Tens of thousands of singing talents emerged from Mainland China for the last 20 years. However the X factor (= the unexplainable element of a person's attractiveness) possessed by YY has not been matched. She is still my favourite by a million light years.
Both YY and TT are multi-talent, they are capable of singing well in different languages. However, TT being the early bird had managed to get the worm. Everyone's career path is different. At the end of the day, they both have won millions of hearts.
Yes, this song was a super hit all over S.E. Asia in 1971. Yu Yar made her overseas debut performing for a charity concert in Singapore that year. I saw her on TV then singing this song live. It is 40 years since! Lots of sad and happy memories.
Hi chenzlin, back in those days you're so lucky to have pocket money for her records. As for me, I could only enjoy YY's songs over radio and television broadcasts, or in those shops selling her LP's or cassettes. Anyway, her sweet face and magnificient voice still stand the test of time and she will have my full support for many years to come.
Yu Yar was also signed up by Japan CBS/Sony in the year 1974. She released two Japanese LPs and several EPs during that period. However, she did not make much impact in Japan and decided to refocus her career back to the Chinese market in 1976. But Teresa Teng during this period was already making inroads into the Japanese music scene.
I spent most of my pocket money buying her LPs, EPs, cassettes during the 70s and 80s when I was still a teenager. Most of these were produced by Life Records Hong Kong and Singapore. She is still my favourite singer all these years.
I have been listening to this song since 1971. There is this uniqueness in her voice that I can't explain.
