I know Tibet has been its own state and taken over in the Qing dynasty so I'd support it breaking free from the PRC but it would be foolish to do so. If Mao hadn't joined the country together in the civil war, i'm afraid Tibet would have been far worse off - compare it to India in its 1940's.

Haven't seen any mention of how ethnic Tibetans don't pay as much tax as the Han or how they can have more children than the Han without penalty. No mention of how the Lama's ruled Tibet far more brutally than the PRC as God-Kings. The Kingdom of Hmong People(known as MiaoZu in China) has also been conquered by Chinese. No matter what we will never claim ourselves as Chinese coz of what they did to us just like the Tibetan people. Guizhou Province and parts of Yunnan Province used to be our country and other ethnic Countries before it was named Guizhou & Yunnan. China is going through rapid industrialization and is a meritocracy, wherever there is a meritocracy there is a class system wherein people are divided into different social classes based on their economic position. The people in support of China seem to overlook the fact that the Chinese 'liberators' torture nuns and monks, and anyone who even shows signs of wanting independence for his or her country of Tibet is thrown in prison. Of course I also feel sorry for the Chinese, because of the existence of Karma, it is kind of horrible to even just for a moment think of what will happen to them in the next life.

And I highly doubt that Tibet can free itself, there's too much going against them domestically. @obsidianstatue I stand by the fact that the Chinese are hurting Tibetan culture. Crime, prostitution, and gambling are all on the rise. A lot of this has to do with the massive influx of Chinese immigrants coming via the new railway which opened in 2006. Chinese are buying out and tearing down Tibetan architecture to build shops and restaurants and now own a majority share of both. The Tibetans simply lack the business expertise to compete, they've lost control of their economy and identity.
@galept also, the government HAS made great efforts to preserve much of tibetan culture. as obsidianstatue said, tibetan are not part of the one-child policy, tibetan is compulsary in tibetan schools, also, 94% of tibetans speak tibetan. yet, native american culture was very much erased by the US government during the 1800's and most of it is gone compared to 200 years ago. from what i know, native american children were forced to go to english schools and stop speaking their language.
Actually no, they haven't made great efforts to preserve Tibetan culture. The region has not recovered from the thousands of monasteries that were destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. To bring Tibet "up to speed" they're moving to contemporary housing. These people, along with those of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang are considered second-rate citizens and are being treated as such. One of the best accounts was from my professor at Tsinghua University, who is a muslim from Inner Mongolia

Haven't seen any mention of how ethnic Tibetans don't pay as much tax as the Han or how they can have more children than the Han without penalty. No mention of how the Lama's ruled Tibet far more brutally than the PRC as God-Kings. And I learned the history from local tibetan. The whole slavery and social classes system are invovled with their belief and religion. This (Communism) has never been achieved throughout history; not in China nor in the USSR or in any other eastern bloc countries, they were all simply Totalitarian regimes (although China has opened up). China is going through rapid industrialization and is a meritocracy, wherever there is a meritocracy there is a class system wherein people are divided into different social classes based on their economic position. Communism is a bit comparable with Anarchism if you're wondering and it's hard to describe what China is living under.

Thank you for posting this! The people in support of China seem to overlook the fact that the Chinese 'liberators' torture nuns and monks, and anyone who even shows signs of wanting independence for his or her country of Tibet is thrown in prison. Of course I also feel sorry for the Chinese, because of the existence of Karma, it is kind of horrible to even just for a moment think of what will happen to them in the next life.

(continued) we as americans cannot liberate the tibetans, or bring democracy to the mid-east for that matter, because our "enlightened way of life" is so radically different than the natives teachings / culture that it will be rejected and expunged like a virus in a body. if the U.S. liberates tibet or aides in its liberation it will be with som many strings attached that we would have caused more damage than good. If tibet wants freedom TIBET MUST FREE ITSELF.

And I highly doubt that Tibet can free itself, there's too much going against them domestically. Just read an article talking about how British intelligence confirmed that Chinese were sent to pose as militant monks to give the government a reason to crack down on Lhasa a couple years back when those "riots" started.

Galept, public activism, which i assume is the purpose of your video, when centered in an internationally dominant nation only goes so far. humanity is flawed. a people who believe they have the moral high ground go to"save/ liberate/ relieve" some lesser victm from what we view as opression are never successful. Look at the Raj, or the colinization of africa and asia. The european christians saw it as enlightening the world and instead ended up swapping one opressor or another.

I will agree with you that up until 1949 tibet was a free and independent state with its own language and culture and the PRC is an occupying force in the region. However, the chinese occupation has been ligitimized by the united nations as well as NATO it is no longer in dispute on an international level. brutal conquests such as this one have been a repeating instance throughout all of human history, hell the US is trying to eradicate islam as a culture, why not get used to it- People are evil

They found slave towns in rural China in the 1980's. They throw anyone that stands up to the government in jail and their activity online is tracked. If China can't protect their own people from being exploited, why should I believe that they can protect the Tibetans? It is YOUR logic that is flawed.

The new railway into Tibet could have been the worst possible thing to happen to them. Also you said that Tibet was part of China longer than the United States has been in existence, I was merely pointing out that since the United States has existed, Tibet has only recently come under Chinese rule (1950's).

@obsidianstatue I stand by the fact that the Chinese are hurting Tibetan culture. Crime, prostitution, and gambling are all on the rise. A lot of this has to do with the massive influx of Chinese immigrants coming via the new railway which opened in 2006. Chinese are buying out and tearing down Tibetan architecture to build shops and restaurants and now own a majority share of both. The Tibetans simply lack the business expertise to compete, they've lost control of their economy and identity.

@galept also, the government HAS made great efforts to preserve much of tibetan culture. as obsidianstatue said, tibetan are not part of the one-child policy, tibetan is compulsary in tibetan schools, also, 94% of tibetans speak tibetan. yet, native american culture was very much erased by the US government during the 1800's and most of it is gone compared to 200 years ago. from what i know, native american children were forced to go to english schools and stop speaking their language.

Actually no, they haven't made great efforts to preserve Tibetan culture. The region has not recovered from the thousands of monasteries that were destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. To bring Tibet "up to speed" they're moving to contemporary housing. These people, along with those of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang are considered second-rate citizens and are being treated as such. One of the best accounts was from my professor at Tsinghua University, who is a muslim from Inner Mongolia

@galept tibetans average 3.8 children per family, and their children have to learn tibetan in schools because its compalsary, and when they reach 18 they are free to be a monk(this is reflected in every 35 tibetan there are 1 monk much higher than the relation of ministers and priests to parishioners in any Christian country in the world, where the ratio is often 1 to 1,000.) there u go ive just shown that han Chinese are not destroying tibetans ethnically/religiously so SHUT THE FUCK UP
