  • Hey Woodse50 is that you John? Terry here. We all loved Sammy, we learned guitar together aged 16 or so round Shakespear Street in Liverpool, not forgetting the Green Moose too. Happy days and fond memories of our dear friend Sam

  • I remember Sam telling me he played on the Every Picture Tells A Story LP but due to a mistake he was left off the credits. This is finally corrected, Sam mentioned by name, in the new Faces biog by Andy Neil.

  • I saw Sam playing in Gothenburg probably in the late nineties or so.I spoke to him a little as I really admired his music. He was actually the one who told me Jo-Ann Kelly was dead, because I didn't know at the time. I remember him playing Not fade away (the old buddy holly song) in a way I've never heard before. Amazing slide guitar. Sam really played the blues the way we want to hear it. And what he did, he did well. God bless him.

  • Oh yeah that was sweet!

  • I once had an ongoing argument with Sam about which finger is best for playing slide with. I said the 3rd, he told me the little finger. I can only excuse myself with the plain fact that I was 17 at the time and didn't have a clue what I was talking about. The 'argument' lasted about two weeks, Sammy called me a few names then I changed and realised he was right, of course, all along. What was I thinking! God bless you Sam. Nothing else in this world like the blues. Luv this clip.

  • What a guy , wish he was still around.

  • Sam: you should have come back to England, and especially London, earlier. Wherever you are now in the Universe, you will never be forgotten. What wonderful comments on this page from all your friends and family - wish you could see them. We all miss you. Thanks for everything. It was an honour knowing you. Chuck in Denver: I remember those times in Putney as well. Those certainly were precious days.

  • Met Sam a number of times over here in Holland, and on some occasions in Belgium. Was a real nice and friendly guy with a good sense of humor. Was a pleasure meeting Sam and see him perform. He's one of the few that I really would like to meet again. If that were possible. Glad to know there's a few songs here on the tube, solo like this one, and with the Sandmenband.

  • That's my uncle. I never knew him, but he seems awesome...

  • @darkangelbabe666 he was am his nephew

how are you related to sam?

  • My Mum is his half-sister. Barbara was my nan.

  • i was taught by sam mitchell when i was 16, pleasure to have met and played with him, taught me alot.

  • Wonderful stuff! Knew Sammy when we were 17 in Liverpool and a bit after. He may have a few wrinkles more there but he's still the same Sammy.

Still can't believe he's gone. RIP Sammy

  • Great stuff...

I remember seeing The Sandmen and Sam Mitchell in the 80s.

    Great band, truely remarkable guitarist.

Is there anymore vids out there of Sam playing reso & bottleneck?

    Thomas

  • Sammy and I used to drink together in the Bricklayer's Arms pub in Putney, south west London. The last time I ran into him was at the Bishopstock blues festival in Exeter; I was truly saddened to hear of his passing; a nice guy who lived the ethos of the music he loved so much. RIP Sammy.

  • Can't believe he's gone. Telegram Sam. Off to join Icarus. Thanks for posting this vid, he looks great, a perfect way to remember him, you just jnow he was reaching for a roll-up or a pint after that last frame. Here's to you Sam.

  • Thats the way we know you, always great, R.I.P.

  • Yet a proof of what a great musician Sam was.
