  • This is a show stopper... so good after this who else can get on stage? Not even the anouncer...lol

  • What a great arrangement. This is how music should be played. You need a drummer to drive the band, like here.

  • Nice solo Harry!

  • The epitomy of cool ... and no longer young ... yet the sound and precision of those solos is just wonderful

  • POR TODA A MINHA VIDA EU SEMPRE SOUBE QUE QUANDO TOCAVA ESSA MUSICA NO FAUSTAO ERA BEATLES-A TASTE OF HONEY E HJ TIVE A CERTEZA CARALIOOOOOOOOOU

  • Fantastic!!

Excellent song for my cellular phone!!

  • Didn't they use this as the theme song for a tv program? Maybe some kind of a decetive program

  • Gives chills up my spine every time I hear this. Amazing musicians!

  • Just marvelous. What a band! Nothing more to say.

  • harry is so friggin awesome

  • this dude is awsone

  • Go Tony D!!! My teacher at Trenton State and one of the best ever. I miss him dearly....

  • Fabuleux! Pour mi, c'est un des meilleurs morceaux musicaux de tous les temps, avec "exodus", avec lequel il y a quelques mesures semblables.

  • mucho bueno!

  • Smokin' !! Olbrneyes is absolutely right, Harry James has one of the most recognizable tones ever. His power and precision on this instrument, to my ears, have never been equalled, let alone surpassed. Power, and beautiful phrasing. Harry you were and remain the best!

  • I knew Harry James and saw him in person many times, including three weeks before his death. In fact, my wife was the vocalist with Harry for several years.

Having seen him play, I must say there has never been a trumpet player who approached Harry's complete command of the trumpet. His sound is still the most readily identifiable sound in all of jazz. Arturo Sandoval is the closest to Harry. Harry could play anything he could think!! I still miss him today very much.

  • @olbrneyes I agree. My father and I are big fans of Harry James. I have seen him and met him at a concert/dance here on the coast in the 70's. It was great!

  • ..i don't see the organ.. it's perhaps a mighty Wurlitzer in studio?.. i love theatre organs..

  • candidoj: Agradeco-lhe por por isto video em Youtube. Eu estava pesquisando isto por muito tempo. Muito obrigado de um "gringo" :)

  • Eu que fico agradecido, amigo. Abçs

  • THE ONE, ONLY AND THE BEST!!!!! Harry James and the trumpet equals Perfection!!

  • being a trumpet player I have utmost repect for Harry James. He could ride above all other instruments in the band. What power and tone! He was an excellent technician on the horn and the envy of all trumpeters.

  • Great, Back when TV had some class.

    ...and music was music :)

  • Nobody like Harry on trumpet. Saw him several times. Great dancing. He never had to warm up. Started as a kid in a circus band with his parents.

  • Damn! I don't necessary like the style but you gotta admit; dont see big bands this tight nowadays. Or that kind of trumpet sound

  • agreed

  • Wow Harry James and his great band on the Ed Sullivan show! Harry James was a great Jazz artist...take that you nattering naybobs of jazz negativity.

  • Essa música é DU CARALHO!!!!!!!!!

Ela anda tocando no programa do faustão.

  • WHAT SOUNDS THIS GOOD TODAY?

Tony D is a great one- he got his thing.

  • NOBODY in the WORLD like him. the sheer POWER in his hands...and his EAR...for phrasing...kicks........NOBODY plays like him.

we're lucky to say he was our friend.

    peter and sharon.

  • @TEP251 Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's purely rubbish, an insult to music today. Today's music is an involution, a disaster, a disgrace. This sounds sooo good.

  • Harry James was a true champ! As members of this, great outfit I recognize Ray Sims on trombone, Joe Riggs playing 1st alto, Jack Perciful on piano, Red Kelly on bass, Tony de Nicola drums, of course. Nick Buono must be in the trumpet section, since he was a member of the band at that time - a total of almost forty years.

  • Harry James was a champ!!! I regret not having had the chance to see and hear him play in person. I was not even six years old when he died. What great cats he had in this band: Ray Sims on trombone, Joe Riggs on 1st alto, Jack Perciful on piano, I guess that's Red Kelly on bass, Tony de Nicola on drums. I think Nick Buono is among the trumpets. Those are the guys I recognize. Thanks for posting.

