@IronFabianSteel yeah, he always looks so serious and focused. But he is one of the drumming gods, so i guess he acts like he is supposed to. But its fun to see him goofing every once and a while :)
Neil Pert is a Robot who has signals sent down from aliens to every limb in his body as he performs. I know this, because, its humanly impossible to do what this man does with 4 limbs!!!!
There's a moment during one of the concerts on the Rush Replayx3 when Alex deliberately paused longer than normal before Geddy's "meek inheriting Earth" line from Temples of Syrinx. Geddy, stunned, waits patiently for the guitar notes to sing the line with. Alex then played it at a time that catches Geddy off-guardx Geddy started singing his line faster than normal to catch up to the guitar, smiling, shaking his head and pointing his thumb to alex as if to say "you fiendish bastard! lol"
@natedoggrevolution Funny shit! When they Razz each other it's with genuine respect and fun. Other bands that fight all the time should figure out their secret!
This awesome I just read an article from Rush who said that they regularly try being goofy to catch each other out thats what makes Rush the band they are the best!
I wish Neil would appear in the media as much as alex and ged do. He's to shy and modest. If I had his chops...I would be trying harder to get my name out. I think he just worries about how to improve rather than statistics. BEST DRUMMER EVER. And another thing, I hate how alex isn't recognized as the one of the best guitarists ever. La Villa Strangiato- Exit Stage Left. All that needs to be said about that.
Geddy and Alex have been playing together for over 40 years..They've known each other since High School..Neil is still effectionately known as the "New" guy in the band even though he's been with RUSH for 37 years.
I was watching the Snakes and Arrows live DVD, and there was one song where Geddy was aiming his bass at Neil like a shot gun, and did multiple slaps to make it sound like a gun, and Neil was pretending to block him with his drumsticks. I'm going to have to take note of which song
Vai is a phenominal guitar player. He however admitted on the The Metal Show during an interview that Eddie is an influence on him. So I assumed that Eddie was older, assuming that no one knew who Vai was before the late 80's and Van Hallen had been around since the mid 70's. Either way, the Eddie is like Neil in that they both have inspired many to become musicians with their unique style.
@thatOtherDude100 as neil Peart stated himself in 'Roadshow'. "I like Family Guy and it's obscure and subjective humor." I guess Seth Mcfarlane must have read it himself being so inspired to make the cheetos skit.
@quidnick When did he say that? Family guy started out decent a long time ago and quickly turned to shit. i dont think its obscure humor at all any more now, just spastic and trying really hard.

