No one hates you rofl, stop giving yourself so much Credit. As a citizen of Germany(born and raised there) I can tell you no one hates you. People don't necessary like what the US government does, but they certainly don't hate Americans. God, "everyone hates us americans" is my least favorite quote. Your giving yourself way too much credit.
But for the most part, the USA is very monolingual and very obese. Just a note.
I am not. To be frank, have you lived in Europe before this time? Have you even ever been there? I've travelled and lived in a lot of different places in Europe. So I have have seen their views of Americans. You on the other hand just watch your little American news and reports and random guys on Youtube who say everyone hates America.
Listen, this was a response video as part of a discussion. I do not think that anyone hates me in particular, and based on your condescending tone in your responses to me, it sounds like YOU have a little hate goin' on yourself.
And what do you really know, anyways? You are just a kid. And further more, you know nothing about me, so keep your judgements to yourself. Moron.
I agree with you said 100%. I had similar experiences abroad, particularly in England when I went their with my class. For example, we asked people in the street for directions and no one responded to us and kept walking totally ignoring us. It is so sad people abroad see us so negatively. What they don't realize is that though we our together a country we do not think and act the same. Everyone is different and no one choses to be born where they're born.
I don't let those people bother me though. If they decide to judge me because I come from America they're simply not worth my time. Every country I've gone to abroad I've learned the language at least to a basic level. I always speak the native language to the locals. I'm respectful to all. If that's not enough I don't know what is. Maybe this November with a new president and change in government things will become better? I sure hope. =)
Most of all, however, people need to be open-minded and not judge who they don't know!! End of story! Thanks for posting this video, well over ***** !
Just out of curiosity, in the end did you find you had any negative attitudes expressed while you were there? I know there were a lot of positive ones (that I heard about you anyway!)
My own experiences as a dummkopf Ausländer who hasn't bothered learning the language have been nothing short of amazing.
Unfortunately, yes. During my first week in Berlin I had a few rather unpleasant experiences, one of which involved being called a dumb Amerikanerin to my face. Unfortunately, I think that the prejudices I found in Germany did not revolve solely around my poor language skills, but more around the rather high level of American hate right now.
Oh, on a personal level that sucks, but on an abstract level it's interesting. I wonder if it's a big city vs small country town thing, or if by not being American, I don't see that side of it?
It's so weird being on the pointy end of prejudice. I came across it in Mozambique where the black/white prejudice is reversed with people like the police. I think everyone should experience it at least once, but it was great to get out of there.
I was studying in Vienna for 2 and a half months (with 10 days in Berlin), and I never once got any American hate, so I wouldn't worry about it. I got some light hearted making-fun-of, but you can just do it right back!!
You'll be fine in Germany. I found traveling around Europe that in general they don't hold individuals responsible for the actions of our government. They hate the Americans that act ignorant and that make no effort to respect their country and their culture. They'll use any excuse to "exempt" you from the standard American. For example, everyone told me I was okay because I was from California. I saw more anger between Europeans, many Dutch still are angry at Germany over WWII.
I will never understand why are there people who can hate or judge persons by where have they born... We can´t chose where! and Why do they do that? We are all different and that is the most beautiful thing!
and I thought you were about to say it at the end but you didn't, I did read somewhere (and I don't the exact %) but apparently a very high percentage of Americans never leave the US or indeed have no desire to.
I don't know if this post means my video or your comment shouldn't be taken 100% serious. I would like to think you were referring to your comment, otherwise that is kind of rude, coming from you. :(
And if it were THAT easy to impose change, then I think many people would be much happier with us, myself and other Americans included. And number three on your list is a major cultural difference that I admire about Germans. I think we could use a little lesson in humility.
People have always hated Americans. I was in the Navy in the early 80's. I was on a ship in the Mediterranean so we went to pertty much evey country boardering it. We were warned about the same thing back then. It is nothing new, the only difference is the instant media we have now and no accountability.
I will say this, you will represnt the US well when you go to Germany.
KUDOS to you for studying German and planning a trip. That's fantastic.
As for your response here, I find myself just sitting back and taking it all in. I'm not sure I have words. But more importantly, you have my mind moving. Thank you for that.
Wow. It reminded me of that period of time after 9/11 when so many people had displayed those plastic (or latex??) U.S. flags that gripped to their side windshields. After a month or so, they were all looking torn and tattered, and I kept wondering why people didn't just take them down or get new ones.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I saw this flag and it looked so sad and worn out and I immediately felt the symbolism there...but I had no idea I was going to use it in a video.
Labeling people by their nationality in their passports sucks a lot. That's like labeling people by their religion. And this as everyone knows caused a lot of trouble in human history.
well lets face it, its not just america that is hated, their are people in every country that hate the whole world!

It's quite easy:
make your politicians doing this:
Stop starting wars.
Stop to ignore global warming
Stop to act arogant against other countrys.
this post should not be taken 100% serious

A lot of us are trying to get them to knock some of those things off. The key is getting people in office who will really listen.

I wanted to say my comment should not be taken to serious, to avoid that anybody thinks I'm rude. I'll do a videoresponse explaning myself, ok ?
