  • What she is saying that "America started here, on Quebec, 400 years ago (2008). This show will only happen once, but I want to remember it all my life. Tonight, I am with family, and I feel good about that."

  • @Globin ....totally agreed!!

  • something i don't get: canadian singers have a really thick accent when speaking french yet when they sing you can't hear it anymore. like seriously, it's weird.

  • Chapeau pour l'orchestre...

  • I know pretty much all of her french songs, yet the majority of the time, I have no idea what i'm saying! i really gotta learn French....

  • MAGNIFIQUE !

  • i love this song ...

  • I wonder what she's saying in the beginning.. Should start learning french :/

  • @00FallingInBetween00 She saids Que vous êtes beaux!

  • @houa69

In English: You are beautiful! The Plains.... it's true, it's magic. I am so very lucky to be here with you tonight. And especially, to have you in my life. I am always very proud and happy.... as I travel... it is certain when we speak, of my home, of Quebec. You know, I dare tell you that this land is immense and a giant. It's the heart of the people ...of its people. Let me tell you tonight that your hearts…. I hear it beating strongly.

Hope you don't mind my help.

  • @Osayannx thank you. =DD

  • @camillablimaa: Your welcome, but I myself made a mistake. It should be just "heart" .......no "s" .

As she's speaking to the crowd on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec, she does mean "all

your hearts", but French does not translate easy. :-)

  • @00FallingInBetween00 In english: That you are beautiful! Plains, it's true, it is magic? I am so fortunate to be here with you this evening. And specially to have you in my life. I am always very proud and happy when I travel, it is sure when we speak to me from here, from my home, of Quebec. You know I have to say to you, what the earth has of immense and of giant it is the heart of hers peoples her people. Let I say myself that this evening your heart I intend it to beat very hardly.

  • @houa69 Thank you :))

  • was this concert free? i just can't believe how many people were there..!

  • @mawuar yes it was, but there was some flaws in the ticket distribution, some that received them reselled them on ebay for like 500$, they had them free... kinda bullshit, but they did something to correct that...

  • mon favorite

  • Wow.. Just wonderful! She's awesome!

  • Sorry, but what year is this? All I know is that it happened pretty recently.

haha, and I too must add that I am learning French because of Céline! She inspired me to do so:) In fact, French is my major!

  • This show happened in 2008 during the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Quebec City.

  • @cdionfnwa Summer 2008

  • @cdionfnwa This is in 2008. Is is avalable on dvd on ebay and her website

  • @cdionfnwa c'etait en Ete 2008 :)

  • @cdionfnwa It was in 2008 for the 400th anniversery of Québec city)

  • @cdionfnwa 2009, it was for the 400th anniversary of Québec (1608-2008)

  • Translation(forgive me if it's not perfect, my first language is french).

"How beautiful you are!!!! The plains, it's true, it is magic! I am so lucky to be here with you tonight and specially to have you in my life!"

  • " I'm always very proud and happy when I travel of course, when one talks to me about here, of my home, of Quebec. You know I must say to you: What the earth has of immense and of giant is the heart of its peoples, of its people. And let me say to you that tonight, your heart, I hear it beat very loud. This is no surprise America saw the light of day here!! All began here, at the exact place we are, 400 years ago!"

  • "So tonight I want us to celebrates together, you and us, on the stage with all the artists that accepted the invitation to do a unique show. This show, we will do it just once, but me, I want to remember it all my life. ..because 400 years, that does not happen everyday. Tonight I am among family, at home! and let me add...I feel good!"

  • @LouiseQc555

  • to sairamnagarajan:

    -we never change

-we just wear costumes of others

    -we never change

-a jacket hides only a small part of us

    -we don't sleep deeply

-we just dream alittle and try to catch this dream

  • Hey could someone please post the translation of what Celine is saying in the first few minutes? I realise it's not exactly the easiest task but I would be so grateful if someone could do it.. thanks!

  • @sairamnagarajan well she's mainly saying she's happy to be in Quebec, her home. Hehe

    Too lazy to translate everything.

  • Yes french-canadian ( Quebec ) and France are different "Speaking" french.. the writing is pretty similar though.. almost the same.

  • I have one question though.Does French have different dialects like English and Spanish. You know,we have American accent and English accent for English.People speak Spanish a little differently in Mexico than they do in Spain.

