  • 80s is summed up for me by The Associates but this track was up there.

  • Isn't it shit, how these days many record companies just want bland acts who can shift a lot of units, rather than creating something special?

  • One of the bright spots in a decade of low grade crap.

  • Love it, from release date always moved me. Now Im bigger, 'much older obviously.

Now they can try to take my pride..and thats it, only try..teachers, uncles, aunties etc dont realise all they do is create a person who learns to fight back when they bully them.

Paybacks a bitch ;) Of course its all my fault :P

  • Of all the 80's songs this sums it up for me, great music, great lyrics and a great song. 1983 ?

    Great pics as well

  • Stunning songs, and more importantly, stunning visuals - thank you for posting this.....

  • Wonderful song from a wonderful time. Great memories. The winter was severe but the summer was astonishingly good. Truly a great time and I'm glad I was around then to enjoy it. Love and peace to all who can remember those days. We can't go back but we don't need to.

  • Love it

  • seventiesclassic sucked me off

  • seventiesclassprick, wish i could be a big hard boy hiding behind a computer. Now go and play stupid boy.

  • @capriv6man

    So..what do you think, 5th place..or 6th?

Certainly not 4th...try for at least 6th..then when you got knocked out of the Europa League, you'll automatically qualify for it next season.

BTW..are you going to win the League next season..again ? LMAO.

  • So do I .

  • wow, seventiesclassic your grasp of the English language is awesome. You should think about teaching it here in Thailand with me.With your grammatical skills you'd get a job no problem.

It seems buscargo and i share the same opinion of you.You seem to forget you decided to comment on LFC,not only scouse humour.I suggest you save your 'venom' for a more apt place..

Try to think up your own ending aswell instead of copying mine. Now that makes you a prick without a brain.

  • takes me back to my school days

  • seventiesclassic, please tell everyone how someone who obviously dislikes scousers, happens to be commenting on a song by a group from Liverpool, strange!!!

You'll find The Smiths,Stone Roses etc on a different page.

    Here endeth the lesson!!

  • Ok I'll tell you, you smartarsed shithead and anyone else too fukkin thick to understand...I was commenting on scouse humour...or the lack of it..not musical talent ..as we all know, The Beatles ..best band ever..came from Liverpool.

Got that now..thickshit ?..you must think I'm a manc as you mentioned smiths and stone roses..wrong again dickhead.

    NOW the lesson endeth !!

  • Er, there is only one k in fucking. You are too thick to even swear properly, let alone comment on something. Try taking some elementary literacy lessons - in between shagging sheep, that is.

  • @5overlord

    Literacy lessons, from a Scouse?

    That's a good one.

  • @seventiesclassic

It's certainly a lot better than your lame comeback and let's be honest, you certainly need literacy lessons from somebody. Thick twat, are you looking forward to another season in div 1? Better luck in the Johnson's Paints next year.

  • @5overlord

    Thick twat am I ?

And that's coming from someone who doesn't even realise that there is no such thing as Div 1.

Same old scousers...living in the past !

  • @5overlord

Yes you're right..I'm a thick moronic idiot with nothing between his ears..your intellect is obviously so superior, I don't know why i bothered trying to argue with you.

    So sorry.

  • @5overlord

Thank You , I will do my best to follow your kind advice.

  • There's a good lad.

  • true 80s classic

  • boss song

  • Pure gash. Go away.

  • I once had a poo on some used teabags listening to this song !!! Classic !! Pete Wylie,God Bless You !!

  • good song, but whats up with the video?

  • UPLIFTING MAGIC - FUCK DEATH !!

  • I have loved this song since it came out.

  • Wow. This brings back memories of being an unhappy schoolgirl. 'First they take your pride, turn it on its side...' Such great lyrics and a soaring tune!

    Thanks Dreaming32.

  • Your welcome anytime.

  • Sheer class

  • same here , heard this on the radio yesterday , what a tune loads o memories ...

  • Heard this again on my way home after a cack day at work ...... really cheered me up and brought back some great memories !!!

  • Great track. Why is such a beautiful girl so obsessed by death.

  • Fantastic song takes me back. Love the pics

  • Your welcome,

  • all your maure comments i second! c'mon u blues!!

  • Biggest chart fix ever. How can that awful song by Men at Work keep this classic from reaching number 1.

  • You forget what a great song this was, until you hear it again. Great pics by the way :-)

  • Thanks mate,

  • kipandclair your dead right about goosebumps mad how a song does this yeah

  • gorgeous pics btw...

  • A timeless 80s classic this.

There was no other decade like it for music in my mind.

    Love this song

  • @Seanogoals the eighties was good but not as good as the sensational seventies.

  • Amazing Colourful Voice great Depth, what can one say... Genius with the finger on the pulse of life.

  • pete ? where are u now??????

  • fantastic song! love it, love it, love it! thank you The Mighty Whah! xx

  • Why do I always want to cry when I hear this song?

  • lol me too! strange that

  • this song epitomises the early 80s and my teenage couldnt care less years awsome

  • cracking song. Timeless, goosebumps everytime i hear it.

  • scouse as you like

  • 100/100 coolio!

  • This is the L'pool spirit , deeper than those who just see our humour

  • Scousers have humour..since when?

Oh wait..you mean that joke of a football team Rafapool..right?

  • One word answer to you .... PRICK

  • Funny how that one word accurately describes that little faggot Torres.

    As I said..Scousers have humour ??

  • Hahhaha...same old red shite...always losing...calm down calm down.

  • That's original.

