find hundreds of tutorials that use it. Each tool, or menu command or channel masking technique has it's own unique properties and limits. I think one should experiment with all of them and then you might find some favorites or at least functional combinations.

  • What a great work you do creating this tutorials.. Do you have a video doing that but with a more difficult background?

  • It would be even longer and more boring because it is a combination of many tools and techniques and is more manual masking than anything. Watching these types of vids give you the skills...or should, to figure out how to apply them to more difficult extractions. White reveals black conceals, basic brush masking mantra.

  • Hey mama,av got a question, has the background got to be green?

The backgrounds i've got aren't green, do i have to make them green first and how?

    thanx

  • Green Screen is mainly used for video software which has built in chroma key functions to filter it out. We get requests from rappers to shoot like this but I think the best bg is Light Gray, then you don't get color cast spills.

  • Could you please do extracting tutorial by using a photo that has a normal background, like a backgorund of nature?

    thanx

  • Have a cup of coffee, perk it up a bit, got bored by the dullset tones.

  • in your other video, the man in the picture was in perfect black and white mode... how did you make it? please give us tutorial on how are you going to make perfect black and white pictures! :D thanks!

  • Hard to know what "other" video you mean without the title or series name.

  • great ! video very informative.!!!

  • thanks alot it is really healpful

  • not really helpful cuz it doesn't even show how to remove it from the masked

  • This is a series (several separate videos, see the links in sidebar!)---did you watch all of it? I think your concerns will be addressed if you do.

  • i just used extract filter it much easier and faster!

  • wow you are very good!! I am trying to learn..So time consuming lol

What type of cam-grab pogram do you use? it looks really clear and allows a good zoom..Thanks in advance!

  • ??? to much talking making it to confusing

  • Comment removed

  • if you want more precision

use a movie light to remove shadow

  • Little Time machine in photoshop ... lol

    P.S. nice tutorial.... 5/5

  • Mama is the BEST!!!!!

  • I love your warm relaxing voice. You teach us great! Even for a strainger like me that doesn't speak much English your accent sounds familiar, clear much better than English. Keep on like this I'm gonna watch all your tutorials day by day in my free time. Thanks

  • Your videos make sence and explain how to do it, instead of other people just showing you what to do..

  • EXCELLENT ! 10 stars ----

  • The Magic Wand is nice and quick, but I always prefer spending the extra time creating paths with the pen tool using bezier curves for this kind of masking. Great tutorial, tho.

  • Love the calm voice. Love the video. Love the depth of comment. Love it all.

  • The same here !!!! This is my first view of your tutorials... and i want to say that i am in love with your video tutorials . You have a lot of patience :X

  • WOW!!!!

YOUR SO HOT!!! YOUR VIDEO IS PERFECT, SO EASY TO UNDERSTAND..

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :-p

  • I am SO happy I found your videos. Thank you!

  • When you select your brush then go on to reveal more of the ear ring, arm, trousers and so on, is there a specific brush you need because my brushes do not give me the same result but instead just paint normally.

And you're probably getting tyred but thanx, the tutorial is really great, you being specific is extremly helpfull.

  • I use an Airbrush Soft Round. Adjust diameter with consecutive clicks of the left(for smaller) or right(for larger) bracket keys. Make sure you are painting on the mask. It should say Layer Mask appended to the title bar of the document window at the top. Painting w/ Black conceals the subject, White reveals. Also make sure the top options bar reflects the brush is in Normal blending mode and the Opacity and Flow are at 100%.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH...this vid is very helpful.

  • Great tutorial! When you introduce the tools and describe what they do is very helpful. Also what you are clicking on something, and you say Alt or Shift, alot of tutorials dont say what is actually going on and you do!

  • I've been accused of being a bit long-winded and it's nice to know it pays off for folks like you. Thank you!

  • ctrl+A ctrl+E or ctrl+I

  • What does your comment mean?

    Ctrl A is Select All

    Ctrl E is Merge Down

    Ctrl I is Invert

    ...and so?

  • Wow!. You're an awesome instructor. I wonder if there may be anyone that knows Photoshop better than you. Naw, I don't think so. Thanks for your explicit, clear, abundant videos. Oh, and I love your accent. Thanks again.

  • Thanks! Wait a minute...I have an accent?

  • Yes, with somewhat of a lisp. Said with all due respect though. And, if you want to know, it sounds SEXY.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

  • ohhh.. shift click!!! Love it. Thanks again.

  • i love how detailed you are with this tutorial :) i'v seen a lot of tutorials and the majority tell you to do this and do that but never tell you why (tolerance/anti-aliasing etc) so it is a nice change to hear and understand what the options i am ticking and unticking actually do :D

thanks mama! keep it up :D

  • Shift + Click is my new favorite shortcut!

    Thanks Mama!

  • aweeesome!

  • Thanks for this, great tutorial.

  • great tutorial thanks!

  • whuup

    thankiesss!

    xxx

  • Thanks Photoshop Mama! I always find your tutorials very helpful! I will never delete a selection again :)

  • haa...never say never!...sometimes you will, sometimes even Mama does, although rarely!

  • Gratz with 100 vids!!!

    thanks for all your tuts!!

    Grtz
