If you take off the gear box cover the torque values are uncertain. In the Vectrix repair manual there are two different sets of torque values for the gearbox cover bolts. One says 12 N-m (10 ft-lbs), the other says 18 N-m (13 ft-lbs). I wrote to Vectrix to ask which set of specifications were accurate, but didn't hear back from them. I recommend using the lower value, as I broke a bolt during this modification at 13 ft-lbs. I will try to update the video.
I did the modification at about 11,000 miles - the oil looked clean. The grinding sound that I had been hearing turned out to be a nail stuck through the side of the rear tire scraping on the inside of the left swing-arm.
Design flaw - no way to add gear oil to the gearbox. Some Vectrix owners have found that the gear oil level was low. Symptoms: noisy/grinding from rear wheel. I thought mine was making more noise than usual, so I took it apart to see if the oil was low (no other way to check) and since I had it apart I made the modification. Turns out my oil was not low, but now my anxiety level has decreased ;-)
This video was so clear and easy to follow, oob. Really looks professionally done. Great job.

Thank your for this video and torque values.
It will greatly help me replace my rear tire and bent disc.

Great video Dave :D
Love the idea of using that sleeve while drilling.
cctevo - the modification allows you to top up the oil without having to take the gearbox cover off.
Since you have to do most of the work to change it the first time anyway, you may aswell do it then.
Oobflyer - how many miles does your odometer read?
How was the oil looking when it came out?
