  • Ahh, the ol' can-tuna!

  • Groovy bike!

  • @996artichoke Cheers man, I think so!

  • love that pop up headlight :)

  • @blackmetal350 Me too! Cheers ...

  • That bike is gorgeous. I like the gold accents on the forest green background.

  • @TheJoeyEmilyShow Cheers! I love it too, for those very reasons and the black engine with gold highlights.

  • nice bike, its really awesome to see how much the 750 changed from my 1978 GS750, yours is now a 4 valve per cylinder rice burner now ;)

  • @YOURANOOBTRUSTME I loved the GS models! I had a GS400 (maybe 450?) briefly and I loved it, so grunty!

  • @YOURANOOBTRUSTME type in "1978 GS750" and it should be the first vid of me "messing around in the parking lot" check it out man its under my other user "streetsurfnn" , it was the suzukis first 4 stroke bike, it had 2 valves per cylinder and was a 500lb bike, soon afterwards came your katana =)... like twice as fast lol

  • chodzi jak szlifierka

  • @rufusetz150 Thanks mate, I have no idea what you said but it looks cool! My polish is a bit rusty ...

Google Translate thinks it says "walks like a grinder" ... I think I prefer the Polish version!

  • @peeteey

He probably meant to say: sounds like a grinder

  • @ecashinxxx Or a lawn mower, I've heard that one before ... :)

  • god thats ugly. and i used to have one.

  • @drod103164 I still prefer it to most modern bikes. Why'd you get rid of yours? Please tell me it wasn't to get some generic modern thing ... :)

  • Looks awesome !

  • @QUAKESNAKE007 It's much more awesome that it looks! :D

  • @peeteey I like to believe ;-)

  • @QUAKESNAKE007 Hee hee, I don't need to believe, I know for a fact! They don't make 'em like they used to ... *sigh*

  • I like the old bikes. Yours looks sweet. I just bought an 83 1000cb honda. I am getting it ready for the road.

  • @cashstore1 Yea, I saw that in your video, that's really cool! I've never seen a bike with a Hi/Low setup before. I love the CBs too, never had one but love them. I know a lot of people here who are addicted to them!

The fate of this beauty is uncertain, I think I'm finally going to have to sell her, I never use her and I've bought a new dirt bike (speaking of addictions)

Bloody money, never enough of it! I want to keep this bike forever, she's so faithful!

  • Nice Kat, it dosent matter what colour you paint them the are one of the best looking bikes in the world and realy stand out against all the modern bikes that all look the same. Congratulations!! The origional coulors were white and gold or silver and black. thanks.

  • @my142 Thanks man, I reckon I'd agree with that! I love it! Am slowly pulling it apart, fixing things and putting it back together. Long overdue maintenance ...

This was originally a white one, can see it a bit under the seat ...

  • I have an 84 in its original black and gold livery, looks stunning and modern for its year.

  • Cool! Where in NZ are you? Do you have any pics/vids of it?

Black and gold would look great!

  • This was my third bike, same model, but silver. Thanks.

  • Great bikes, they still turn lots of heads too and people offer to buy it all the time!

Will be hanging on to this for as long as I can ...

Poor thing hardly ever gets used at the moment.

  • Good choice. I'm falling in love with this bike all over again at the moment, doing some long overdue repairs

  • Hi all, I seem to be having that issue that some other people are having whereby if I reply to a comment, the original comment gets deleted. Sorry for not replying in person, will do at a later date I hope ...

  • Did not know you owned this gem as well! I absolutely love the 1100. Have you seen the 2001 "final Edition" version?

  • Yea man, that final version is interesting huh? So much interest in the old model that they re-issued it almost 20 years later :)

    Good on them.

  • See my early vids. It's a BMW R80RT. highly modified and ratty. Looks 'interesting' but is mechanically great and is bloody comfy to ride! Me love it long time!

Riding it is like a meditation almost, I always feel very relaxed afterwards.

  • Cheers! I love it! All original, poor thing doesn't get loved like it should tho, haven't ridden it in ages 'cause it needs a bearing replaced right in the middle of the engine i.e. expensive.

You certainly don't see bikes as unique as this anymore ... apart from my other bike :)

  • well i have a 84 katana 750 se when i bought the bike it was silver but on the documents it states it is white so not to be a pest and change things i sprayed it bk white but my pop up has been taken off and its been street fighterd i still have the popup though so might put it bk on there a classic i also have 3 cx500's now iv had one of these 5 years and its never broke down or needed any thing some tyres and afew services priceless

  • I own a 1990 750 f katana and it gets a lot more looks then a newbie. They are the real thing ! Take a look at my bike in my profile.

  • yeah old bikes definatly bring back the good times. shit now you cant even work on a new car or bike to much crap involved with electronics and shit

  • i agree to the comment of older bike are making a come back a get more respect.

i own a 79 honda cb750f i parked at a local riders joint next to a new cb900 chromed ,pipe the works and what bike do you think everyone was looking at? my 79 cb750f with sport bars and a kerker exhuast lol.

