  • Yes the trailer can be separated from the tractor. In fact for many years it was common practice to replace the tractor and keep the trailer. In the 20s technology provided new motorized tractors coupled to the old horse drawn trailers

  • @studpuppy

Cus its FDNY not nyfd so get ur shit rite

  • Guys, a very looser question: what's the difference between ladder and aerial? As I think, aerial is an official group-name of different kind of ladder trucks, ladder is the "public" name of these rigs. Is that correct?

  • so there not a lightfroce ?

  • and the best thing is leather doesnt melt or burn

  • youcallmesir. imma fire fighter in training. and if you better shut the fuck up about the NYFD. 911 you forget that day? who cares if they are behind. every dept risks their lives. so dont bash the dept. fuck you

  • @dacrowe24 FDNY

  • @flames41418 NYPD. So why not NYFD???

  • Hey you just don't go defending black gear like that ass hole

  • NYFD? wtf is the NYFD ive heard of FDNY matter of fact my cousin is a new york city fireman and youre gonna sit here and bash them saying theyre years behind everybody else when FDNY is one of the most history rich and dilligent departments in the world. So what if they wear leather helmets and black turnout gear its called tradition and until you understand that and that its not NYFD is FDNY you have no room to talk buddy get your shit straight before you write down your thoughts

  • yea their gear is up to nfpa standard for example i volly in carroll county md and my dept just bought bailout devices invented by A FDNY FIREFIGHTER which has SAVED lives...man what is with people? drumminkid67 u have a point its tradition i own a leather myself and id trust that before id trust those new age "turtle shell" helmets.

  • Did you write this on every video, just looking to piss someone off? Oh and by the was FDNY gets more fires then LA, Chicago, and Boston combined in a year. And their gear hasn't seemed to fail them yet.

  • you obviously suffer from a rectal cranial inversion. leather fire helmets are as good if not better than modern or plastic traditional helmets. not to mention the color of gear has no effect on how the department does. The FDNY is not only a well disciplined department, but for the size, they sure do know how to get things done safely. And they keep tradition alive.

  • Stay Gold

    God Bless

  • Strength and Honor

    "Invictus"

  • thanks

  • And to think, 100 years ago they were nothing more then long carts with ladders on then...

  • yea, now we have these. how far we have come

  • she look´s pretty woooooow :)

  • This is going to sound like a real stupid question (I'm neither a firefighter nor a truck driver), but can the tractor separate from the rest of the unit?

  • yes .

    articulated truck = detachable/separable units

    Pat

  • The TDA (aka tiller) is assembled like a Tractor Trailer. You have the tiller man on the back. When the truck makes a turn, he spins the back part of the truck around using his wheel in his little box on the back. They're commonly seen in major/densely populated cities becuase a tiller has greater manuverability comapared to a standard Tower/Aerialscope.

  • It's also the only vehicle in the world that can drive in 2 lanes at once : )

  • lol! 2 lanes at once? we can block off all 4 of the interstates lanes with ours almost.

  • 29's yah

  • You can't beat the tiller for maneuverability.

  • EVIDENT

  • Yep...esspically with the highly trained Apparatus Operators that drive them in Los Angeles.

  • @RDG484

Well... you can build a 100ft ladder un a 10m truck...

  • My Grandpa was a 'tillerman' back in his day.

  • Those types of fire apparatus are called "ariel tillers" just FYI...

  • Yea but they are also called TDA ladders (tractor drawn aerial)ladders.

  • Ya gotta love a tillered aerial.

  • no doubt
