There are 18,000 color changing LED floodlights in the pool. The water is highly aerated just before each show starts (fine air bubbles are introduced from below) to catch the light.
The light is definitely in the water, but my theory is that they use L.E.D.s underneath the water rather than projecting it from above. Very neat and beautiful effects.
This thing must have been huge! The mannequins in the water must have been life-sized (approximately six feet tall), so maybe that gives you an idea of the size of this thing.
