Gary had the best stage attitude, love that glowering charisma. This song is every nightmare I have ever had, boiled down to a terrifying drone. Bloody brilliant.
Hard to believe I was into all things tubeway army once. I played the album until it melted. It's probably now viewed as a bit gloomy but at the time noone had heard a style like this before, it was a benchmark of what could be chieved with the technology to hand at the time.

Chris Payne has a Mini Moog on top of a Poly Moog. He just plays the Mini. Billy Currie (on loan from ultravox) appears to have a small ARP Axxe and a string machine like a ARP or Elka.
Who is playing guitar? The late Paul Gardner is on Bass and Ced Sharpley on drums.

People have been asking who the guitarist was on this clip. I heard that it was Gary Robson who was Numan's best mate and was the guy who created the famous Tubeway Army face from the 'That's too Bad' single cover. I could be wrong and I can't remember where I heard it but it does look like him.
Why Gary hasn't thought of opening a chain of restaurants with a futuristic theme called Zom Zoms, boggles my mind. After all...it is "a place to eat."
Maybe he just can't make it look like it was built in one day....sigh

The thing that makes Gary Numan amazing is the fact that his live performances are great. Numan will be remembered in history as one of the most progressive artists long after we are all gone.
I remember talking to a friend about the "Cars" video. he commented that the drummer, Cedric Sharpley was "Always Chewing Gum." Seems he's chewing in this clip as well.
This is a spine-chillingly great song . Reminds me of War Of The Worlds for some reason!! Still sounds great now & live too. Just great Numan material. Plus Bob Harris still sounds the same eh?!!
electro ! pop ! ? You are indeed a twat , fuckamericanidiot , this is more newwave post punk with added synths... first electropop labelled bands were probably depeche mode and human league etc. although ,the league started off more edgy and less poppy , like this track
You're right these other americanidiots are fucking clueless to the vibe on the music scene in Britain at that time. Ground breaking stuff at the time (along with the likes of Japan and early Jon Foxx/Ultravox) and the electro synthipop thing came later and was basically the comercialisation of what the likes of Numan were originally doing. I agree with you about the leage as well and although Depeche mode started kinda lightwieght poppy they later became kinda more edgy.(personal Jesus etc.)

I remember talking to a friend about the "Cars" video. he commented that the drummer, Cedric Sharpley was "Always Chewing Gum." Seems he's chewing in this clip as well.

Why do people have to start arguing and swearing when they are supposed to be watching a classic, brilliant, influencial video like this?
Thier mentality is beyond me.

This is a spine-chillingly great song . Reminds me of War Of The Worlds for some reason!! Still sounds great now & live too. Just great Numan material. Plus Bob Harris still sounds the same eh?!!

Nothing better than synth-punk with punk guitars!

this is not punk :), this was made for the mainstream, and i don't mind :)

electro ! pop ! ? You are indeed a twat , fuckamericanidiot , this is more newwave post punk with added synths... first electropop labelled bands were probably depeche mode and human league etc. although ,the league started off more edgy and less poppy , like this track

you know it, bro

You're right these other americanidiots are fucking clueless to the vibe on the music scene in Britain at that time. Ground breaking stuff at the time (along with the likes of Japan and early Jon Foxx/Ultravox) and the electro synthipop thing came later and was basically the comercialisation of what the likes of Numan were originally doing. I agree with you about the leage as well and although Depeche mode started kinda lightwieght poppy they later became kinda more edgy.(personal Jesus etc.)
