It could be reference points to something. The location of altairs apple is the apple at the top of the triangle and the other points are something else entirely. Not everything is the same as your first thought.

woah, this reminds me of something: when you finish AC1 and Desmond gets Eagle Vision you can scan around the room and see stuff like that, in AC2, the very beginning, you can turn on Desmonds Eagle Vision and you'll see MOST of all the stuff that was in AC1 is there except 2 glyphs, i recon these are the glyphs that are missing in AC2 (I may be wrong that thes are the ones but I don't have time to install the game again to test it out)
