@wowingaga I bought the Holga TLR from Lomo, thinking of getting the Diana Mini for my wife. It kind of comes from the thought of that we usually want to eat similar foods, but can't decide between 2. I get one & she gets the other, and we share :D
When in doubt, google photo sites that classify what camera they were taken with.
Like the lomo site, and 4 corners dark I think do this
This was actually helpful, I bought a white one yesterday off of eBay and I have been debating whether to use the mask or not. I got the 120 CFN. But I thought part of the fun with Holgas were the light leaks. I won't be taping mine up.
This guy is Holga purist, that's pure bullshitt say to throw the lens cap and the masks out. Cuz it's so wrong, the lens cap it's there for a reason and so the masks.
But as a friend of mine once said: "it's your camera, you do whatever you want!"
hi your video is really greaton the holga 120 camera bt i was wondering wha the affect from 0:54-0:56 and is there anyway to get that affect with a different camera like smena 8m
@weerpool14 w0w... (for free?! haha) well how much will you sell it for me?... here in the philippines a HOLGA 135bc cost 67.59 dollars., and in philippine money its... expensive., haha!
This is great, one of the best Holga how-to videos out there. A little much tape for my taste, I usually just tape the film-scratching edges, and the back cover so it doesn't fall off (the metal clamps are really poor, you shouldn't rely on them). Thanks for the vid!
nice video, i live in SC also and i was thinking about getting a holga but im just dont know any place that develops 120mm film, ive been using digital for years
thats good actualey like send me a message if you know any other good tips for like when u do that things so u can like have two different phtos in one lol im such an ameteur
some one gave me a holga 120 GCFN and I seriously have no clue how to use it, this helped me a bit but if any one out there can give me some more tips I would really appreciated :)
yeah..finding a place that develops 120 film is a hassle, and thats even if you CAN find a roll of 120 film!! you can always get the 35mm adaptor.but its gonna cost ya.
and thats why i got the holga 135BC.but the 120 film hassle is all worth it once you get that roll developed :)
I WANT THAT 400TMAX COLOR-SLIDE FILM, MAN!! where can i get those? there's none in any studios in my country, oh please.. and holga cant take 35mm one its just mess up wif the photos that had been taken, but still holga looks fresh always <3
have a question I axsidently broke a small part in the camera where you insert the film(not the part where you reel the film=its on the left of it, holds the film in place) It can still take up film put Im afraid it will damage the film let alone the camera any suggestions?
not necessarily, it's pretty hard to get used to and is quite unforgiving for the beginner. i would go for a fully manual camera, you can learn at lot more, and then if you want to get a holga in the future you will be more prepared and have a better knowledge of manual photography.
@iSMENiqqUH Buy a used 35mm SLR from the 60's-80's off of eBay. It'll only be $10-20 more, and you'll get amazing images, incredible versatility, and maximum creative control. But then again, if you would prefer a Holga, then obviously, go with that.
Has anyone ever braved a Holga N120 as your main camera during a wedding shoot? If so, any comments. I just bought my first holga and I am considering using a Holga instead of my digital camera. I would like to try something different for a change.
I would recommend both. I'm sure the bride and groom would be thrilled with the mysteriousness and originality of the Holga pictures, but i would definately shoot with your digital too. That way you at least have back up! But i definately say go for it!
Well done Peter -- I've been shooting with a Holga CFN120 for a few months now (on 35mm film exclusively since that's all my scanner can handle, not 120 negs) and love it!
Hey, great video! I have a dumb question... I set the camera up like you did for 12 exposures. So when I see number 13-16 on the back of the film in the red window, I should just wind the film up and get it processed? I'm confused as to how I can't get 16 exposures. Thanks.
It's the style of photos taken by a 'cheap' lomo film camera. It's similar to the Holga camera shown here but it's smaller and takes 35 mm film. They were produced in the Soviet Union in the in the 80's and 90's. Think they have been remade in recent years.
You say you tape up the edges so that it wont scratch the film...but the film doesn't run against the edges anyway becuase of the square window...right?
I recently picked up a 120N, myself. Oddly enough, I learned more about this camera before I purchased it than when I paid $200+ for my digital camera.
thank you so much for posting this! i just ordered my first holga online and you just answered several questions that are difficult to understand from just reading on forums :) you've been really helpful, thank you!!
i got a holga and used 35mm. i took it to get developed and there were no pics!! i taped everything and unloaded in pitch dark. that is the second spool its happened to. am i doing something wrong. can i get my 35mm developed at an hour shop or is it best to take it somewhere else.
the same thing happened to me, I used all the tips I read and saw on videos but none worked, I'm just going to use 120mm from now on, I just hope the tape I used to tape up the red square didn't ruin it.
A couple more things. The Holga only really has one aperture setting, due to a design flaw, and that's about f11. So if you were compensating for the cloudy aperture setting (which is the one that doesn't work), then you might have been over-compensating.
Also, the film might not have been held properly in place, due to a lack of a pressure plate on the back cover of the camera (on top of not being made to take 35mm).
And of course, there's always forgetting to remove the lens cap, hehe.
Nice video! I know it will be very useful to me soon. :)I'm shopping for a Holga at the moment (i'm totally new to lomography and holga) and have been checking out starter packages that include filters, angles, and the like. What camera model would you recommend a beginner buy?
personally, in my own opinion, i'd get the holga cfn since it has a flash and different color lenses for the flash, but if your gonna use your own flash set up i'd get the holga "n" hope that helped :]
Really helpful advice, thanks.Have you any experience of the Lomo?Which is better,Lomo or Holga?(By better,I mean which gives the quirkiest pictures?)I'm going to buy one or the other!
me personally i havent used my holga in a long time when i got my lomo. but its also partly that its hard to find a place in my area to develop 120 film so the lomo just has that convenience factor for me. but quirky goes to holga. i guess? lol.
cool video. I have different feelings on ditching the lens cap though, afterll each Holga has it's own characteristics anyways. Just because it's made cheaply shouldn't mean that you have to treat it like it is.
Really useful video thanks. You can get 120mm from lots of websites and the occasional shop - i think it costs a fare amount to develope, a couple quid more than 35mm... worth it though!
I don't know if they have Ritz Camera in Canada but if you go there they might be able to do it. Just ask around at camera shops in your area, one of them is bound to develop it, they also might have to send it to another location.
The Holga is a film camera. You know, that stuff that people used before everything went digital. If you want to get the photos onto your computer just scan them. Now I don't have to explain what a scanner is, do I?
Hey at least he was more help than the guy that told him about the amazing technilogical advances in the Philippines. haha, and some places like Black's (where they use the same machines as many other labs) can't transfer 120 film to cd. So maybe he didn't know. The quality will suck if your scanner sucks as well. In yo face sucka!!! hahahahaha
great vid and tips! gonna order mine soon!

