I would love to have a Bengal some day! Right now we have a Pointed Tortie, and a Short-haired Domestic cat. The Tortie came from a litter of cats that a friend's cat had, and the other was adopted from a shelter. She can jump just about as high as a Bengal though! Such a beautiful cat that you have, and it looks like she has a very wonderful home with you.
@79barkingspider Rescue cats are great!.. for those who don't mind what breed the cat is. Some who want cats want specific traits. Which vary on breeds. If someone wants a Bengal, it's for a reason. They don't want just any average cat. One may want an Egyptian Mau, another a Siberian. It all goes down to what one wants and which cat fits the person's lifestyle/needs.

I dont know why but I have always fallen for the sorry looking or ill one from the rescue center, the one nobody else will adopt and home it comes - so now I have Daisy, a 3 yr old dark torty with a debilitating case of IBD and sad slanting eyes, she is soooo loving tho! That asides I can really appreciate how incredibly lovely the Bengal is though, they are astonishingly beautiful

An F1 bengal is a filial generation 1 bengal, they're not very domestic and will have more qualities of a wild cat. F4 bengals are the ones you want if you want the look but the behaviour of a domesticated cat.

Bengals are wonderful, but save your money and give a rescue/shelter cat a forever home. I could fix you up with a gorgeous cat or kitten, tons of personality. with all the foreclosures and lost jobs, people are abandoning their cats. It's heartbreaking to see an older cat in a cage. Sometimes they become depressed, stop eating, get sick. We try to play and cuddle with them regularly, but it ain't the same as having your own home.
@79barkingspider I prefer adopting too, but pure breeds are really something and you're most likely not going to find one at a shelter. Pure breeds, if you find a talented/caring breeder, are often healthier because the breeder can selectively breed traits. All our shelter mutts (dogs AND cats) had way more health issues pop up in comparison to pure breeds, even with excellent owner care (teeth brushing, special diets,etc). So I mostly adopt, with a few pure bred gems in my crew.
@MephistophelesMyLord I understand. I like many purebreds, especially the Bengals and other athletic breeds. But working for a cat rescue is kind of like having a certain religion (which I don't have). I want everyone to be a Catholic or Presbyterian or Buddhist, etc.. I can't stand seeing these beautiful, friendly cats live in cages and not have a "forever" home. Adopting out a "tough" cat makes my week! Also, our cats are super healthy and spoiled. Cats rule!
@79barkingspider yes you can blame that problem on the dedicated pet owners like this one who buy one or two animals every 10-20 years from reputable breaders, or you can blame the pet stores selling loads of unsterilised kittens at christmas time to anyone who suddenly decides it will make a cute gift for the kiddies... Pets are for life..

@79barkingspider Isn't it also good to buy from responsible breeders and in turn promote a more conscious way of buying pets rather than from a pets store? I think both buying from a rescue and buying from a good breeder who knows what they're doing are positive actions.
