haha, nice! Liked the reaction.... it's not about the equipment but how you rock the crowd.. And James doesn now how to do that even with a 40 euro plastic controller.
For me DJ-ing isn't just mixing one track into another....everyone can practice that to perfection, with or without these new tools...DJ has to choose good tunes and mix them in order to hypnotize the crowd and drive them through the music...That's just my opinion so don't give me a shity reply's...)))
you're exactly right. It's not about the equipment, it's about reading the crowd and playing the music to hype it up and travel a mystical journey of sound.
Yep, the spectators don't give a damn. My "lame" comment was more about (yea... youtube generation, simplifying everything to a word) how everything is getting automated in the DJing world. Yet, everybody tells me it allows them to push their "art" to the limit. That's not really what reality is showing... as you probably know!
IMHO beeing a DJ does not primary mean to be able to do everything manual, even if it's very very helpful sometimes.
Beeing a DJ - from his listeners point of view - means to entertain masses, and if it helps to push the crowd, it's ok for me to use software instead of belt driven turntables with an analog mixer. i think nobody is scared today using FX on a DJM 800 and time-coded vinyl, which seemed to be doom a few yrs ago, in 4 years nobody will be wonder about guys using midi-controllers
Guess what a crossfader is? A gate is the same thing with a variable threshold. Not being a hater here... just commenting... you set the value of my comments.
hey, i'm just saying, a tool is a tool. i'm pointing out that what you see as "lame" I see as a nice utility to have...
and it's quite obvious that from all my turntable days that the gated effect was done with the fader. automation just has the potential of making life a little simpler. =]
Ok, what I would like to know is: "what was that hardware controller (with the touchpad & buttons (i think)) and how was it linked to the software; what fx, etc"...
Thanks. Gotta get me a one of those. Seems like a "no nonsense"-midi controller alltogether, and very affordable indeed. Propably will be great controlling the FX of the new Traktor Scratch Pro with one of those...
