  • Where is the red part of the like bar?

  • The feeling you get while playing this peace is indescribable. <3

  • Venus is not about peace. It's about sexual "love". Where did Holst get his interpretations?

  • @L00kng Sex is more likely to happen in moments of peace, rather than times of war. You dolt.

  • Me convenci que não sei nada de música, pq a cada dia conheço mais!!!!este som é magnífico!!!!

  • Would people stop calling pieces of music 'songs'. I know it makes you sound "arty" like you know something about music because you've picked up that one or two composers used the word but they referred to certain types of music and used the word 'song' to mean 'lyric poem'. That doesn't mean you should apply it to all music. In general a song is a composition for the human voice-singing, in other words. Holst's original title, for example, was "Seven Pieces for Large Orchestra" not seven songs.

  • @khasab THANK YOU. It's a pet peeve of mine when, in orchestra, one girl in particular always goes "I LOVE THIS SONG."

  • pure peace

  • Fucking awesome. Great video.

  • The LSO are the only orchestra I know whose recordings of this suite aren't an unlistenable hash. My previous favourite was on an old LP with Sir Adrian Boult as conductor but this looks to be as good.

  • @pec104 The John Williams version is gorgeous.

  • @patchey1au ur cool :D u deserve a asian happy face delux *^_^*

    and i agree :D

  • lol

  • The one dislike is from Pluto, because he is jealous that Venus is still a planet.

  • @analyticannoyance The second dislike is from his moon, Charon.

  • Actually in France, center, Vénus are very lightely, so beautiful !

  • 1 person might be lost in space, but there's 272 more people who love our solar system. All NINE planets! We still love you Pluto!

  • These songs seem to be a disturbing amount like the Star Wars soundtrack...

  • @ZetaVS Well, it'd be the Star Wars soundtrack that sounds like these, rather than vice-versa, since Holst wrote The Planets Suite long before Star Wars was made.

  • @falconclarinet Yeah, that's what I meant. I could have worded that better.

  • @ZetaVS Tell me about it. John Williams is a thief!

  • @SymbolicDrummer And you, you are an idiot.

  • @GGbreizh Wow. Thats pretty harsh, considering you can't comprehend sarcasm yourself.

  • @SymbolicDrummer I am doing the same thing as you, saying something wrong without even tempting to justify.

  • @GGbreizh My comment left traces of sarcasm. Your comment was blatant and unarguably straight-foward. And please, don't be such a cynic to go around calling light humored people idiots.

  • @SymbolicDrummer I don't really understand American humor...

  • I love how this song is peaceful in stark contrast to the actual planet. Maybe this was once a suitable song for the planet, but not any more. It's like how an entrance theme for a stripper becomes unsuitable after twenty years of stripping.

  • this is the reason why im a horn player, and it is also the reason why im able to live on as it causes me to appreciate the world and space around me.. im insignificant and this piece brings me the peace of knowing how beautiful all of creation is

  • this is jsut how much of a band nerd i am.... i look up band songs instead of eminem... but hes amazing too.

  • I would comment insulting the single disliker, however I'd much rather compliment the 241 likers :)

  • Beautiful piece

  • Men are from mars and women from venus...that must be why men are cold and women hot.

  • Comment removed

  • @patchey1au but mars' song is wayy more awesome.

  • What a sad bunch.

    How can anyone dislike this.

  • I don't know why but when i listen to this I think of Star Wars :o

  • @blackr41n Not a weird thing to think. This symphony was composed from 1914 - 1918, and the Star Wars music was actually partly inspired by it. Listen to the Mars one and tell me you don't hear the inspiration for the Imperial march, for example.

  • @MathijsBuster Completely wrong. Mars and the Imperial March are COMPLETELY different, this ony proof that you don't know anything about Star Wars. The Imperial March is inspired by the Prokoviev Marches, the rythms between The Imperial March and the Planets are completely different. However, I cannot say the same about Prokoviev.

