A line of (250,000) mourners that stretched 10 miles - I encourage people to research and listen to speeches given by JFK & RFK and compare their words to speeches delivered by elected "leaders" today.
A real tragedy, the Kennedy family bore themselves with real dignity.Though it was somewhat disingenuous of that reporter to call JFK a 'devout roman catholic',given the man's propensity for extra-marital affairs!

The Johnsons were so dignified and strong...Johnson gave the nation strenght to survive this tragedy. As the Kenndys fell apart, Johnson gave gave them strenght...Wonderful president for the appropriate time. God Bess the Johnsons..
jfk was in ireland in june before he died and he reportly told jackie how much he admired the irish guards salute when he was here , thats why they are at his graveside
I a was not alive but I do research and was wondering if anyone thinks jfk would be happy about obamas dealing with cuba recently. not in dem or rep spectrum but plain old american . he seemed to hold the great values of both sides.
John Kennedy was the leader of the free world - and he was leading it well - that's why his death shocked us and why we can never forget him. We were very young and our innocence was shattered the day he died - Rest in peace President Kennedy - we will hold you in our hearts always!!
Excuse me if i write not well english.I hope that all american people understand me. I am 48, same like John Jr (nowday,he died too...). When President Kennedy died by assessination, i remember that my family and our country (Argentina) were very very sad. Kennedy always was remember by me like a person with high principles. I hope that Obama would be like Kennedy.
Obama take care your self of the CIA and NSA Agents. Look the past, the military complex has the real power not the people who vote in the elections. They are the New World Order.
They say that the catafalque that has held all of the coffins of Presidents when lying in State dates all the way back to the State Funeral of Abraham Lincoln in 1864.
I'm with HushMarcia64, you response didn't make a lot of sense.
Yes, there is fear today of terrorist attacks, but every era "feels" different-- no matter what the threats.
The 60s were like an echo chamber, there was a resonance, a strange "bigness" to it that people were aware of even then... Which is why the death of one man could register the same shock as a 9/11 today,
"Yes, there is fear today of terrorist attacks, but every era "feels" different-- no matter what the threats."I was pointing out what is in common but of course every time is not exactly the same.
Comparison is odious, but given that JFK was only one man (and 9/11 killed thousands) younger people might be amazed at its stunning effect on the world-- believe it or not, it was comparable.
Why? It was a different time, and at the peak of the Cold War in the early-'60s... It's just very difficult to explain how that era, both so optmistic and doomed simultaneously, felt--- and how it fed into the effect that JFK's death had at the time.
The Cold War was happening, the cuban missile crisis-basically people thought that they could be anninhilated by nuclear war and the like.Relations with the Soviet Union was tense.I siggest you read up on history. So when the president(the person people felt could deal with this nuclear threat) was killed people felt unsafe.I thought that scorpio888,s comment about the cold war would have given you a hint.
Pearlofiere, I think HushMarcia64 understood my comments, but I myself didn't really understand your "I guess people felt it was unsafe when the president was killed" comment.
What I mean by "I guess people felt it was unsafe when the president was killed" I was thinking of the fact that it was the cold war and as the American president people trusted him to avert the nuclear threat(cuban missile crisis,Krushchev etc)and when he was killed, there was great sadness and fear of nuclear war.Just an opinion, but I hope you can see its plausible.
No ones is questioning the "plausibility" of your comments, just they weren't expressed clearly, so I think HushMarcia64 (and myself) didn't know what point you were making.
All of you are wrong. The worst day in American history by far was December 7, 1941. It was a day of infamy when the Empire of Japan made a malicious, surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
September 11, 2001 and November 22, 1963 are considered more tragic because December 7, 1941 isn't as easily remembered now since most of the older generations of Americans who lived during our war era are gone.
Also, more Americans died in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 than any event in our history.
on 9/11 thousand of people died....a lot of families were afected.....and the whole world changed...america got afraid...with jfk only one persone died....the rest of the world was affected only sentimentally....( sorry my english)
Both incidents, the death of JFK and the death of innocent people on 9/11, changed the world. Both incidents have a huge impact to our future. It's not wise to compare the death of a leader with the death of innocents. It's not wise to compare thousands of dead americans with thousands of dead vietnamese or iraqis. It's not wise at all to compare a tragedy with another. It's wise to think about it and change the future.
How in the HELL was 9/11 more tragic? Most people have gotten over 9/11 and moved on. There are some people who still to this day, have not gotten the assination of JFK.
It's one of the most memoriable scene in the last 100 years. From a technically point of view, it's easy to remove that scene. From an objective view, it's part of the film and cannot be removed. The Kennedy Series on this channel are all from the same source and uncut: Original Documents, including John-John!
B/w film echoes the total sadness and very dramatic and very poignant. So glad I've seen this clip......at last.

What a sad time that was.
JFK was a leader who wanted a better tomorrow.
He never lived to see that day.
It is up to us to make his dream a reality.
Because of hate, JFK's better tomorrow is still many years away.
He did his job.
We have not done ours.
