  • I live in Gardiner, we're neighbors :) Next week or so were gonna throw in our cold crops. My husband and I love how you did your garden with the mounds of dirt...i think we may try that this year. Thank you for posting these great videos and i'll be sure to keep you updated on how my garden grows..i can't wait to see your progress for 2010.

  • @shaynapalmer26 Oh we are neighbors what a smalll world we live in.

  • So far so good,(besides yesterday when you could see your breath outside) but it's still way to early to tell if Mother Nature will turn on us, us hobby farmers deserve a nice growing season, my chickens rarely laid last year cause it was always so cloudy and yuck out. where abouts are you in ME? I'm about 8 miles south of Disgusta.

  • @shaynapalmer26 Yes has been a bit chilley out and is still to early for some plants for the garden. I live in Farmingdale just south of Augusta, But the garden is in Randolph.

  • omg, your garden is amazing. I saw your comment that you are in Maine, so am I! I just got the landscape fabric, it's our first year. last year we didn't do so great due to the constant rain. happy gardening :)

  • @shaynapalmer26 Thank you. Last year was an awful year for me to. Along with the rain i had a ground hog doing damage to everything. Hope we get the weather we need this year.

  • wow how did u get those pepper plants that size and what variety of them did u use?. when i tried peppers for first time i didnt do that well. but this year i wont try as many peppers but will try and get them to work.

  • I believe they were Ace and Lady bell peppers. This was a very good year for peppers.

  • I was wondering if you start your cabbages in the house and if so when should I start mine this year, I haven't grown any before and I have seen videos of people starting them in the house. I live in Vermont we have to start many things indoors to get a good head start, as it is so cold for so long. Thanks for your help and I love your videos, maybe this summer I will do some of my own.

  • Well this all depends on the variety of cabbage you are starting. Most seed packets will tell you on the back how early you should start them. Some varietys are ready for harvest in 60 days and others as many as 100 days or more. I live in Maine and no whear you are coming from when you want to get the most of your growing season. Thanks for watching. Cant wait to see your garden. Tammie

  • Great garden! I'm just startng mine and you have really motivated me. God bless.

  • im mad MY garden doesnt work (that well)

  • I enjoyed seeing your garden. Very nice. It's easy to see you have worked hard. Your garden is also a testimonial to having a soil test done. My garden is doing fairly well considering all the rain we've had in Kansas lately, too much really. Feast or famine.

  • damn i wish i had such a big yard space to plant. I live in nyc so i have a tiny patch of land in my backyard, so this year I planted some tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.. some of it were planted in pots.

  • I really liked your garden and watched all the videos. I just started on this year and i saw one a reply about using coke on the plants. what was it used for. also i have small white spots on my squash and cucumbers any suggestions? any commetn would be appreciated.

  • I havent used coke as fertilizer. That is what they were suggestion. If you tried it id only try it on 1 plant to see what it does. Sounds like you might have powdery mildew which is common on squash and cukes. Ounce you start to see it it is hard to reverse the affects. But you can try a fugicide on them and see how that works. Are the spots on the fruit of the leaves?

  • So far only on the leaves but i see it is getting worse daily. i hate to use chemicals but i dont want to loose all my hard work either. will it spread to the fruit? My kids love your videos. they have watched them all a couple of times.

  • They do make organic fungicide.

  • Bonide has a a few organic choices a sulfer dust or a liquid copper spray. If you dont do anything it will continue to get worse. Also when do you water your garden this may have something to do with it. A good ruel is to never put your plants to bed at night wet. water in the morning given plenty of time for the plants to dry before night time.

  • ...wow! ... you are a perfect example of an accomplished gardener, and set an example for all of us to follow,,,, thanks again for for sharing your garden.

  • cool

  • Great garden.See(Sylvan's Garden 2007 #2) Giant maigolds very nice.

  • What a lovely garden!

  • thank you

  • What do you do to prepare soil before planting? Any secrets to getting my garden to look as good as yours? First time gardener...please help. Thanks.

  • The soil has been worked for over thirty years I dont ad much but some lime and fertilizer every year. Weeds they take alot of nutrients away from your vegetables. The best thing to do is to contact your states cooperative extension office there you can get a soil test done they will give you a detailed list of what your garden needs for about 20 dollars. Hope this helped if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
