I don't know why anyone would comment against this idea. Totally right that a lot of art videos don't fit properly into the categories at the moment, and its not like there's any harm in adding another category.

Great idea, but with respect, asking YouTube for anything is like pissing in the wind. No one wants the dehumanized grey 'new look' but they're going ahead with it anyway so I really can't see them giving anyone anything they would really like.

i agree, youtube is the biggest video site and needs an art catergory to help filter out other type of videos. deviant art and tumbler only show static still images and arrent great

Youtube should have a visual arts category, there are so many different kinds of art on youtube, painting and drawing pottery sculpting, and even things like photoshop could fit under the category.

@gagnonstudio No, I don't think so, he's just against the idea of showing single paintings, drawings, photographs. As long as your medium is video it's fine

@slathas Well my medium is painting, but I use video to promote it. That's the idea here, to create a category where people can promote and explain their work, or to teach or show their process. That's what youtube is all about, and there are thousands of artists who create a variety of videos to promote their artwork. That's like saying that musicians shouldn't use youtube to promote their work because their medium isn't video.

Video doesn't have to be the medium, the finished product just has to be presented through video. I mean it's not like we want youtube to be a second deviantart.

@gagnonstudio This sounds like a wonderful idea. It will have no detrimental effect on people's usual browsing habits, but will provide greater access to artwork. It will broaden people's awareness of art and open their eyes to media they might otherwise not have had the pleasure of seeing. And of course it will benefit the artists. There is nothing selfish about promoting your art, as there are thousands of people out there who will benefit from having your work on their walls.

You do realize, that there are some people, who don't learn well from just SEEING and READING these tutorials, and the art? There are others who are utterly fascinated with watching painters. Some find it peaceful. Educational. Entertaining. The last I checked, that was part of the reason Youtube is here. For people to post, and enjoy, ALL types of videos. Be it showcases, tutorials, or anything else.
