I remember seeing REM in Chapel Hill during the Monster tour. My friend and I bought tickets the day before and we were lucky enough to get fourth row in the Dean Dome. Michael Stipe came out and praised their tour manager Jefferson Holt on this night. I believe that Holt was considered the 5th member of REM. Jefferson and the boys also recorded some demos in the Chapel Hill area in the 80s. Overall it was a great show. Memories, sweet memories.
@bathroommonkey76 Saw them @ Duke w/10000 Maniacs, late 80s. First saw them in 1985, Reynolds HIGH SCHOOL (can you believe it?) Auditorium, Winston-Salem. Still have the tix stub. Amazing shows!
what decade, the 90's? actually i'd say it's the current decade, the one now ending, that's not known for good music, or to be strictly accurate, IS known for shit music - the first half of the 90's, at least, was pretty strong
@MultiNickDanger Yea you're right, current decade weak as shit filled with Popstars, X Factors, American fucking Idols. Muck. Still there has always been shit music. And equally there has always been great music, not matter what decade you're in.
this tour was REM doing southern punk rock. real punk. its over now, the southern punk scene is over, and REM confirmed it with these tour dates. its not a send off, its a remembrance. thank you REM.
Loved Mike's (bassist) dress attire around this period.

Great song. Too bad you never hear it on the radio anymore, at least not here in Seattle. In a decade not known for good music, REM really stood out.