To me, Keith and Neil are THE drum legends of Rock. Plus, Neil is HEAVILY influenced by Keith Moon. I'm not gonna compare both of them, because I love them equally. I'm both a huge Who and Rush fan.
Neil was like well well well you'll just have to wait Alex till I do that roll na na or else it won't sound like the song. Alex is like I don't care I'll just slack off on my doubleneck while you tease me.
One of the reasons Rush is the greatest band ever is because they are such good friends and are so comfortable with eachother that they can do silly stuff and still sound amazing. How many bands have kept the original line-up for 36 years as of 2010. I mean I know John Rutsey was the original drummer but the True Rush Line up is with Peart. How many other bands have done that.
It's no challenge. Read "Traveling Music".In it, Neil writes that when they get close to the end of tour, they start counting down for fun. Alex puts up two fingers to say that there's two shows left. Neil says "peace man". It's an inside joke. I like the face he makes at Alex. He's so goofy! Anyone who's toured knows that stuff like this is needed to stay sane.
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
This is just old school Rush. Having fun on the stage, and playing the most epic, underated song ever made. It's nice to see Neil get in there also, it suprised me a little. Something we've all been waiting to see though.
@nevinkel u know it...rush should have their own sirius station...they are unmatched ;yrically and musically...brea my fast on honeydew and drink the milk of paradise...
Wow, the one time this wooden pseudo musician makes a face, everyone freaks out. So what. Keith Moon made a face like that every two seconds while playing much better. Moon the Loon - A true rock God, not a poser like Neil.
Keith moon, while a true rock god, was no where near the drummer mr. peart is. He has won everyone major drum poll
consistently for decades. He also retooled his style and went back to lessons to learn the jazz rudiments. This drum prodigy has never felt the need for being complacent.
keith moon was all about attitude not technical prowess.
@dirkworld There's more to it than technical prowess. Listen to a Who track with drums isolated and even an untrained ear can pick out the song. Moon's playing wasn't just a groove, it was more or less the actual melody of the song played out on drums with a simple backbeat behind it. And he was very sloppy, but you can't compare them. The genres are so different. It's like comparing Hendrix and Santana. Hendrix was sloppy as hell, but no one argues him being one of the greatest.
@Avedisdrummer09 John Entwistle in an interview: "Sometimes I had to turn around to check on him (Moon) because it sounded like a drumset falling down a staircase". Also- "I had to keep time". Moon was entertaining; that doesn't mean he was talented- especially in our society. The first time I heard a live recording of him I was shocked at how horrid he really was. He must have been at his best during studio time (and those tracks aren't exactly good).
@Avedisdrummer09@Avedisdrummer09 John Entwistle in an interview: "Sometimes I had to turn around to check on him (Moon) because it sounded like a drumset falling down a staircase". Anyone who would call Neil Peart a "pseudo musician" and "poser" is obviously learning-disabled. And proposing that that dead drunk flailer, Moon - who often had to re-learn how to play in between tours - was in any musically substantive way better than Peart just confirms it.
@dirkworld There is no better, it's like saying Picasso was sloppier than Monet so he wasn't as good. Music is artistic expression and both Moon and Peart have definitely expressed themselves.
Hey ferrari40, I get your point artistically. But painting is different. A Drummers Job is first and foremost to Keep time.
That is the basics. if in while keeping time he exhibits great artistic skill all the better. Moon was a very artistic player, one of the most. But his timing was on the sloppy side. Neil is a clock with extraordinary artistic ability. Of course all this is a matter of taste and the ability to look the other way when an artist moves you. Keith was picasso to pearts davinci
@mizzTbubbles15yo Hating on Moon much? Each drummer, has a certain thing that makes them "good". Neil Peart has amazing fills and solos. Whose to say that he is the best though. Neil is definitely in my top 3 list. Nobody is going to love everything. Just because someone like Keith Moon doesn't mean they are "learning-disabled." It mean they like the way that person plays, just like why like like Neil. I believe you are learning disabled because you don't get that. Have a nice day. =]
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@mizzTbubbles15yo Keith Moon played with a lot more than Peart. Peart was not nearly as innovative as Keith was. Keith was sloppy, so what? He was perfect for The Who, and Peart was perfect for a boring band like Rush. It's more math and precision than heartfelt music.
@mizzTbubbles15yo Moon was a great musician. The members of rush practice 6-8 weeks before a tour to, in their words, "Re learn the songs" eberyone needs practice.
You are obviously the one who is learning impaired seeing as in the new Rush documentary Neil Peart states how HUGE of a WHO fan that he was. So before you go dissing all time great rock legends, id suggest you do more research. Ps i think i speak for everyone reading when i say you are a massive douche.
@mizzTbubbles15yo not bashing peart at all but he did take a lot from Moon's style and attitude on the kit... the only 'better' or 'worse' in the world of music is whoever does something newer or more inspiring. Those who got their start with Peart should check out Moon for similar ideas.
@mizzTbubbles15yo Hey now. I think we all here agree that Peart is one of the best drummers in the history of music, but don't slam Keith moon. He was an excellent drummer, and above that, he was the drummer who most inspired Peart. Both are excellent musicians and I think you are disrespecting not only both of them but music as a whole by throwing out insults uneccesarily. Who cares which one is better? They both are awesome! Whatever happened to "All You Need Is Love"?
@mizzTbubbles15yo Saw your comment about Peart(Pier-t). Someone called him a pseudo musician? I had a similar discussion with someone on YT. It appears that some people can't identify true talent. He lives, breathes, eats, drums. It is his life and someone who probably is a Starbuck drinking, iPhone using, AMerican idol watching, Glee Club fan, Ryan Seacrest hair wearing, trendy etc...etc... has the audacity to say he is not talented. Wow! This country has become too trendy it seems.
@blackguitar86 Eddie Van Halen was a "freak" in the world of music. There was no other like him. The greats like Hendrix, Clapton and Paige were not at all similar in style. Neil like Eddie has a unique style of play. Like all drummers we recognize his pure genius and it may be difficult for those outside the know to relate. Neil is an amazing drummer and musician, there is nothing pseudo about it. Go learn to play drums and then tell us if it is "pseudo" musicianship.
@NTR2DR Thank you for that. Eddie is why I picked up a guitar. Hate to bring up another YT situation but someone said that Eddie is not that great and someone else invented the tapping guitar style. Some Jazz musician-can't remember his name now. I asked him to point me toward a video. He could not. However, it may have been experimented with the inception of the guitar but they may have not an idea what they were doing. Eddie mastered it and made it his. I will not argue with that.
@blackguitar86 We all have our influences. Mine are Bonham, Piert, Tommy Aldriged and Tommy Lee. Like Eddie, none of them invented double bass, but anyone would be hard pressed to find an equal... Eddie is just that damn good for the record. Ask the millions that play guitar because of him including Steve Via... Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit. Neil and Eddie are each as close to Gods as any of us will know. That is not opinion, it is a simple fact.
@blackguitar86 He was probably talking about Emmett Chapman, is a jazz musician best known as the inventor of the Chapman Stick and maker of Chapman Stick family of instruments. Chapman, a jazz guitarist, sought to create an instrument designed for the "Free Hands" tapping method of both hands parallel to the frets, which he originally developed for use on his guitar in 1969.
@thebatman101069 That was not the person that was mentioned. I am familiar with the Chapman Stick. I've seen great versions of Star Wars and Other songs using the Chapman Stick. Awesome instrument.
Why this uncalled for hatred against Neil? I guess we can all agree that both Moon and Peart are legends in their own right - although completely different playing wise. Peart is and will always be the best (together with Carl Palmer) but Moon is a great drummer - in his field.
Rush isnt all that great to me, as far as the lyrics go personally. But as far as musicians? These guys are all masters! Neil Peart Is an amazing drummer. Alex Zivojinovich is a mind blowing guitarist. Geddy Lee is , well, really good at yelling at audiences for nothing. lol. Anyone who denies that is simply immature about music. They probably couldnt play a tune to save their life. Thats my oppinion.
The lyrics are some of the best I've ever heard; what other bands have both top 10 in their instrument musicians AND amazing storytelling sci - fi lyrics (at least earlier on)? The only time I can recall Geddy ever saying any significant thing to the audience was when he was trying to save the people who were being crushed at the front of the stage and stop the stage from tipping, which he did super politely.
Yeah, umm, that was a lil joke there from me about Geddy. But in the same sense, Ive been at concerts where being crushed in the front row is the price you pay for being there. Noone has ever stopped a Slayer concert for that lol. I was in no way trying to talk shit about Rush. In fact, my favorite Trailer Park Boys episode is "Closer to the heart" in which Alex Z. stars in. So dont get me wrong. Read my comment closer, and then take it to the heart. Heh....
Such good friends! It is endearing to see just how close they are. I've watched this 100 times - thanks for posting!

