all the young people who have attempted these solo journeys around the world are amazing, their so courageous cause i wouldn't have the guts to do it, it can't be easy being out their alone, no company for months or an entire year, with no help or hardly any sleep or rest, being pounded by the sea during storms and strong winds in some of the most dangerous waters out there, thats scary, so kudos to all of them and anybody hating is just jealous
I saw the documentary and was in absolute awe of this boy who at 17 was sailing across the Antarctic ocean which looked totally petrifying - they takes serious guts and bravery.
I remember being scared out of my wits in a storm on my windsurfer when I was younger at had not even drifted out of the harbour - this guy was having to climb up a mast to fix broken sails etc with no land or help for thousands of miles.. Congratulations Michael and hope you sorted things out with your girlfriend.
Amaizing! just watched the documentary what a truly awesome trip and awesome guy! . . his girlfriend in the documentary is stunning aswell, that guy has got it made!
amazing how much negativity (jealousy) there is on here, could any of you do that? no you definately couldnt! so shut up and back to your dead end jobs! good on him!
great for this young guy to do this why all the negative responses jealous would be the only answer and nice parents who who bought the boat probably with a loan shows how much they care for their son well done is what i say very well done
Man the negativity shocks me. This is great for a young man to have completed this. He could be doing a lot worse. And crews were not with him for most of the journey. He did video blogs - on his own. Lighten up!
Internet , DVD? TV? and a repair crew sailing right next to him , which ofcourse would keep him company the whole way lol
Why not just get a luxury cruise liner , let him be the only passenger and claim he's the youngest to travel the sea alone , i mean you might as well ...
there was no one with him, he was alone. He stopped in several countries where local people did repairs that he could not. Yes, he had technology on board but this was anything but luxurious. read his blog and find out the truth, you'll appreciate it more.
check-it, who should care that some pretentious, self-aggrandizing elitist kiddy-snob can spend almost $10 million of daddy's and mummy's money to be famous.
like yo, this is nothing more than an obscene and gratuitous display of self-centered, über wealth
@jasonsadventure Him and his family struggled to get the money for him to sail the world. He only managed to get a sponcer 4 months before he set sail. Shows how much you know.

hmm, apparently i know much more than you liltlady
the perham's have a net worth in excess of £76 million gbp (about $120 million us) and struggled to sell sponsorships to make money, not out of need.
like yo, being hot, rich and famous is not virtuous and this is a gratuitous display of the first two to get the third.

But will he be the youngest to fly around the world in a hot air balloon? The bigger question is, does anyone care?

Wow- How does a 17 year old afford that?
