  • The closer your hand is to the machine the higher the pitch, and natually vice-versa. It looks like the vibrato and or tremelo is controlled by the rapid back and forth movement of the hand. I heard your attempt at the melody of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The first two intervals go upward to either a Major 7th or an Octave so the secondary axis is very steep. The first pitch is the tonic. I hear Leon Theremin was married to a black woman.

  • thanks...throughout the video...the sound of wood !!

thanks for showing us inside too !

  • It is very nice of the staff to allow visitors to play this 1928 instrument, considering that there are perhaps only 100 or so left of the about 500 made, and that they are now worth more than $6,000 each.

  • I HAVE to make a trip up there! I only live a few hours away...

  • Thats way cool man! Did I hear a Somewere over the rainbow?

Thats really cool your lucky! Were is the museum located?

  • The museum is located in Bellingham, WA. It's pretty much the last major city before the Canadian border.

  • Wow, that means I don't have an excuse NOT to go ... or is that I have a good excuse TO go? It's probably about a six hour trip, but I'll be up that way anyway before too long, I'm sure.

  • The museum is open 11am to 4pm Wednesdays thru Saturday. I'm the resident Thereminist there and am usually around during business hours, so feel free to ask for me. It's a pretty cool place overall. Theres a lot of neat and rare items in the collection which will appeal to the vast majority of people. The museum also has their own FM radio station as well.

  • So you work there? I'll definately have to make the trip one of these Saturdays and make a video of my own. :) Do you live in Bellingham?

  • Yeah I live in Bellingham so the museum is relatively close. It's a great city to check out if you haven't been before.

  • I'll be going up there this Saturday to try my hand at the Theremin!

  • You lucky bugger! I've got to go do that!
