Thanks for posting, Dave. It was interesting to see your insiders' insight and very fun to watch.
I miss this show; I watched it frequently with my sister (in between arguments, of course.) I remember how cool it was to see Adam Sandler show up on SNL a couple of years later. I said "That's Stickpin Quinn!"
RIP Ken Ober. I did not know until earlier tonight that he passed away 2 years ago.
That was really fun to watch Dave. I loved this show when I was a kid, I would have been about 8 when this aired. It was fun watching the videos and reading your commentary :)
Dave, this was absolutely awesome to watch. Makes me want to dig through my pile of VHS tapes, somewhere in that pile I have the last two rounds of one of the earlier Remote Controls - back when the middle contestant went through the blue paper "wall". I remember being a little bit disappointed as a 6 year old kid when I saw the new season of Remote Control and they did away with the blue wall.
I was rooting for you all the way, awesome job - and your comments were really neat to read.
... was a little too old for this "show" so I never watched it back in *the day*.. but who's this Alicia chick? That cute girl was looking damn fine... dances very sexy. Did she ever branch out to a normal TV/movie or *video* career later? BTW those two kids (David and Lyle) are much better impromptu singers than the sunglasses wearing clown w/ the microphone. They should've told him to STFU & GTFO.
Dude that was awesome. I was just reminiscing old favorite shows like "Night Flight" and "Remote Control" just now before I found this and I didn't know that Ken Ober passed away. I am really glad you had a chance to became a part of this. "Remote Control" was a great part of my teenage life. I really miss this show and nothing ever will beat it. Thank you so much for posting.
Thanks for posting this. It's even better with the little comments you made. Bummer about the car, you would have gotten all the ladies in that sweet ride while blasting your sweet new cassette deck.
I am truly saddened by this, as I just found out. I was a contestant on the show that started do quinn's laundry, and I was the one that went off the air in that show. Ken was actually nice to me although was a little pissed that I said Steve was my favorite. awesome time I had. And god bless the mighty game man, Ken Ober. He will always be a winner in our hearts and the best host ever.
yeah. Great vid. This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I even used to rock the black Remote Control Tee. Man I miss that show and I loved the inside notes you put on the video. RIP Ken. You were great.
good post, I was pretty young when that show was on and I remember watching it with my dad who got all the jokes that I was too young to understand (it's amazing how much more intelligent MTV programming was back in the day) Brought back some memories.
How true - RIP Ken. I auditioned for Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy (made it to the 2nd call back) and that show was much more difficult than it appeared on television. I wish they would bring shows like this back! Thanks for sharing your time on RC. It looked like you had a blast.
Wow..what a trip back to my childhood! RIP Ken. And I was hoping for a happy ending...doh!! Anyways, I'm interested to know the taxes you had to pay on the prizes...yipe!
If MTV (tv in general) didn't get so mundane and with programming aimed for morons I wouldn't have thrown out my TV two years ago. This was a fun and simple little show with a good host. You lost your way MTV. RIP Ober
RIP Ken Ober this show was better than any reality crap thats on tv today. Including winning the audio cassette radio prize and the sailboat! The show was tped in NYC very few people sail in Manhattan- still I'd use the Sailboat as an umbrella.
Thanks for making my day, I loved watching every second of this, and loved your commentary. I use to watch this when I was 4 with my dad, GREAT memories, how exciting you were actually on it and did so well! You were really smart, and it seemed pretty close to impossible to win! Great job though:-)
I remember when the players would get pulled back into that room, there would be guys dressed up as monsters back there. I've got about 5 episodes on dvd that show contestants getting pulled back and you'd see those guys dressed up like Halloween charachters back there to scare the losing contestants.
i miss the 80s, they had the best prizes... people won guitars and cameras, with 35mm photography, holy crap!... also christine is hoooooooooooooot, shes probably 50 now
Andy, Andy, Andy...Say goodnight, Gracie. Closing time. One last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer. Closing time. You don't have to go out but you can't star here.
Thank you for sharing. I loved this show when I was little. I used to say that when I turned 18 I would be a contestant...too bad that by then Mtv turned to crap. (I'm 29 btw)
Enjoyed watching this. I was also a contentant on the show back in 1990... switched from the bed to the spinning thing... it wasn't the same. But your commentary was right on, from the big sneakers they made you wear to the stage manager on the floor in front of us. Very funny. One of these days I'll get my VHS tape transferred to digital so I can share my experience with the world, too. Nice job.
thanks for posting this, I was on the first season of RC in 1987. I dug out my VHS and need to get it transferred and posted on here as well. I actually won the final round and got a trip to the Bahamas.

This was a treat to watch, actually! I remember this show vaguely when I was in my infant years but never gave it much thought until this late night to look up Remote Control after playing Classic Concentration on my NES...and I got a majority of the questions right prior to the bonus round...it's awesome that you got to be on this show! Are you around 42, now??? Hope MTV doesn't bust your balls for telling us what went on behind the stage lol...
