I was airborne last class of 69, went to 82nd at FT.Bragg, I met a lot of returning combat vets from Viet Nam who retrained me mentally for combat in Viet Nam. I owe a lot to the Airborne training and brotherhood of paratroopers. I did 2 tours in Viet Nam, one with the 11th Cav. the other with the 101st abn div. If you join, go airborne you will never regret it. The US airborne has more combat victories and lost less lives than anyother outfit in all branches of the services.
i joined early on in 2008 and now im in AIT and so far the hardest thing has been beeing away from family. i have a RIP contract and ill be going to airborne soon. i graduate from AIT oct 27th.but i like it so far. 13F is my MOS
Another interesting note: Back in the day, on the 130's we took a stance in door, had to grab both sides and leap out, we only walked out like this on the C-141's. Guess someone finally figured out is was quicker just to run out the door, less 'Troopers in the trees due to long exit times :)

Cant believe that someone would release that video clip. There are some pretty horrible exits on that video clip. I am surprised that no one got killed!!
Hmmm...how to describe it? No matter how many times I've done it, I always get SOME anticipation and excitement starting at "10 minutes!" Going out the door you get swept away, some sense of freefall in that brief 3-4 seconds until your 'chute (should) deploy, then the shock as you and 100+ pounds of gear get rapidly decelerated and then the (RAPID) drift on down, watching out for collisions.
Yes. A complete malfunction (no canopy) tuck your head in and pull. Partial (canopy deployed but little lift; blown panels or partially collapsed) you have to cover the ejection, pulling out a handful and throwing it out and away to clear the first 'chute.
no that is a static line. you jump out in sticks. were all hooked up when we jump. if you get streamer or a shoot that fucks up you pull your reserve and pray
pull your rip on the reserve, if that doesn't open then just roll it all up when you land and take it back to the riggers, they'll fix it for ya. lol. gory gory what a hellova way to die.

The first point of performance is "Proper exit, check body position, and count."
The second point of performance is "Check canopy and gain canopy control."
Once control of the parachute is gained, the third point of performance is "Keep a sharp lookout for all jumpers during your entire descent."
The fourth point of performance is "Slip/turn into the wind and prepare to land."
The fifth point of performance is "Land."

That bundle you might see at the troop's belly, that's a reserve chute.
