If you read the wikipedia for "Beethoven 10" it mentions how he intended for the 9th to be all instrumental etc...the thought of no 9th symphony actually made me gag the tiniest bit, seriously
@H1dden1s No 9th symphony? Or no 4th movement? But, in my opinion, the most supreme part of that symphony is its magnificent first movement, followed by the second. Chorale stuff doesn't really do it for me, I guess - though, some parts of the fourth movement are absolutely superb.
@Cloudlesssoul I think the first movement and the thrd are the best. But his most outstanding composition is the Missa Solemnis. That's from another planet
Mr Cooper should be congratulated for producing something very close to an original Beethoven score. It reminds me somewhat of a quality re-production of a Picasso.
I always seem to go about other music to always comeback to Beethoven and find that while perhaps everyone else's music is entertaining, Beethoven's music is itself a cathedral built by music and filled with deepest, tenderest but strongest and most meaningful tapestry sounds.
After composing the inmortal Ninth Symphony and the Missa Solemnis, Beethoven claimed that symphonies and other full-orchestra forms weren't the right tools to express his new and revolutionary style. He dedicated almost completely to the composition of String Quartets, Piano Sonatas, and other "small" forms. This Symphony is great, and it sounds Beethoven all the way. How much of the "real" Ludwig is in there, we can't say. Maybe the same as there's of the real Mozart in the Requiem. Wonderful!
I'm not sold. It's "seems" are showing. This has too much repitition in it to be what Beethoven wanted. It has moments of musical beauty, but it needs to have more counterpoint and more variety in the orchestration (less flute over strings). It's beautifully played, and it is fascinating to hear the master's ideas, and like all of us, I do wish he had have lived till he was 80. But I'm not rushing out to by the recording.

@yenrabaraho I am inclined to agree with you about this. It's a brilliant realisation and convincingly played in many ways, but I've looked at the sketches and I'm not convinced that it is, by any means, B's last word.
@EruptionLaVey To make us all suffer the pain of knowing that there will never be another composer equal to him in pure passion and clarity while adding elements of beauty without the seeming of beauty.
@EruptionLaVey Beethoven finì la Decima Sinfonia... Ce l'aveva tutta in mente.
Beautiful! Listening to it, it really seems as if Beethoven is taking music in an entirely new and alien direction, much like his late string quartets unsurprisingly.
The only criticism I have is that it sounds far more like middle Beethoven than late Beethoven; but aside from that a wonderful piece
