I think the sports fan and music fan comparison is like comparing apples to oranges. With music, yes I can give up a band but I'm a huge Chiefs fan and most of that fandom comes from the fact that I was born, raised, and still live in Kansas City. It's no secret they have tons of bad decisions but I stick around because I believe someday they will get better and they are my city so I have a little bias there. Just being a fan of another winning team wouldn't mean as much.

Metallica fans continue to support the band because they still love the first 4 (or 5) albums. There is no reason to "turn your back". Just listen to the old shit! Besides, Metallica's live shows are still as great as they ever were!

The only time major labels ever did ANY good was with the Atlantic Records trio of Melvins albums. Houdini, Stoner Witch, and Stag are phenomenal records. Of course, when their contract expired, they weren't signed again because theres no fucking way the Melvins will ever be popular, and that's all record companies want. And actually, Melvins albums have only gotten better since then, so it's a good thing they were dropped I guess.
lol i enjoy all of metallica's albums, the majority of the songs on the black album were good, a lot of the songs on load were good, a couple of songs on reload were really good, and a couple of songs off st anger were good and death magnetic was kick ass. ( didnt include their first 4 albums because every song from each of those albums was magical)

You think you got it bad? I'm 42, played in 5 different bands, and watched music all disintegrate around me . Metallica and Guns n' Roses were my heroes, but Axl got too greedy, and St. Anger was the last nail in the coffin for me.

man, everyone's talking about metallica. i don't like them at all anymore. even their old stuff sucks now to me. i would recommend you just listen to real metal instead. metallica is like hair metal almost compared to black metal and death metal. they're just ridiculous at this point in time. they seemed heavy and talented maybe... in the 80s. but since then metal has been innovated (made much better)... in some cases. just avoid anything core related.

Best punk album of the entire 90's was "Cooked on Phonics". Great excerpts include the song "Ez Money (spelled with two dollar signs instead of the word "money" )", and "Oats, peas, beans and barley".
Look the album up, it's one of the weirdest albums I've heard.

I think you totally missed the boat on 90s punk you are only focusing on bands which are adopted by radio and used to make money. Many punk bands of the 90s jawbreaker, face to face, screeching weasel, nofx etc brought punk rock to new artistic heights.

3-A lot of ska bands sold out in the 90's. Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake both had records in major labels (wich they somewhat regret now). Oh! And Smash Mouth! They didn't sell out, they just started bad and became worse!

1-Wolfmother worse than The Darkness??? The Darkness were a HUGE amalgamation of rock cliches were Wolfmother actually sounded like they were from de 70's.
2-90's punk was all about selling out, true, but early blink records were definitely punk (do you know the descendents?) and NFG didn't sell out as bad as The Offspring or Green Day and created Easycore. So it wasn't that bad.

The only time major labels ever did ANY good was with the Atlantic Records trio of Melvins albums. Houdini, Stoner Witch, and Stag are phenomenal records. Of course, when their contract expired, they weren't signed again because theres no fucking way the Melvins will ever be popular, and that's all record companies want. And actually, Melvins albums have only gotten better since then, so it's a good thing they were dropped I guess.

lol i enjoy all of metallica's albums, the majority of the songs on the black album were good, a lot of the songs on load were good, a couple of songs on reload were really good, and a couple of songs off st anger were good and death magnetic was kick ass. ( didnt include their first 4 albums because every song from each of those albums was magical)

Also I don't know of many people who love all of Metallica's stuff, I know more people who hate their newer stuff than like it. IMO the only bad thing they did was St. Anger.