Thanks

This is just old school Rush. Having fun on the stage, and playing the most epic, underated song ever made. It's nice to see Neil get in there also, it suprised me a little. Something we've all been waiting to see though.

Wow, the one time this wooden pseudo musician makes a face, everyone freaks out. So what. Keith Moon made a face like that every two seconds while playing much better. Moon the Loon - A true rock God, not a poser like Neil.
DrumMasterOchoCinco 2 years ago
Yeah, but your wrong. Neil plays better than Keith because Keith is more on the sloppy side and Neil is just a genius! He plays notes that count!

YOur kidding right????
Keith moon, while a true rock god, was no where near the drummer mr. peart is. He has won everyone major drum poll
consistently for decades. He also retooled his style and went back to lessons to learn the jazz rudiments. This drum prodigy has never felt the need for being complacent.
keith moon was all about attitude not technical prowess.
dirkworld 2 years ago 5

Anyone who would call Neil Peart a "pseudo musician" and "poser" is obviously learning-disabled. And proposing that that dead drunk flailer, Moon - who often had to re-learn how to play in between tours - was in any musically substantive way better than Peart just confirms it.

moon is better if you like sloppy drummers.
remember a drummer is there to provide time. its their function
moon was creative, but a slopfest
dirkworld 2 years ago
@dirkworld There is no better, it's like saying Picasso was sloppier than Monet so he wasn't as good. Music is artistic expression and both Moon and Peart have definitely expressed themselves.
ferrarif40 2 years ago 2

Avedisdrummer09 1 year ago
@Avedisdrummer09 Hey you call Rush boring??? watch your language man!

@mizzTbubbles15yo Moon was a great musician. The members of rush practice 6-8 weeks before a tour to, in their words, "Re learn the songs" eberyone needs practice.
rushrulez1 1 year ago
@mizzTbubbles15yo

Those who got their start with Peart should check out Moon for similar ideas.
needlearmor 1 year ago

Wow! This country has become too trendy it seems.
blackguitar86 1 year ago 2

I will not argue with that.
blackguitar86 1 year ago
@blackguitar86 We all have our influences. Mine are Bonham, Piert, Tommy Aldriged and Tommy Lee. Like Eddie, none of them invented double bass, but anyone would be hard pressed to find an equal... Eddie is just that damn good for the record. Ask the millions that play guitar because of him including Steve Via... Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit. Neil and Eddie are each as close to Gods as any of us will know. That is not opinion, it is a simple fact.
NTR2DR 1 year ago
@NTR2DR "including Steve Via" LOL, Steve Vai was playing guitar long before Eddie came into popularity...and Vai crushes Eddie
thebatman101069 1 year ago

Thats my oppinion.
vorheezy313 2 years ago
The lyrics are some of the best I've ever heard; what other bands have both top 10 in their instrument musicians AND amazing storytelling sci - fi lyrics (at least earlier on)? The only time I can recall Geddy ever saying any significant thing to the audience was when he was trying to save the people who were being crushed at the front of the stage and stop the stage from tipping, which he did super politely.
nocturnezero 2 years ago
Yeah, umm, that was a lil joke there from me about Geddy. But in the same sense, Ive been at concerts where being crushed in the front row is the price you pay for being there. Noone has ever stopped a Slayer concert for that lol. I was in no way trying to talk shit about Rush. In fact, my favorite Trailer Park Boys episode is "Closer to the heart" in which Alex Z. stars in. So dont get me wrong. Read my comment closer, and then take it to the heart. Heh....