  • I love the old CBs. I had one very briefly, didn't go and I was all keen to do it up but it never happened, just like my plans with the VT250FII and the GS 450 ... *sigh*

We probably see more of these older bikes here than you would in the US. We get alot of Japanese vehicles and usually drive them till they die, which is a loooong time. My old Mitsubishi was a 1975 colt 1850. Brilliant car ... oh the memories :)

  • Pop-up headlamps on a bike!!!!! Awesome!

  • Yea man, David Hasslehoff eat yer heart out!

  • the older bikes are makin a come back not that they ever left.... my kz's and gpz's get more respect than newer ninjas

  • Absolutely. The new bikes, whilst being great, just aren't the same as these old beauties, something's missing ...

Usually it's an oil leak and the predictability of a herd of rampaging bulls but we still love them!

  • Most Suzuki Katanas were silver I owned the 1000cc one they also made the bike in 750 & 1100 cc form

  • Hi mate! The older kats were almost all silver, yes. Lovely bikes. In '84 and '85 they made these popups which were mostly white it seems, with a couple of other colours thrown in for good measure. I think mine was originally white, going by what's under the flaking paint under the seat. I much preffer the green!

It's great how these babies are having a resurgence at the moment.

  • This is not the original color of suzuki sukuki motors en mopeds(suzuki tsx) are yellow dont tell my why but i think that they have something with yellow

  • Good looking bike you have, don't see green and gold together much but it looks good on yours.

  • Wow, nice bike there, bro. 5 stars.

  • BEAUTIFUL BIKE

  • When my tail light blew every time I signaled or used the brakes the light would pop up.I don't know if this was some kind of safety feature or what, but it drove me nuts until I changed the tail light.Just thought I'd let you know.Couldn't find anything about on the net.Traded my Kat on a TL1000s and traded that on a Hayabusa.Almost twice the power and lighter.Still got a soft spot for the kat.

  • Hi Zmitchl, sounds like you've had some fun with electrics! I've often drooled over the TLs and Busas. I've heard alot of taller Ducati people say they had to get a TL instead as they're a bit bigger but still sound (almost) as good.

The busa, now there's a thing of beauty. I'm very jealous!

Where in NZ are you? I'm in Chch.

  • I'm up in Orewa just north of Auckland. Most heavily policed place in NZ.Got reminded on Labour day with a $300 ticket and 40 demerits.Had Yoshi's on the TL and she would HOWL.I always found the TL better suited than the bus for taller riders.

  • I absolutely LOVE this bike, and the color combo!!! That headlight is gangsta' too, although I'm sure it's a real pain in the ass if something goes wrong with it. Is it factory, or custom?

  • Hey revolutionday1, Thanks for the comment. I love it too, it's my baby. Well, one of them anyhoo :)

The pop-up is totally original, they were made like that in '84 & '85. The colour is not original I don't think. They were usually white/gold. There were a few other colours but that was the main one.

Yes its a pain when they break but they're also well thought out machines and not too hard to fix yourself. The light mechanism has a manual overide hidden underneath, should the motor fail. :)

  • Yeah, I had pop-ups on my old Firebird. They had a manual override, but I'll let you in on something that may-or-may not help you out. Mine came stock with a crappy NYLON gear in the motors, which is why you often see them with 1 up & 1 down, 'cause the teeth get worn down in the 1 spot where the geardrive rotates. I replaced these with some CNC-machined solid brass pieces I found online. HUGE improvement in reliabilty and functionality!

  • Ah, firebirds! One of my favorite old cars ...

Thanks for the tip, I don't know what the gears are on these but they usually fail due to the electric motor wearing out I believe.

  • Mine was a '97 with what's known as the "Y87" option, which is basically a Trans Am with the 3.8L V6. Sadly, it went bye-bye for a 2007 Civic....D'OH!!! I don't know if you can find any of those gears for your particular application, or not. They sure did make a cool sound, too! The lights would also have no difficulty opening when they were completely frozen shut (I live in Indiana & drive my cars year-round). Only thing that sucked was having to epoxy the motor housings back together.

  • Nice bike, an oldie but a goodie.

  • I think the Flip headlight is bad ass

How many miles are on it?

  • I'm not sure, a friend has borrowed the bike while hers is out of action. The two previous owners were a motorcycle cop who then sold it to his friend. They both only did rallies on it apparently, not so much for general use.

I seem to remember the Odo refusing to work after it hit about 81,000k. Whats that in miles? About 50,000? Probably done another 2,000 since then ...

  • bende var katana ama 1990 model helloo

  • The only popup on you tube.I remember looking at buying one new.Bought one last year for a bit of fun.cool.

  • I know! I've been looking for others on Youtube for ages. Thats one of the reasons I put this clip up.

As you're well aware now having bought one, they're GREAT bikes!

Do you know which country yours was made for? Japan, Australia etc ...

  • not too sure. There was a flood of them here in '85 when they were dumped here cheap.Mines still got they original paint which is the pearl white and gold. The speedo only goes up to one eighty if that helps.