  • @GGbreizh I beg to differ. He took inspiration from a lot of composers. Prokofiev and Holst among them. Any google search will tell you that the Imperial March (if not at entirely inspired by) was at least a nod to Gustav Holst. Yes, Prokofiev certainly shares similiarities too, and it wouldn't surprise me if he took influences from those marches as well - so no, you are not wrong, but neither am I.

Finally, your reasoning for saying that I don't know anything about Star Wars is just silly.

  • @MathijsBuster I meant about that particular piece of Star Wars (of course Star Wars itself has nothing to do with that matter).

Williams took his inspiration from Mars, not for the Imperial March., but for the previous theme of the empire (wich you can hear only in A New Hope), for the end of the main title, when the Death Star is destroyed, when the Millenium Falcum is destroyed, when the Destroyer is attacking the rebel ship at the begining.

  • @blackr41n Much of the star wars soundtrack are inspired by classical works, including Holst's works.

  • @PaintSniffer07 Of course, this is because this was written by a classical music composer.

  • @bertyUK @themysticX The irony of you fighting over silly things while the song is supposed to be about "the bringer of peace"...

  • @Conservative4 venus actually started the trojan war, in history. What a "bringer of peace".

  • bertyUK got owned. Hard.

  • Why Can't people just say that this is an intergenerational beautifully crafted piece of music? It just makes me proud to be human is all..............

  • what was the software you used

  • The Hyaenas are out.

Everyone jump on the bandwagon and take your pound of flesh.

So i quoted the wrong subject. YOU KNOW ALL WHAT I MEANT.

    Just enjoy the music.

  • Beautiful. I love how we all have our own unique picture in our mind when we hear this <3

  • Too many literal thinkers here.

Remember this music is composed on Astronomy.

    NOT Astro-Physics.

How that other comment regarding surface temperature is a top-hit i don't know.

    Generation Stupid.

  • @bertyUK Astronomy? Astrology is probably closer to the mark.

  • @Galactorate

The two go very much hand-in-hand...

  • @bertyUK Don't be a dick man... Also, they don't go hand in hand. And your comment about the top comment, well, that IS astronomy... you were thinking of astrology which isn't really anything like astronomy. Astrology is the more mythical aspects of the stars, like horoscopes and such, while astronomy is the scientific aspects of space... You call us generation stupid but looks like you're already senile old man ;)

  • @bertyUK I wouldn't conflate astronomy and astrology in a court of law if there was a risk to your liberty.

  • @bertyUK

  • @bertyUK "astro-physics" as you put it is not the study of planets in regards to their climates or atmospheres, it's mostly the study inexplicable phenomena in outer space and theorized explanations. Btw i'm 15, and you just got pawned

  • @themysticX

I've already explained below I QUOTED THE WRONG SUBJECT. You're 15 and mock me?

I am UTTERLY proud not to be a member of your generation.

You have nothing of any value in your lives.

You are one of Labour's wretched children.

  • @bertyUK

    Trolololol.

  • @bertyUK Hey, don't hate on our generation! Yea, I know, most of us don't have any value in our lives apart from cell phones, ipods, and computers. But I however, am not like that. THIS MUSIC is the value in my life. My cell phone actually has an antennae :P and i'm 14.

  • @bertyUK How old are you? I also have one question, are you mad, "bro"?

  • @bertyUK Anyone who generalizes a group of millions, I'll never be able to take seriously.

  • @bertyUK Insulting children shows how little you think of yourself.

  • @bertyUK And you are one of the IGNORANT people of your generation....clearly

  • @bertyUK I think it's because they aren't an idiot, unlike you, and they actually know something. Be productive.

I love this music. the planet Suite is one of my favourite arrangement of musical pieces. Though I must say Jupiter is still my top one.

  • @bertyUK I think it's because they aren't an idiot, unlike you, and they actually know something. Be productive.

I love this music. the planet Suite is one of my favourite arrangement of musical pieces. Though I must say Jupiter is still my top one.