will getting rid of the mask decrease the exposures per role or expose in the frames of other negatives?
stokesy10101 1 year ago
For B&W I tape the back, but for color film, I really love the red light leaks and the frame numbers getting reflected onto the film.
Try inserting creative frames inside your holga, at the same spot where the plastic frame was.

a couple of ways
1. scan your negatives if you have a photo scanner
2. have it printed out and just scan the picture
or 3. go to your local processing place that will do 120 film and see if they'll put the pictures on a disc, usually they will

It could have just been an issue of film speed being too high or too low. Or there could have been a hidden light leak that wasn't patched up.

Nice video! I know it will be very useful to me soon. :)I'm shopping for a Holga at the moment (i'm totally new to lomography and holga) and have been checking out starter packages that include filters, angles, and the like. What camera model would you recommend a beginner buy?
momojave 3 years ago
personally, in my own opinion, i'd get the holga cfn since it has a flash and different color lenses for the flash, but if your gonna use your own flash set up i'd get the holga "n" hope that helped :]

Thank you! What is your favorite film to use in the Holga?
momojave 3 years ago
i like using kodak t-max 400 film buttttt i also like using ilford film and sometimes if i'm feeling like photographing in color i go with fuji pro.
i'd go check out squarefrog(dot)co(dot)uk because when i was starting this was the site that helped me out the most pretty much.

Really helpful advice, thanks.Have you any experience of the Lomo?Which is better,Lomo or Holga?(By better,I mean which gives the quirkiest pictures?)I'm going to buy one or the other!

me personally i havent used my holga in a long time when i got my lomo. but its also partly that its hard to find a place in my area to develop 120 film so the lomo just has that convenience factor for me. but quirky goes to holga. i guess? lol.

Where do you develop 120
?

most labs can probly do it. If you shoot slides they might send it out unless they do E-6

cool video. I have different feelings on ditching the lens cap though, afterll each Holga has it's own characteristics anyways. Just because it's made cheaply shouldn't mean that you have to treat it like it is.

Thanks for this. My wife just got a Holga and this was very helpful!

Really useful video thanks. You can get 120mm from lots of websites and the occasional shop - i think it costs a fare amount to develope, a couple quid more than 35mm... worth it though!

where do you geet your 120mm film? how much does it cost to develope?
thanks

I don't know if they have Ritz Camera in Canada but if you go there they might be able to do it. Just ask around at camera shops in your area, one of them is bound to develop it, they also might have to send it to another location.

FlushedDown, you're kidding, right?
I can't believe I'm responding...
The Holga is a film camera. You know, that stuff that people used before everything went digital. If you want to get the photos onto your computer just scan them. Now I don't have to explain what a scanner is, do I?
jmignea2 3 years ago
hey jmignea2, if you scan your photos its quality will suck.
flusheddown, you can ask your lab person to put it into a cd. then you can see which ones are really good and develop them later.

Hey at least he was more help than the guy that told him about the amazing technilogical advances in the Philippines. haha, and some places like Black's (where they use the same machines as many other labs) can't transfer 120 film to cd. So maybe he didn't know. The quality will suck if your scanner sucks as well. In yo face sucka!!! hahahahaha

i really want a Holga, but how do you get the pictures from the camera and into the computer?
FlushedDown 3 years ago
Here in the Philippines, there are photo developing centers that give you the option of printing your pictures to a CD :)
