Where do you get your silver charts? Also today is new years day 1/1 and silver is changing, how is that possible? I thought the market was closed today since its sunday and new years day.
You own something with intrinsic value that can't be clawed back, legislated away, inflated to nothing, lost in administrative BS, etc. It's not made of debt, it's endorsed by the Constitutions of many nations, and it never goes to zero. I put my leaves in my composter. Isn't that a better use for the leaves man? I never heard about the soil dying over the winter, afterall, isn't snow a natural insulator in the winter man??

(again, only a guess), but in 2008-2010, silver was not known. it was a secret sorta. many people didn't have a clue about it nor its older brother, gold. now, things are different. people are more educated about prec. metals. if the econmy tanks, I think it will go down but not as low as before. as far as where it will be in 2012 my guess would be good as yours. but again, I don't think a retrace is in the cards.
By comparing the shapes between the two charts (roughly 2008 and roughly 2011), I'm not saying the prices of the two years were the same, or will be the same going forward. I'm just showing that they have the same pattern of up and down moves, as well as consolidation periods. I'm not suggesting silver will retrace back to 2008 prices, for precisely the reasons you mentioned. Silver's industrial vector will suffer in an economic crash, but it's monetary vector won't.
The bump in silver came mainly from QE2 in the last quarter of 2010. but the EU debt crisis along with poor US economic data have put downward pressure on silver for 2011.
But the Fed, just announced that their printing again, along with Switzerland, Canada, UK, Japan and even China. Silver prices will be rising soon.
We have only HALF a generation left... we will still build like crazy, we will travel like crazy, we will marry and devorce like crazy and yes... gold and silver will become the preferred money in the world. But you don't want to store only treasures on earth, you need to start to store treasures in heaven.
