Man I wish someone could tell me the lyric at 1:53..."(Lady something something something something) my so called friends, the same ones who said stick it out to the bitter end.
@opti2007 - thanks for the response. I forgot I posed the question but now having listened to it again, asking a friend to listen, and listening to another video I think the lyric is, "Lady I took a powder and so did my so called friends..."
I've seen TOP several times... last time was in Honolulu at a dive club called Gussie Lamours... it was the best I ever heard them. Just after Monster came out
I agree with vlunney. I think too many bands are afraid of having a big horn section. They are afraid of not being able to get a gig for fear of having a shitty club owner say "you guys are to big"
Again, the CD from which this song came from (Monster on a Leash) was released in 1991... thus the 'date' on this is wrong. // I saw them this past week at Scullers (my 3rd time) in Cambridge, MA, and they performed this song... first time I saw/heard them perform this SINCE the 1991 tour, when I saw them in New Orleans. Keep up the great work, T.O.P.!
Songs like this, "And You Know It," This Time It's Real," and so many others are all great examples of really nice TOP tunes that bring out the swing and jazzy side of the band. Best live band in the business, now in their 41st year of continuous touring. Not very many acts can say that!
This is the personification of one tight ass horn section....Thank you T.O.P. for all the years of great music, and hopefully many more years to come!!!
I remember seeing them in Little Five Points in Atlanta back in the early 90s. They tore the house down! It was truly an awesome show. I wish Russ McKinnon was still their drummer. He kicked ass that night around the kit
A lot of the older TOP fans don't like him because he's white and not Mr. Williams. By white I mean, less funky than previous singers. But I mostly blame the material for that. Hearing him do the Back to Oakland era stuff shows he can be one funky mofo. I'm of the opinion that he was one of the best singers they've had and Monster on a Leash is one of their top 4 best albums. Though I'm a bit biased as Monster on a Lease was the first CD I heard all the way through.
I think he says "Lady look took a powder", which means she vanished, like some of his so-called friends.

Despite the fact this song asks the hard question why things went wrong, it still rocks!!!

Are you sure the trumpet player isn't Lee Thornburg? It sure looks like him, to me.

How was this released in 1989? the song "How could this happen to me" was on an album that was released in 1991!

Thank you for posting this. I have played and re-played it 5 times and I don't think I'll get tired of it! They don't make music this good anymore.

it's damned shame bands don't make the effort these days to have a good horn section.

Like any great T.O.P. song, the music stikes a cord that the true T.O.P. fan hears.