  • The Tuba Part Is Kinda Boring

  • It's so haunting, kind of makes you want to float around in space though. :]

  • Reminds me of The ghibly studios cats return 0:55

  • This has to be my favorite of all them.

  • Sounds like John Williams used some of this in "can you read my mind" from Superman. What else has this been used in??

  • @MrGrevy everything

  • This opens with a beautiful 1st Horn Solo - it's so simple, yet soo effective!..<3

  • Some years ago I watched an ice skating performance choreograghed and set to the Planet Suite. I don't normally follow ice skating, but it actually worked, and I really enjoyed the different interpretation of the pieces, and the different order they were performed: Neptune, Uranus, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter.

  • haha I was listening to the classical radio today in my car and when the piece ended I was like everyone shut up!! so I could know the name of the piece

  • 3:49 "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" *Melts into chair*

  • people who have never heard of or heard holst are truly missing out on some of the best music of all time.

  • I had to do a project based on this planet for my graphics class last year, and I still find this music really beautiful. That was one of those fun projects I've done (: I've always loved space, but now this planet means something else to me. Really awesome <3

  • Okay thanks franzis :-)

  • What is the name of this music????

  • @fred9469 fred its called venus ,from the planets suite, holts ,thers some great truly arrived thoughts by this man that wrote this .ther we go peace

  • ZERO DISLIKES!! WIN FOR MAN KIND!

  • @thundert33th You jinxed it.

  • Seriously, I think this one is scarier than Mars is.

And really, isn't it fitting. Isn't love scarier than war?

  • The overall delicateness and mellow orchestral palette makes you believe you are actually looking at the goddess of beauty.

  • And to think this piece comes right after Mars. Amazing.

  • To this day - Gustav Holst remains an enigma to many classical contemporaries. He broke many conventions and still to this day - some of the daring phrases he used have left artist both bemused and deeply grateful. Venus is a great example.

  • Williams, Poledouris, Goldsmith...Impossible they didn' t get inspired by Gustav...

  • @NeroTheIncredible Not sure about the others but I know Williams was inspired by Wagner more than any other classical artist.

  • I love Holst's work and i love this song but i've always felt that Mars and Venus should have their songs swapped lol.

Venus's surface is 400 degree C, rains acid, billions of lightning strikes every day (although they stay in the clouds), 10 mile thick cloud cover, no direct sunlight, air pressure 3x that of a steam engine...

Meanwhile mars is pretty empty... chilled... laid back, kinda occasionally has a few dust devils poking around... lol

    Anyway, great song, great album.

  • @Clint945 i actually agree with you, my only conclusion as to why these pieces are the way they are, is because Holst was writing them in context to the Roman gods themselves. If you listen to this piece and think of Venus, the boiling greenhouse planet, then it doesn't fit, but if you listen to it and think of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, it fits a little clearly. If anything, the planet names themselves should've been switched.

  • @Clint945 These pieces were inspired by the Roman Gods associated with each planet, not the physical makeup of the planets themselves. So when Holst thought Mars, he thought War; Venus, Peace, etc. But I understand where you're coming from with this.

  • The most beautiful of them all. But beauty can sometimes be dangerous!

  • Sublime !!! :-) The music i'd have playing on a star gazing night.

  • the first 11 notes is musical perfection.

  • Holst was a genius. Saturn is one of my top favorite in the whole series. I listened to this music for decades and I will never get tired of it. I studied and played music for a long time. Music is in me and I listen to this music in a very particular way. Bravo Holst. You're part of the greatest composers of this world.

  • I need to get a good performance of 'The Planets' on CD. I've only listened to Jupiter and Venus so far, but they are both absolutely amazing. Beyond words.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • @guitarist41 Neptune the mystic and Mars the bringer of war are bloody amazing

  • @guitarist41

Look for a performance by the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Herbert Von Karajan. Might take some finding though. My introduction to The planets Suite was as a small child and I've enjoyed it greatly ever since. Thanks Dad.

