i grew up in bakersfield about 3 blocks away from the highschool and i now live in longbeach CA and i remeber when i used to hangout with the punks and rockers out side of the school and i went back to bakersfield about 2 yrs ago and i acculy missed living there but i dnt reaaly wanna live there but i missed it when it when i used to
I left Bakersfield 20 years ago when I was in my 20's and thought it sucked. Now that I've grown up, I miss the place and I'm planing on moving back home. There comes a time in your life when you want to live in a nice laid back home town instead of a place "where there's something to do". And LA is only a couple of hours away if I MUST experience some exciting rat-race bedlam action.
@rexorrama : Believe me. There are a bunch of boring sourpusses who comment on these videos. According to the 2010 census, Bakersfield proper now has an 'official' pop. of about 350,00 people, but if you take into account the unincorporated areas and constant flow of people entering the city all the time, I'm sure that the number is much closer to 500,000. There is plenty of fun to be had, and the once abandoned 'Padre' Hotel in downtown reopened luxuriously for business last year. Come on back
of all the places in california you choose bakersfield???i've lived here my whole life and wouldn't want to come back if i ever left.we get something interesting around here once every wat couple years maybe?the best thing we've had in a while is papa roach coming tonight
@taylor22222222 I meant small to medium size cites, smaller than like New York and Chicago. It has the regular gas stations and box stores and places like that. What is Bakersfield famous for?
Haha the first thing I thought of was the Crystal Palace..ya know, Buck Owens. He also started a country radio station there. Not to mention, if you've ever watched TV, Bakersfield is referenced a lot. Korn is a band who came from Bakersfield. Bakersfield is home to a quarter-million people. And according to wikipedia, that makes us the 58th largest city in the US.
@taylor22222222 : Bakersfield has much more than a population of a quarter million people. The population sign reads 338,000, but that is based on the 2000 census estimate. With all the expansion in infrastructure and construction going on in town, I'd say that the amount of inhabitants in Bakersfield proper exceeds 400,000. Actually, even though Bakersfield has a very dry climate, it is actually a valley climate that allows for the large amount of agriculture in the area.
That's right, haha i hadn't know the exact population and didn't read it on wiki, but yeah the population count is definitely getting up there. This video was made about 3 1/2 years since I'd been there and I noticed a good increase in buildings/houses etc.
@taylor22222222 So your video was showing us the legendary "streets of Bakersfield" like in the song. Yes, I've heard that song and kind of like it. I'm not a big Buck Owens fan, but he was OK....one of the old timers. I think Dwight Yoakam did it later. I like Dwight, he has that twang sound. Yes Yoakam did, I just now got done to listening to both of them singing it on a video. The audio of the video sucked but the song still sounded good, like out of a 67' ford pickup speaker with static.
Ive lived in Bakersfield my whole life, as a teen its boring but you find things to do. Yes, gas is expensive :/ You were also in the more expensive part of town..
@TheAnalinee It depends on what type of person you are. If you have very liberal political views, love the fine arts, are very active outdoors, like fresh air, or hate God, then Bakersfield is not the place to move. Other than that, Bakersfield, when you really look, has a nice charm to it, depending on where you are. It's a big city that feels like a small town.
Eh, most people hate it but rcarrillo7 pretty much has it right haha, but there are many different parts of Bakersfield. The only real negative I can think of really is that smog is really bad there. There's a few nice places to see I guess.
Bakersfield is not as bad as everyone thinks it is, actually a nice town and finally making use of all the fields haha If you look up what is the best city to raise a family, the answer will be bakersfield. Trust me theres way more to it than rednecks and fields lol it's just a small town(which is expanding) so idk why ppl talk so much crap??haha
i want to know about bakersfield...I'm english and I'm writing a story about it. Is it a cool place or a dead end? Would you describe it as a desert town? What's the names of the mountains near it?
@track2now no bakersfield is in the valley surrounded by greenhorn mountains. As you go from Los Angeles down I-5 that is the grapevine....A very steep hill....It's a cool place to live as long as you live in a good neighborhood and have a good job and stay away from places like Union AVE were the prostitutes and druggys hang and also stay away from the east side and weedpatch hwy....Oildale is if you live off N. chester that is....Loved it there!!! Miss CA alot!! lol.....Goodluck!
I had a good time there actually. I visited a ton of family members and friends, which I have next to none here where I live now. I did manage to get to go a few other places of interest, but I didn't always have my camera with me. Actually just being there for the nostalgia, I had a fantastic time. Thanks anyways though.
I saved that apartment on the corner from burning down 3 summers ago. I was driving by and saw the fence on fire. I think it was an AC unit that started it.

Man, I'm glad your impression of Bakersfield is good, I absolutely, positively, HATE this town. I don't know one person who actually likes living here. I live right by all of the stuff in your video though, and that's exactly what Bakersfield is, just a bunch of sidewalk shopping malls. And we come in second next to LA as the WORST AIR POLLUTION IN THE US. Hooray for asthma!
Yes, well what can I say, I've spent most of my life there and it just brings back all kinds of old memories just driving by everything. Plus, most of my relatives live there. And the air is pretty bad in Texas too because of pollen and mold spores, same with Florida.
i LOVE LIVING IN BAKERSFIELD. my only thought is if people dont like fresno is not that far neither is LA so what are people waiting, it'll sure kill the bullshit traffic that we have now
yea but umm, really im about to go to college in california and my friends are considering that we go to bakersfield , and im wondering as a college kid would this be a fun place to go? or the complete opposite? i just dont want to end up somewhere boring
Well, Bakersfield is a relatively big town/city. There is a lot to do, my sister just graduated I think from Cal State in Bakersfield and she loved it compared a different one(i forget which). I mean, when you're in Bakersfield you're close to the beach, the mountains, all kinds of entertainment and LA. But there are negatives too like there are many rough areas and very few gangs, but still some. But yeah, I'd go there rather than somewhere in Houston, which is where I'm at now.
There is a picture with like 5 trucks in it! There are a lot of truck owners in roasdale aren't there. ps-this pictures also shows my nose.hahaha. YEA I'M FAMOUS, MY NOSE IS ON YOUTUBE!
Jasmine wanted to know if she knew the person because she saw the apartments she used to live in. Remember she used to live upstairs from us when you where like 2 years old.
Taylor! Jasmine saw this video because she typed in roasdale california and she was wondering if she new the person driving the car and at the end of the video she saw Taylor Bryant and remembered you were my little brother and she called me. I told her you came to visit and that I was driving the car. She also asked about the cute little boy and was amazed she was looking a pics of my kids without knowing it. hahaha.

Yes, well what can I say, I've spent most of my life there and it just brings back all kinds of old memories just driving by everything. Plus, most of my relatives live there. And the air is pretty bad in Texas too because of pollen and mold spores, same with Florida.

i LOVE LIVING IN BAKERSFIELD. my only thought is if people dont like fresno is not that far neither is LA so what are people waiting, it'll sure kill the bullshit traffic that we have now

yea but umm, really im about to go to college in california and my friends are considering that we go to bakersfield , and im wondering as a college kid would this be a fun place to go? or the complete opposite? i just dont want to end up somewhere boring
texanheadbanger 2 years ago
Well, Bakersfield is a relatively big town/city. There is a lot to do, my sister just graduated I think from Cal State in Bakersfield and she loved it compared a different one(i forget which). I mean, when you're in Bakersfield you're close to the beach, the mountains, all kinds of entertainment and LA. But there are negatives too like there are many rough areas and very few gangs, but still some. But yeah, I'd go there rather than somewhere in Houston, which is where I'm at now.
taylor22222222 2 years ago
