Written by Carl Belew as 'Pretty Brown Eyes' the best version of the song is Carl Belew's late 1950s recording which appears on the very rare RCA Victor LP 'Western Jamboree'. (LPM -9977) . The album is a great compilation of late '50s gems by RCA artists of the period. Sadly it is unavailable now, but is well worth hunting for as it contains early recordings by George Hamilton IV Bobby Bare, Jim Reeves, Don Gibson, Porter Wagoner, and many more. I treasure my copy.
Classic Reeves song. It has Chet Atkins signature all over it. The mellow voice of Jim was the result of Chet's suggestion that he lower his voice, as well as the instrumental arrangements of the Nashville sound, that Chet engineered in the RCA recording studios.
l agree with you all Jim was fantastic, but l do get enjoyment from You Tube, looking at other artists.doing the same song.Look at Joe Dolans version of this one.Not so bad.
Your so right, it's interesting to hear other arstist's version's of a Jim Reeves classis; (None area match for him, but some of them come really close). i look at this way, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
Once again you´ve done a wonderful job. This is really one of my favourites. Long live the memory of the great Jim Reeves. One of the most remarkable voices in the history of country & western music. Your friend Ingemar

I doubt that anyone can sing this without changing pitches 2 or 3 times. His voice
was so smooth he carried it through without any strain.