  • @turboslag Thank you. I'll need to look that one up. I've been looking through a bunch of different perfomances.

  • Gustav Holst Is such a genius. My god.

  • @AmeliaShelby you mean my GodS.

favorites are still Mars and Jupiter, and Mercury, depending on how it's performed. love the entire suite though, it is an all-time favorite.

  • You guys won't believe this but, this song is played in the movie " wallace and gromit and the curse of the were rabbit." gromit plays this song to his plants so they grow big and strong.

  • @WolFv38 It's also used in "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea", though I'm not sure if it's in the American re-dubbing. Disney really screws with the soundtracks of studio Ghibli movies when they release them in the US.

  • notice how there are no dislikes? Thats how good this piece is.

  • 900 degree F surface temperature, sulfuric acid rain, atmospheric pressure equivilant to 1,000ft below the ocean, other than that, her song is Heavenly.

  • @DickAllen4HOF you mean ``equivalent``

  • @504379 Is that you badge number? Without spelling police I guess no one would understand a word that I write.

  • @504379 That's unnecessary.

  • @DickAllen4HOF The inspiration was astrological and mythological, not astronomical!

  • @tinsh0es I hope that made you feel good, as if ignorant people listen to classical music

  • @DickAllen4HOF I did not mean to hurt anybody's feelings. If that is what came out, I am sorry.

  • @tinsh0es Apology accepted. You gotta admit that your unsolicited "correction" did come off as condescending. I am well versed in classical music theory and history.

  • it sounds very lonely...

just like space must be ):

but anyway, this is a very beautiful piece.

  • @RinoaShadow All the planets have different astrological characters, (eg Venus is the bringer of peace), and Holst based his compositions on these characters. That's why this seems so calm :)

  • I remember the first time I encountered Holst was when my father (and I was around six or seven at the time) gave me a CD with the complete suite. Venus stuck with me, even though at the time I didn't know what it was. I just remember the simple beauty and how the air just seemed to grow so still.

  • I discovered this music about the same time as reading C. S. Lewis' 'Perelandra' which is about a journey to Venus. They are synonymous with each other for me. It's a hauntingly beautiful piece of music, and I feel sorry for anyone who's never heard it!

  • this is an absolutely perfect piece! btw...is that a kind of computer programme You used for the animations? Or did you take it from somewhere? It's awesome!

  • I think this is the best one!!! Much love to the Man who is Gustav Holst!!!!!!

  • I feel like I'm sitting in an enchanted garden.

  • @neLLykOOk911 wonderful! Me as well! Haha this type of genre gives me proper grammer!

  • in 100 years we will listen this music in orbit of Venus !

  • I love this, omg....

  • We used this in the opening credits of a movie we made once. 1:43- 2:51. The shot was of a mermaid swimming by a shoreline. I got to play the mermaid. Best minute of my life.

  • @TendancyToFloatAway is that you? "Traci Lords" ?? I love you!

  • @DenwarTheoriginal I'll be your best man!!!

  • increeeeeeeeeeeeeediiiiiiiiibllllllleeeeeeee

  • it shows insperation, love, prosparity, and of course peace.

  • @Sasorixsuli why is evreyone making such hideous spelling mistakes or is there some sort of irony I'm missing here?

  • Comment removed

  • @ozy123 Nope; they cannot spell correctly because they are mesmerized by the calmness of the music. By the way, this is a VERY wonderful piece.

  • it shows peace...its the oposite of mars-the bringer of war.

  • Beautiful

  • Lovely

  • XOXO

  • I've searched this music for a long time, I've heard it when I was young and it always stayed in heart, and in my head. I feel in peace when I hear it. Thank you very much.

  • I could not agree with you more mate. It sparks the wander and deffenitly brings insperation.

  • @myriam71290 if you like this, check out Ralph Vaughn Williams - the lark ascending
