This is much better than the Hitchcock version. I found the characters rather flat and one dimensional. This version the characters are fuller and more believable. Susan George will never be seen as a great actress but she is fine here. Brian Blessed is one of those great character actors who is not seen nearly enough.
God bless Youtube. I have not seen this in probably thirty years. I remember the New York staton that aired Tales of the Unexpected late at night. I loved the dark and macabre introductions by the author Roald Dahl. I just watched this story done on Alfred Hitchcock Presents on Hulu and was just thinking how I wished I could see this version. And here we are. I used to own the collection of stories upon which this series was based. It's great see Dahl beyond his "children" books.
Please stop with all the english class comments... they're everywhere.
I've been watching a few of these mini series based on Roald Dahl's short stories (this and Alfred Hitchcock presents) and I think it's quite sad that nobody seems to comment on how brilliant his work was.
@CaelionBrundwick Susan George is actually a great actress. Here, if you watched the entire story, you'll see that her character is the bad "actor" not Susan George herself. Just as in real life, most people who act because they're lying are extremely catchable if you pay attention to their over emoting and odd niceness.
@CaelionBrundwick Well, I guess she is pretending to be a bad actor. Remember, she was actually pretending to be as natural as she could to prevent suspicion.
Brian Blessed before he started shouting everything