  • I hardly think anybody who uses calm down, calm down can have a go at anybody else for either originality or lack of humour. Look up irony, dullard.

  • If that's the best you can come back with then you are even thicker than I imagined. And make no mistake, I thought you were pretty stupid to start with.

  • Quite. However, by recognising your adequacies you've taken the first step towards overcoming them. Take those literacy lessons I suggested earlier and before you know it you'll be on a par with a sheep, and the envy of your fellow Yorkshiremen.

  • Do you mean inadequacies? Literacy lessons eh?......

  • yes STONKIN tune and voice

  • This takes me right back to the 80s the best decade ever. Thanks.

  • yeah you can't beat the 80's mate was one of the best for music!!!!!

  • Cracking tune!

    Cheers.

  • GREAT VOICE. THANK YOU.

  • orginal clip ?

  • one of my all time favs

  • Great production!

  • Thank you.

  • THIS SONG SUMS THE 80s UP FOR ME,HOW I SO MISS AND WANT TO BE BACK THERE!BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE.VERY BIG,HERE IN LIVERPOOL.I WAS VERY INTO THE MUSIC SCENE IN LIVERPOOL BACK THEN.

  • well the fun part ogf the 80s people actually thought gerorge michal was straigth. talking about wishfull thinkin.but some of the stuff that came out of uk was good. but like with everything else there was a lot of shit

  • Only one part of george michael was straight..and that was when he went into the gents toilet.

  • omg brings me back to my teens

  • liverpool boys,,luv it

  • Bought this in 82 on 45rpm.

  • Similar to mrsparmo, beautiful paintings.I would be overjoyed with myself if i had the skills to paint such admirable scenes as all of those in the pictures we have all just seen.

  • had to open account to say thx for posting such a fantastic song and what amazing pics to go with it. Still try and sing it now much to the discomfort of the local cats and dogs.

  • of the read

  • dave here remember this classic track when it 1st came out dont make them like that anymore

  • Ah the memories of reading am interview with him in Melody Maker. Believe it or not, Pete Wylie was once considered as a replacement for Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood!

  • this is my all time favorite, I have it on record, and cannot play it anymore, looked high and low to listen to it again. I am in Heaven

  • Good taste.. Love this and come back so so much..

  • fab stuff from pete and the boys

    a classic

  • Classssssssssssss

  • It's only half the song. There is a spoken word piece that plays out over the seconf part. saw this video in early 80s on tv. A great song and a great band. Someone somewhere has the official vid for this sitting around.

  • So love this!!

  • It's definitely about unemployment, it was Thatcher's government, "get on your bike" and all that crap, about communities that were destroyed all over the country, especially in Liverpool, where Wah came from. "First they take your pride...." Funny how it's happening all over again.

  • I'd only heard the Peel session version before this, it's much more up-tempo with a Northern Soul flavour, much better aswell, worth checking out

  • yeah i used to go wigan casino in the mid seventies and it does have that northern feel about it.

  • daniel, the songs about unemployment although i see where your coming from mate because when you have nothing left to lose you do hit the bottle. all the same a good pop song.

  • Great eightes flavour! The song is for people with alcohol problems. For me the song can represent many problems in life. Classic

  • my rugby teame is called the blues and they made a video and it had this song and it was so cool

  • Think i still have teh 7inch vinyl of this some where, 20 odd years on, it may be hard to find

  • It will be worth a few quid i would think!

  • If only i knew exactly where it was

  • It,s a quality song and a good video!

  • Actually its all of 99p on ebay, thats probably what it cost me when it came out

  • Greatest Song ever! What's all the spooky pictures about? An uplifting song with satanic shit pictures!!

  • My god, I remember Pete Wylie! Class song; got this goth girl through some tough times at school in the 80's. Love the Luis Royo art too!

  • Was the video for this song banned by TOTP when it was released? Kudos on the artwortk by the way!! I recognise Luis Royo from my Heavy Metal reading days...

  • A great underrated classic!

  • an unsung giant of a song!!! pure class

  • Thanks mate i,m glad u like it!

  • Got the single in the attack great song from the 80s

  • well that's my story and I'm sticking to that.

So let's have another drink and let's talk about the blues.Blues is about dignity. It's about self-respect; and no matter what they take away from you, that's yours for keeps.

you've got to hope for the best and that's the best you can hope for.

  • You spoke my language... Me in a bedsit in South London, early 80's.... the rest really spoke volumes... a northern girl trying to escape but without direction. Gave me the power n incentive!

  • One of the first 7inch singles i ever bought, still sounds as good if not better today than when i first heard it on top of the pops as a 13 year old

  • The Gothic artwork is amazing in the video!

  • Great classic song!

  • this tune is superb... still gives me that feelin!!!

  • this tune gives me butterflies...... all over again !!! superb.

  • does same for me brings tears to my eyes makes me want to go back and live life all over again

  • Epic.I'd forgotten how great this sounds. This dude was in a band with the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen at one point.

  • Thanks i,m glad you like it!

  • i have not heard this song for years,so thank you for posting it,it doesn't sound dated neither.

  • thanks for putting that song on, it takes be back to the happy days, love it :)

  • nice vid one of my all time best songs tyvm

  • quality

  • quality

  • one of the best eighties classics if not THE best ooh im in heaven..

  • One of the 80's brilliant tracks, pure class mate!

  • Even better than the 189 spine road to Newcastle

  • True mate! Before that it took 3 weeks to get frerm Ashington to the Toon by charabang!

  • Absolute magic, the song dropped into my head today after 20 years or so. Still a classic - bravo