So I would like to know if the French-speaking people in Canada speak French differently from France.

  • Most definately! The french most people typically learn in school is from France. Try going to Canada and hearing them speak, it's a little different! Not drastically so, but there are differences!

  • Sure we have! Just in France we've got many different accents, and every French-speaking country has his own accents. Concerning Quebecois French, the French generally consider it to be ugly. It sounds "peasant" to their ears. Personally I do like it. I especially enjoy Quebecois expressions, which are very colourful and funny. The Quebecois also use some words we understand but we don't often use: for "a shoe", we say "chaussure", the Quebecois say "soulier", (it sounds oldfashioned to us).

  • French canadian and French from France have different accent and different expressions but it's almost the same. And in France we have also different dialects and different accents (Parisians haven't the same accent than Southern French)

  • Oh,interesting.

So which dialect would be the most articulate?

  • yes really different, like in france there are a north and south accent, south accent is really funny. but there are quebecois, belguim and swiss accent, it's very funny.

  • Cool.

So which accent/dialect would be considered the most articulate or accurate?Like English in England would be considered the most accurate.

  • well quebec french is closely derived classical french.. (there are many accents in quebec as well, people in quebec city speak a lot closer to what is spoken in france.. and the more south you go the more it sounds like a variation of acadian french) But we all learn the same french in schools. Someone from france/quebec could write a paragraph and you could not tell the difference. Its just the accents and expressions. Just learn international french.. Its what we all switch to when traveling!

  • Thanks for the advice!I've learned a lot.

Oh,and I also heard that French is a lot deeper than English (like poetry and literature-wise),is it true?

  • @lamike1982 i happen to be a french speaker as well as greek, and every language has its own nuances, but not one language is "deeper" than a next.

  • comme jadore!!!!

  • Celine has become like a language. Her songs are universally known and must be engrained in the lexicon in Quebec?

  • even in the Philippines, people are learning French because of her.

  • All over the U.S. too! even me!

  • Bravo Celine!

  • Love this song!

  • this lady was born to sing.. ;]

  • yeah, and she was born in Québec. ;-)

We can also be proud of that. We have a lot been considered as "hewers of wood and drawers of water" ("scieurs de bois et porteurs deau"), but I think that we now showed everybody who exactly we are :-)

  • ti amo...e che ci posso fare??!

  • LOVEEEEEEEEE u Celine

  • J'aime cette chanson!!!!!!!!vraiment belle

  • I love you Celine...she is awesome...

  • Love this song soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much xx And Celine too

    ..lol..

  • french id so incredibly romantic. p.s, i didn't even notice that she forgot the lyrics.

  • omg i agree and i dont understand any of it

  • I dont understand!!!! her words!! but she explain so much fells!!! I LOVER THIS SONG

  • c'est ma préférée de Céline ! Aaaahhh !

  • Instead of singing "en oubliant le froid" she sang by mistake "et se mocker de moi" the first time and had to repeat "et se mocker de moi" one more time! I love her but I can't believe she forgot the lyrics :(

  • she always forgets the lyrics, that's whats so great, she's human!

  • she actually did not forget the lyrics here.... it is actually "et se moquer de moi" in the last verse. but, many artits miss a word or phrase here and there, it's perfectly normal, have you ever had to memorise something or performed on stage? what you see as a perfect show is infact just the performer's expertise in sailing very smoothly through small errors.

  • "what you see as a perfect show is infact just the performer's expertise in sailing very smoothly through small errors. " - I liked that!

  • Loooooove her

  • I love her so much...there is no one like her and there never will be. I have goosebumps all over watching this. I love her so, so much. Merci infiniment. Je t'aime.

  • i fell in love with this songgg!

french is so romatntic, i cant wait till i can speak fluently!!!!!!

  • J'aime bien cette chanson..!!

  • That song is absolutely AWESOME, I love it, adore it and can't live without it.

  • I used to like it, then I became addicted to it... there is an emotion in it that I had not perceived b4. I think you understand.

  • Well I guess it nostalgia, and pride maybe. Of her roots... her "people". As in she may now live in a Jetplane, but she remembered it all @ that moment. It was perhaps the most "real" performance I have ever witnessed. Dude that night in Québec was "une merveille"

  • love u celine
