when he played this song with my band during a band camp he played half of the carnival of venice with one finger, the trumpets lets just say missed our cue to come in because none of us cared and was just watching him in amazement.
I have friends from all state that got to see vizzutti during a clinic of some sort , but during this clinic vizzutti was playing while spinning his trumpet around 360 degrees on his lips... crazy man
conductor does look fail and i like how no one noticed instead of just one hand he fingered with his left hand which is backwards for him and most people
lol speaking of playing w no hands, i got to see Kathy Jensen from the Hornheads fin one of their songs (i think head case) on some ungodly altissimo with no hands, first time she had done that she said =D
That makes it all the more impressive. I don't know if you can play the trumpet, but I know how difficult it is to finger with the left hand. That impresses me even more!
My section is trying to come up with a response to the trombones (they are attempting suicides) and we were thinking of doing the trick where you all reach over to the left and play each others' trumpets, but I was thinking that since I am on the side where nobody would be fingering my trumpet, I would play it with my left hand while playing my neighbor's with my right.
It would be even cooler if we had different parts.
Uh, whatever you say. Sorry I can't organize ten people with busy schedules to get together and make a youtube video to prove to people I don't know that I can play the trumpet.
The funny thing is that the Carnival of Venice is actually easy (just get the finger memory of the F major scale, and it's just mostly first-valve stuff). Now, the arrangement of Carnival of Venice that Allen Vizzutti created (not the one in this clip) is HARD - it's called the Carnival of Venus, and is ridiculous!
A very small percentage of musicians actually post videos of themselves on the internet. One thing is, I have never recorded a video of myself EVER. I make recordings in the practice room so I can observe intonation and other things when I listen. Of course, I went through the "look at me, I can play Carnival of Venice" in high school, but when you get into a good university's music program, you learn how stupid that mentality is, and fine tune EVERTYHING at a fundamental level.
Take a look at the sheet music and practice it for a while, you will see that it is much easier than it sounds. It's a flashy piece that's fun, not a show-off mechanism like it has become today.
This is probably not the "Carnival of Venice" you are familiar with, however. Originally, it was just a folk song that evolved by way of Fantasie and VAriations. The most commonly known is the arrangement by Jean-Baptiste Arban (the one you're most-likely familiar with). This is the one by Del Staigers. Go read. Have fun. It's moderately easy, but playing it as fast as Vizzutti...
Oh definitely! Now, it's becoming a little less musical and a little more show-off-y.
Also, I appreciate your understanding and not blowing up at me like most anyone else on this website. Your patience and willingness to learn will bless you.
The trumpet players must have really low self-esteem now.

No, I'm pretty sure they were mainly laughing at him. Use your talents for something useful Vizzutti!

Did anyone else notice that he used not only one hand but his left hand?
milkymike182 2 years ago 89
The left hand is the one that is supposed to hold the weight of the trumpet, while the right hand is supposed to be mainly for fingering the keys.
Nevertheless, impressive :)

That makes it all the more impressive. I don't know if you can play the trumpet, but I know how difficult it is to finger with the left hand. That impresses me even more!

Yes, I've been playing for 10 years.
And yes, it is quite difficult.

You are very right! I was thinking of the Arban one! I have seen the sheet music for the Del Staigers arrangment, and it much harder!
But my point still stands that it is becoming a showoff piece, and that's not something I like.
