such a wonderful country it was when we were united we still are in our hearts but some how for few persons wrested interests Hindustan ki Bholi Bhali Janta ...... ko Bhai Bhai ko Alag kar diya i really wish some day will change the table around n we will become one again physically.....in our hearts we are still one....shayeed hum sabhi jo iss generation ke hain yeh nahi ho payega but i feel that some day it will happen......
There is also the famous Frere Hall and the Karachi Port tower in the background when the shot is made from the back of the ship when the soldiers are leaving.
Karachi Cantonment is also there and near it was the Cantt Railway Station. The camels were around on the streets until the 70s. At 2:50 there is a name Rattan Books, which most likely was on Elphinstone St. Also the Dome in Clifton is a famous landmark. Prior to this @3:53 is the dome of the Sindh Assembly Bldg (Burns Rd).

Excellent. This is Karachi, no doubt. The Cotton Exchange is, I think on Queen's Road (later changed to Moulvi Tamizuddin Rd), I also think it was made of pink stone. There is an ad board on a cart (@1:12) which is advertising Elphinstone Dyeing Co. There also used to be an Elphinstone St, which became part of the Saddar shopping area. The Imperial Bank of India Bldg was on McLeod Rd. This became the State Bank Bldg and then a new concrete Bldg was built for the State Bank of Pakistan nearby.
at 1:46 A BEST double-decker Bus can be seen pulling a trailer also with the BEST insignia.
The bus shown in this video clearly has BEST written on one side. BEST ( Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) was established in 1873, the BEST operates one of India's largest fleets of buses. (source:wiki)
One of my friend is wrong in writing that double decides were not in Karachi. During my school days I use to travel in double deckers in Karachi. This is filmed in Karachi and not Mumbai
This is unmistakably Karachi, great video thanks for sharing. It brings back so many old memories. It was one of the cleanest cities in the subcontinent. Yes there were double decker buses and tramways throughout the city and great sandstone buidlings some which survive to this day.
yes it took me to my childhood. I remember the old Karachi when the commuters used to use double-deckers buses and trams. I have also travelled in both.. .
Great Video of Old Karachi. Thanks for sharing. Some people in the comments indicate that this is Not Karachi, they think its maybe Bombay due to Hindi signs, and Double decker buses. Back in those days, Karachi was part of India anyway, and most signs were either in English, Urdu and Hindi. Even the early Pakistani Currency notes had Hindi written on it and were issued by State Bank of India, later on during 1950s, the State Bank of Pakistan started printing its own currency.
A couple of interesting points: at 1.45 the double decker tram is marked BEST. Could it have been the Bombay Electric Supply & Transport undertaking which still runs buses in Mumbai. Also at 4.30 we see station signs of Karachi Cantt which include one in Hindi.
@ABN397 At 3:00 there is a sign in English and Gujarati. This could either mean that there were a lot of Gujaratis in Karachi at that time (which is a fact), or that park scene was from Bombay where there was a predominance of Gujaratis at that time.
Beautiful video, sad part is after such a long time, things have taken a turn for the worse ... it looks pathetic now

Split seconds footage at 8:53 was shot in Bombay. Karachi had no double decker diesel trams. Rest of the footage is from good old Karachi.

@radonpq99 You can still find those Tram-Tracks in some parts of Karachi. And yes, Hindi still displays on few older buildings as well.