  • Nice song!

The Beatles once sang the slower version.

  • The Beatles did do the slower version.

  • they do on their album, Please Please Me, which came out the next year (1963)

  • Brilliant arrangement!!

  • The greatest trumpetplayer of all time, alongside Cootie and Rex of course!

  • I need the MP3 version of this piece.. Its founded on the Reader's Diggest Instumental Magic Collection cassetes. E no Magia dos instrumentos CD3, também da RD, aqui no Brasil. If anyone have, upload please!

  • Great shot of Tony De Nicola at 1:43.

    How 'bout dat!

  • I actually clapped at the end! That was sweet!

  • so sweet, tight, great drumming from Tny DeNicola even though Buddy was better, the solo was exquisite.

  • if u think buddy was better, you don't know how to listen..........not only was tony's technique better, but his musicianship head and shoulders above.

  • this is music!!!! screw most of todays BS... RIP Harry..

  • PORRA! nao creio que eu sempre ouvi essa música desse jeito e nem supspeitei que fosse a mesma que os Beatles gravaram em 63... Pois é... Faustão tb é cultura.

    * que fiquei bem claro que eu amo essa musica

    * I didn't post in English, whatever.

  • ..that's class!

  • tasting much sweeter than wine

  • wish i could solo as good as him...

  • B-E-A utiful

  • I'm 23 years old, and when I ask my grandparents to know which music they like, which music they listened when they were younger, they always said: Harry James. Now... I see why! It's just wonderful and amazing. I'm fan!

  • Fo-da.

  • Who plays this way today? souns great!!!

  • Awesome.

  • Wow!!

  • Tutto il calcio, minuto per minuto.

  • Unbelievable!!!!! Thanks candidoj.

  • BRUTAL!

  • The Harry James big band is a powerhouse! It really swings.

  • Espectacular! Harry James é o maior!

  • I can hear the lack of buddy on this one

  • Buddy Rich ? Yes, he is great, but this harry james´s baterist is very good too.

  • Drummer here is Tony DeNicola. aLthough not buddy, he never tried to be. HOWEVER, he was a great jazz drummer- listen to some of his other stuff. Buddy Rich once said his favorite drummer was Tony DeNicola. Tony never tried to bring any attention to himself - he played for the music, so, although capable of some amazing solos and technique. He played to make the music happen, not to show off his abilities. But his time was always amazing. Tony passed away last Sept 06.

  • What a shame to lose this great musician. Mr. DeNicola is astonishing on this number. I'm going to seek out more of his stuff.

  • I had the good luck of having Tony de Nicola as my drum teacher about twenty years ago. I was in college, and I had no idea this guy was such a monster until he invited me to a gig on campus featuring his trio. The man absolutely smoked that night. Needless to say, after having heard the guy play, I did not want to play in front of him at my lesson the next day. Tony was a great teacher.

  • I heard Tony play just about everywhere and with everybody. He was an amazing drummer and always made everyone else sound so good. I knew most of the musicians he played with and they all sounded better with him keeping the beat. Probably a little biased since I am his son. He is missed, but not forgotten!

  • Hi Tony! It's Karl Palma, one of your dad's students. I have this video on my myspace as a tribute to your dad. I hope all is well with you and your family. I will be visiting and paying my respects on the 2nd.

  • tony, peter and i (sharon) think of him every day; about the biggest loss in peter's whole life. i am SO glad we are able to start finding these videos...

tony was peter's BROTHER, for sure, and was the best man at our wedding. i hope the incredible array of legacies he left us will help the pain of your loss; he lives forever in our hearts and minds. xx

  • Your DAD was max: never got a chance to see Him ,but you be PROUD ...as he was known by the BEST.Good to see all these responses, regarding Him /

  • solid

  • SWINGS AND ROCKS!

  • I like the Beatles version of this song, but that doesn't come anywhwere even close to this fantastic version by Ted Bailey's Riverboat band on the Ed Sullivan show. Dit swingt als een tiet. Awesome.

  • Hi friend, isn´t Ted Bailey´s band on the Ed Sullivan, but Harry James band.
