I think there is an audience for train videos, but I'd recommend editing them into shorter installments - to make it easier for people to watch several in one sitting... IMHO.
That's normally not a problem I don't think except for series like the entire hour long trip from Himeji to Osaka. There's just really no getting around it. On my other channel, I have most of the four hour trip from Asahikawa to Wakkanai.
Still left I have a newer version of the trip from Sannomiya to Osaka.
There's just no getting around the fact those videos will take time to watch. If people won't watch them because of time, there is nothing I can really do. I still like them, though.
In order to get a better view of outside, how about putting something over the top of the camera? That way you won't get the reflection of the inside of the train in the video? Hope I explained that right..
I tried using the window's curtains, but they weren't long enough and I didn't have anything else handy. In the viewfinder, the reflection didn't seem as bad.
In the end, though, the goal wasn't to look at the scenery. I just needed to point the camera somewhere while I recorded the announcment.
Most of these videos I plan to reshoot next time I'm in Japan.
With all the 寝台列車 dropping like flies and the possibility of you not being in Japan for much longer, you really should take your son for a ride. That is, if he can stay up that late.
It's one of, if not the, cheapest of the overnight trains.
I would say let's ride it together if I were going to be there in December, but I doubt that's going to happen. Me being in Japan in December, that is.
