Great effect to sing this in Red Square in Moscow. However, it should be remembered that this was written and performed by Jacques Morali and the Village People in 1977 on the Album "Crusin'" as a gay anthem, describing the persecution suffered by gay people in the US and the oasis offered by San Francisco in the '70's as a gay friendly place. It is a play on the quote "Go west, young man" from an earlier American work, challenging the young to go an open up the West of the US in the 19th C.
